How to make things awkward with your boss: accidentally send him a steamy text meant for someone else.
And that’s just the beginning. There’s also a business trip that leaves us stranded together in a small town, a bed and breakfast with only one available room, and we have to share a bed.
Daniel Sawyer is too serious, grumpy, and the one man I can’t ever fall for. But then I do fall for him. He makes it hard not to. Beneath the hard exterior, he has a kind heart and makes me feel wanted for the first time in my life.
I’m in so much trouble.
This is Book 2 in the Blue Harbor series. No angst. Just fluff, heat, and lighthearted romance.
As an avid reader and coffee addict, Jaclyn Osborn can always be found with either a book in her hand or one being written on her laptop. The men in her stories mean the world to her, and she's thankful for each day she's able to do this as a career. She writes M/M romance across all genres and worlds, including contemporary, historical, fantasy, and paranormal.
I love this author’s adorable characters and fun banter. I smile so much when reading her books. I want to devour them all when I need a mood boost. I got that with this book, but then it kind of fell flat near the end. One of the MCs changed too much for my liking and everything just kind of rang false after that. I just loved the first book in the series so I definitely went in with high expectations.
• Bad at Business: VP man decides to stay out late hooking up the night before a major important meeting with his CEO. ?? This is after hearing all about how his job is his life yadda yadda. Inconsistent and also annoying.
• Lots of secondary characters idgaf about, presumably from the first book. Entirely pointless scenes - one point, the MC goes to watch football with these people and falls asleep. Yes, I gained so much from this scene.
• Similarly, lots of random useless detail. Like the exact color and brand shirt a secondary character is wearing. I do not care.
• Reed was incredibly gross at the CEO woman they were visiting to pitch an ad campaign to. Calling her "blonde hussy" because he thinks she's looking at whatshisface a certain way? Mad that she didn't immediately sign on for their campaign because she has a meeting with another company the next day?? Do you know anything??? Stop demonizing the woman because she's beautiful and good at business, unlike yourselves.
And I'll say it again. Hensley Manor is freaking magical. Reed was adorable, all of him. I loved his vulnerability, his sassy attitude, the fact that he just jumped into it without hesitation. He was also strong enough to not run when it got hard. Daniel was sweet in his grumpy way. I seriously appreciate that he never saw or treated Reed like it was casual. You could see it from the start, that scene at the manor when Reed plays with his hair.
The one thing that knocked one star down, this actually had *gasp* could it be ? A little too much sex for me. I loved seeing them just hang out together, I wanted more of that, and less of the other. Still, great book, great characters.
I'm definitely bumping down this rating to 2.5 - 2.75⭐ and I'll leave it there only for Monty and Quinn who are also making an appearance here (and have saved this book) and I loved that they've gone to Mykonos and are living their best lives.
But as far as this story goes, it did not impress. I don't know what the hell was I thinking when I read it about 2 years ago, I must've been drunk or something, because now it really sucked.
🟣 Boss/PA 🔵 Size difference 🟠 Age gap - 8 years 28/36 🟢 One MMC is somewhat effeminate 🟡 Strong BE - nothing wrong there but doesn't suit the setting, it's in America while the dialogues are very British 🌶️ A lot of sex, but the main love couple didn't convince me; t/b
This time around I have to say the story was quite boring, Reed and Daniel didn't have that same zing that Monty and Quinn had- and still have it in this book - they're an insta couple who fall for each other and profess their undying unconditional love in a matter of 3 weeks after hooking up.
Reed is crying all the time, coffee gets mentioned way too often (as in the first book) and Daniel just wasn't a hot, sexy boss who's off limits and now Reed gets a shot, finally. No, Daniel was a very bland character, come to think of it.
“Do you play piano?” I asked as he moved it inside me. “Because you’re hitting all my right chords.”
“You played the tuba? Really?” “I’m good at blowing horns, what can I say?”
I'd rather read about Monty and Quinn in Greece, thank you.
Yes, that's right, more of Monty and Quinn would be fantastic. Even if they were just going to the toilet, their dialogues would be more interesting than this book.
_______________________________________ Original review -- 25/July/2022
I'm giving this book 4⭐, although I totally loved the story, loved it! What bothered me was that it was written in total british english and I couldn't help myself but to narrate the book in Julie Andrew's voice in my head!
Reed worked as a PA to Daniel, who was a CEO in an advertising company in town. Daniel is bisexual and Reed is gay, but they're both convinced the other is straight so when Reed accidentally sends Daniel a text that was supposed to go to one of his hook-ups and then both get stranded in an Inn on a business trip, they hook up and start secretly dating.
I liked how Reed was out there, he just expressed himself fully, he loved romance books and cried when he was watching Hallmark movies. Reed was an emotional guy who wanted his perfect boyfriend and Daniel was definitely the perfect man for the job.
There was no drama or third act breakup, they quickly decided they couldn't be apart and tried to make it work.
This book was seriously amazing! I loved every second of it. I highly recommend! These boys are just so sweet and Reed has to be my favorite sassy bitch! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I didn't like this one as much as the first book of the series. Daniel and Reed have enough of a spark to be sweet but their conflict annoyed me. The first thing either of them should have done was check company policy.
