The latest installment of the Badass Brats series, The Dom with the Perfect Brats, by Sorcha Black, Leia Shaw and Cari Silverwood is my favorite so far. The reason is simple: I've fallen head over heels for the Dom - a very strong, sexy, tattooed, Godfrey Cross. The story is told by switching between the three main characters point of view, and as a result we get to see behind the curtain that many Doms live behind in terms of keeping their insecurities and fears so deeply buried that we don't get to see what makes them who they are and where their motivations come from. Certainly not in the way that readers are always immersed in how a sub thinks and how their home life and time in which they live has contributed to making them who they are.
I must add that I live a kinky lifestyle when I can and have met a variety of Doms and subs and everything in between and so I can honestly say that I am not a fan of the brat and bratty behavior. Having said that, the "perfect" brats in this book are, for the most part, not the type of brats that make me want to switch positions with the Dom, get out the flogger and teach them a lesson or two about the importance of respecting their Dom.
In my opinion, there are moments where the brats, Gemma and Izzy, ride the fine line between being funny, sarcastic and mouthy and being disrespectful to Cross. The fact that I responded by wanting to get out that flogger tells me that I was drawn into the story enough for it to have elicited strong feelings. When I read a book that can make it past my critical, internal editor, I let other readers know about it.
In addition to well developed characters and writing style, this book is the third in the series which continues to be written by three women. As in the other two books, each character is written by either Shaw, Black and Silverwood and I could not tell the difference between the three characters in terms of having a consistent writing style. I would not have known it was written by three different authors if I had not been told prior to reading this or the other two installments.
Lastly, I strongly recommend that readers start with the first book, The Dom with a Safeword. There are characters that appear in the earlier books that are in Perfect Brats and I don't believe the reader will get the importance and significance of our first "trio" if the books are not read in order.
Side note: I wanted to give it 4 1/2 starts but don't know if you can on Goodreads and if you happen to know, please feel free to tell me so I can properly rate the book.
