SONFLOWER: A Story of Love, Loss, & Lyme

Rate this book
Sonflower is a true story that came to life as a result of death. This creative nonfiction narrative chronicles the journey of a young man’s post-collegiate athletic and academic career, who while in this particular adulthood transition pocket, adventurously seeks awakening and intention to a meaningful life purpose and direction. Innocently, and then very disruptively, his life intersects with infectious disease. Gradually, until suddenly and dramatically, he downward spirals into a life and persona both foreign and frightening to himself and his family. The ensuing days, weeks and months reveal increasing physical and mental health breakdown. Dramatic changes turn into difficult challenges in search of answers, proper care, and protective measures. The named nemesis of her son’s demise is finally discovered and confirmed only to enter the family into a long standing, historically contradicting medical and societal response to infectious disease diagnosis and treatment. Denial, denigration, and dismissal dogged the perseverance trail. Bacterial penetration, prescribed drug side effects, and faith forlorn twisted and turned the turbulent tide of this tick borne tale from rising hope to tragedy’s fall.