And the way they both acted like if one quit they couldn't be together. The JOB was the issue, not them with intimacy or thinking the other didn't love them. It was silly and went on for too long. I was happy that Quinn and Monty had some funny scenes in this book. They are the superior couple.
It was wonderful returning to Blue Harbor again and seeing Monty, Quinn, and Reed :) Dating the Boss follows the events of Topping the Jock (Monty and Quinn's story) with Reed's story. He is the personal assistant of hottie McHottie Daniel and has a serious crush on him. Reed has always had one-night hookups and flings and doesn't really want a relationship after his last one burned him. When Reed and Daniel are headed out for a business meeting, they get stranded in a blizzard and stumble upon....Hensley Manor! If anyone has read Jaclyn's other books, then you'll know who this lovely Victorian Manor belongs to and see some familiar faces :) Absolutely loved re-visiting the Manor again and this is where Reed and Daniel only have one room and two beds to sleep in. They start a relationship but have to keep it a secret because Daniel is Reed's boss and neither wants to get in trouble with corporate policy.
I adored how sweet Daniel and Reed were together and how Daniel didn't care if Reed's style was gender fluid. I also loved how Daniel didn't want Reed to sacrifice the relationship at the cost of his promotion. It was great seeing Monty and Quinn again and especially when Daniel met them :) I was so happy that Reed finally got his magic prince on horseback and going back to Blue Harbor. Can't wait to read the next book! The Queen of Steam and Angst has a new title to her name and it's now The Queen of Steam, Angst, and Fluff :) All the fluff!
daniel annoys me too much. he feels one dimensional or whatever. he is like there just to be reed's partner or for reed to have a hea. its so forced. i didnt feel the chemistry. the sex was even bland. god i hate reading exclusive top/bottom dynamics with stereotypes. this one delivered just that. its just sex but anw thats my problem with queer books not just this one as i keep saying in the past. daniel i dont understand he doesnt even have a hobby hes so boring. he bores me. a waste of time. a shame cause the first book was cute despite the toxic and rough start.
Reed and Daniel both pined for one another but neither knew it. They get stranded on a work trip and the tension and attraction is too much for them to fight it. It was supposed to be a one off but they kept gravitating to one another.
This is a sweet and sexy office romance. I loved both characters and wanted only good things for them.
2.5 stars. About as inventive as the title, which is to say, not at all. However, there were a few genuinely affecting moments. Enjoyed it more than the first book in the series.
It was a cute little read. I definitely wanted to know what was going on between Reed and his boss Daniel. When I was reading Quinn and Monty book.
Glad I gotten around to reading there story. I can say I definitely enjoyed it and was glad that nobody gotten fired from their job just by wanting to be together.
One of my pet peeves is when the MC is having sex with other people at present time. Just like this book, the 2 MCs are having sex with other people. Daniel is bisexual, having sex with a guy with no details given. Meanwhile, Reed is having sex with full displays. Big No!
After that one hook-up, Reed is still communicating with the guy, sexting to be precise, eww! Unfortunately for him, he sent wrong sexting to his boss, Daniel.

Reed got his own story yay! I liked how supportive he was of Quinn in the previous book (Topping the Jock), and now we get to really delve into who he is. I didn't like Daniel, the boss, at first - so cold! - but when it switches to his perspective we understand why he acts like that. Their connection is sizzling, and the way Daniel sees Reed, how he appreciates his beauty and varying gender expression, his soft side, is nice. Another reviewer actually said they thought there was too much sex in it, and I could see what they meant but too much is never an issue for me, lol, though I didn't really care for how they referred to it in terms that were much more crass than the tender feelings they had for each other. I guess people do talk like that all the time, but it was a little off-putting when I'm reading a romance. Just me, probably.
I love how sweet Daniel is to Reed when they start really dating, like how he treats him for his birthday - oh and we get to see Quinn and Monty again and they are hilarious and cute still!
This is such a wonderful low angst series that Jaclyn has created for us.
We met Reed in Topping the Jock. He was Quinn’s best friend. Reed is so sweet, funny, an awesome best friend but he is craving a loving relationship. He needs love, affection, someone that won’t leave. He deserves all of this and more.
Daniel is Reeds boss. He is very serious and finds it hard to trust due to his past.
These two have a secret crush on each other but aware the lines that shouldn’t be crossed due to boss/employee dynamic. Once they let their guard down and give into their desires, bamn they heat up the sheets. Lol
I loved catching up with everyone from book one, meeting Daniel’s awesome family, the love these guys shared and the extent they would go to to be able to stay together ....
Oh and let’s just say there is a little surprise thrown. I am not ruining any thing for anyone. But I screamed for joy.
I was so happy to find Reed getting his own HEA. He was a favorite character from Quinn and Monty's story. The sassy attitude and being true to himself make him the most awesome, adorable, funny and unfiltered speaking person ever. Daniel is the complete opposite with his uptight and super strict policies. Luckily the blizzard and a beautiful B&B help Reed show him how to relax, have fun and know it is okay to speak nicely to others . Boy, does he start talking and having sexy fun with Reed! They wind up being just what the other needs after having so many painful moments during their lives romantically and with family. I enjoyed reading this book and can relate well with Reed and his hundreds of romantic Kindle books as well as watching holiday movies.
Daniel and Reed work together for almost a year, both find each other attractive but say nothing since boss/employee romance doesn't stand a chance. They don't really know each other outside of work and only see the exterior till they are forced to spend couple of days together snowed in. Forced proximity works great to bring them closer, open up and risk starting a relationships. Both have scars from past relationship failures and it takes time for trust and love to win over doubts and career considerations. HEA affirmed by fitting epilogue. Great choice if you are looking for sweet low angst heart-warming story
i didn't see that coming hahahahaha we first met reed on Topping the Jock and i didn't even think that he has that really funny and goofy personality lol this one was really sweet, and heartwarming but also feel steamy and hot on some part. i love when the characters didn't waste their time doubting their choice with some really dumb and unnecessary scene, so when reed just went straight saying that he can't pretend something never happened with them i really appreciate that.
This was a sweet story. I liked Reed in Topping the Jock and was glad that he got his HEA. As Daniel said toward the end of the book, they complete each other. A cheesy sentiment according to Reed, but it fits well with Reed’s love of romance novels and Hallmark movies. Monty and Quinn make several appearances in the book and it was nice to see how their relationship has progressed. It’s unclear if there are additional stories planned for this series, but hopefully so.
This standout book was a very pleasant surprise and a great way to start the new year! This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed her writing style. The dialogue was crisp and intelligent, full of interesting lines that kept me reading. After a holiday season full of reading novellas, it was very pleasant to read a longer, full story with colorful characters that showed substantial growth. Reed stood out as a very unique, vulnerable yet strong and emotional man. I plan to go back and read the first book in the series to see more of him!
Loved this so much!! This was so good! It far surpassed my expectations and has definitely become a favorite for me. I was hooked from the start and could not put it down. It kept my attention the entire time and made me smile, laugh, and just feel.😄
I LOVED the writing, the story, the pacing, the setup, the dual POVs, the dialogue and banter, the humor🤣, the chemistry, the steam, the emotion/depth, the lightness, the forced proximity and shared bed due to a snow storm😏 (yes, please!), the pop culture references/jokes, the different settings, everything. I ate it up. I also, of course, loved Reed and Daniel (the MMCs). They were such great, interesting, fleshed-out, and lovable characters.🥰 They had distinct personalities and POVs and fit well together. I connected with them both and loved their relationship and character development. They had so much chemistry. I loved their conversations and scenes together. And the build up between them was fantastic and gave way to a beautiful and fun relationship.
I also loved the side characters. They added depth and something special to the story. Quinn and Monty were hilarious, kept things interesting, and were so well written. I loved that they were included so much it this. And I loved their friendship with Reed. It definitely made me curious about their book, which I’m kind of still on the fence about because of the bullying aspect, but I may check it out, since I know how things turn out for them. And Cole and Ian were also great. I loved them and their bed and breakfast and will definitely be checking out their book, because I need to know the story there. Jennifer and Daniel’s family were also great and fun side characters.
Idk how to explain it correctly, but one of the things I really appreciated and loved about this was the diverse gender, relationship, and sexuality rep it had. Some characters were gay. Some were bi. Some were poly (well one was). Some were monogamous. Some were male (ok most were). And some were female (and yay! A MM book that actually had likable female side characters and where the females weren’t written or described in a negative way or treated like sh*t!🥳). And some (well just Reed) embraced both their masculinity and femininity and had fun with it🙌🏻. And none of these things were a big deal to anyone, as it should be IRL. It was refreshing. There was so much love, support, and acceptance in this, and I loved how woven into the story it was. And the story itself felt so unique, thought-out, and complete. It was so well done and refreshing. And I loved the ending. It came full circle back to where it all began, tied things up nicely, and gave hope for the future.🥰
I honestly loved everything about this book!❤️ It was such a pleasant surprise and got me out of a reading slump. I had never read anything by this author before, so I will definitely be checking out her backlist.😊
PERFECT MIX!🤩🔥
2.5 stars. I probably had too high hopes for this. It was sweet (though not entirely angst free despite the claims) but I didn’t really connect with the couple. It escalated too fast. I was also thrown by Reed’s drunken confessions that were a bit too awkward for my taste. And I didn’t like that they both slept with other people in the book, before they started seeing each other. Especially not the detail we got there.
One moment that I really liked though was when Reed was reading gay romance books and Daniel read over his shoulder and was caught up in the story. I could definitely relate to Reed’s passion for books.
I had the sudden urge to read a book about boss/employee relationships and this fit the bill. Plus that cover is gorgeous!
This was a sweet & low angst story that I finished in a few hours because I couldn't put it down. I adored Reed’s personality and how sweet Daniel was under that strict ‘boss’ veneer.
This can be read as a standalone even if it's book 2 in the series. I enjoyed this so much, now I’m gonna read book 1 next because I'm curious about Quinn & Monty’s story and Hensley Manor for Cole & Ian’s. Once again, Jaclyn Osborn pulls me into her world with small town romance and her lovely characters.
