Indigo, Violet and Blue - three best friends who are about to drive around a bend in the road and have their lives change forever.
Indigo's feet are restless. Her chart isn't showing any surprises this week, but that doesn't always keep her Sagittarius soul at home, and neither does a little cold April rain.
Drew isn't sure he's eaten in the last three days, but he knows the sudden tug inside of him isn't hunger. Not the kind that food will fill, anyhow.
Two wandering hearts whose paths are about to cross - and if that doesn't get them headed in the right direction, there are two best friends and a matchmaking ghost waiting in the wings.
I definitely recommend this story, very representative of Audrey Faye's writing with interesting characters and a focus on friendship and family. A good starting point if you've never read an Audrey Faye story.
The characters and their relationships grabbed me from the first page.
Lifelong friends whose childhood dream is suddenly possible. The fulfillment of that vision starts them all down new paths, in a new town.
The three main characters and close friends are Indigo, astrologer and analyzer, Blue, builder and all round handy person, and Violet, psychic and visionary.
This is Indigo's book, and since you can't have a tale involving just one of the group, her friends as well.
Drew is the male lead. He and Indigo are well matched. They spend time getting to know each other and also try to use their unusual methods to see who the other truly is.
The tribe also expands to include Drew's unusual family and new friends from town.
I really liked this author's Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifters series, so when I saw this was a new series I was excited to read it. I found this one to be odd, weird, hard to follow, it was almost like every few pages a page was missing and the word that came to mind all the time was ethereal, not really sure why. After about 5 chapters I gave up, things were too disjointed for me, this one wasn't for me.
The story was well written and the characters were clearly developed. But this book was a little more "new age" than I usually read. I'm curious about the other two main characters of this series, so I will likely read them too.
I struggled to review. On the one hand I loved the cover, the writing, the storyline and the interaction of all the characters. The astrology part however both fascinated and slowed the action so I am not sure it is for everyone. In saying that, I loved Indigo and Drew together, a slow unfolding of emotions and I loved the way art was used to communicate so much emotion.
Blah, and I really wasn't interested in an epic on astrology and that everything anyone does is based on their birthday. The romance was bland to none existent. Was really surprised when I turned the last page and realized it was over. KU book
Difficult to rate. I liked the writing in general and was intrigued by the town, it's people and the hints of paranormal/mysticism. I also liked Drew with his artistry and Mabel was a great character, but I was far more interested in Indigo's friends than her. I thought her a bit wishy-washy and I was bored by the emphasis on astrology. I have no interest in or patience for that, unfortunately. The story itself was a sweet slice-of-life start but it didn't go anywhere. So a matter of taste and being in the right mood, I guess. Maybe the next books will expand more on the parts and characters that interested me?
Indigo Indigo is an astrologer with a wondering soul. Her latest trip leads her to a small costal town by the name of Perception Bay. And a turn around the corner brings her face to face with a store. A store that she has seen many times in the art of one of her best friends. A place they have been looking for decades. When Blue and Violet arrive they have to decide if they are ready to make their dream a reality. Violet already feels at home. Empathic and a little telepathic, Perception Bay is a balm to her soul. Blue is having a harder time. A finish carpenter and a good general contractor. She is unsure if there is a place for her in the small town. Indigo, can work from anywhere. Drew is an artist, who travels with his adopted mother Mabel, never staying in one place to long. When he catches sight of three women looking at the store across the street from his rental, he is drawn to one in particular. Mabel is convinced he has found he has found his one. Indigo is drawn to Drew. She is having trouble connecting. He sees her so clearly, she is struggling to see him he same way and she really wants to. Indigo connects through her start charts. Drew having grown up in foster care, doesn't know his true birthday day, much less the time he was born. A trip to an out of town art show, gives Indigo a new way to see Drew. A sweet romance. Liked the fact that the main characters are all in their 40s. The paranormal setting. Loved Mabel. Great secondary characters. Great series start.
Indigo by Audrey Faye is light, joyous, and has the most delicate touch as it guides you into a new series, with new characters that promise to be as deep and rich as all those that Audrey writes.
Based in modern day Earth, and centred around a trio of mature lifelong friends, the tale offers up delight filled insight into the world of astrology, ghosts, empathic abilities and artistic expression.
I became lost in this marvellous story, and returned to find myself grinning and laughing with delight. The character interaction, sassy conversations, sparkling gems of insight, and pure joy found within the pages are truly delightful.
No lover of paint smeared hands, pebbles on a cold empty beach, or hot spicy soup should walk past this wonderful entry into a book series that promises to open the eyes and the hearts of its lucky readers.
Read this book. Do yourself the favour, and let this bright spark of happiness into your life.
This book gave me more of what makes Audrey Faye one of my favorite authors. She writes people so well. Her characters seem to literally come to life and are the kind of people you want to hang out with. By the end of the book, I wanted to be part of Violet's movie night, hire Blue to work on my house, and have Indigo read my chart! We get a good dose of all three friends here, but the story centers on Indigo, who's passion is astrology. She relates to people and situations by knowing their sun and moon signs and is good enough to make a living at it. Then she meets the one person she literally can't read. I won't go into more detail so I don't spoil the story. I like the supporting cast and the quotes by the trio's younger selves at the beginning of each chapter. This is just a wonderfully done, feel-good story of three close friends. I'm so looking forward to reading the next installment.
While I do enjoy the author's slice-of-life style books, this one didn't really engage me that well. I wasn't a fan of how horoscope-heavy the character development was, and there wasn't really a satisfying resolution by the end. Indigo and Drew were already getting along pretty well when the book starts after the three friends move in Perception Bay, and by the end, they're still getting along well. There were never really any big issues they had to figure out, other than Drew's mystery birthday, which we by the end of the book.
I think I'm going to skip the rest of this series and stick to waiting for more Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifter books.
This was a nice, cozy read. It was light and comfortable like a warm fuzzy blanket of a book.
I loved getting to know all the wonderful characters in this book and I am excited to see more in future books. I really loved how unique each character was and how they were able to be completely themselves without there being anything wrong with that. Like there was complete acceptance all around for the uniqueness of each individual in every situation in the book.
I would recommend this to anyone who would enjoy a nice comfortable read and who loves a character driven story.
This is a delightful book and a gentle romance. It’s a relief from angsty, urgent, suspenseful plots that tear up your soul. Those have their place. But this is a lovely story of friendship, stretching out, and going out of comfort zones into tentative love. I was especially grateful for it since the world is all afire and I needed something more tranquil but no less deep and beautiful.
Looking forward to the expansion of this series. There are a lot of great characters (and homemade cider with spicy Thai noodles) to explore!
I love the fact that it's 3 friends who ride or die together. They are very different from each other! The circumstances of them finding shenanigans were very cool. It was definitely meant to be. And the handsome artist living next door was a huge bonus. I do believe Indigo lives by her astrology too much. I can't imagine having to look at a chart every day to figure out your life by. It seems to controlling. To much like a perfectionist. She needs to let go and get to know him the way the rest of the world operates.
I am a big fan of Audrey Faye's Ghost Mountain series. I understand her need to take a break and write elsewhere for a time. This series is entirely different but much the same. The setting and the people are far from Ghost Mountain but the sense of home and belonging and healing are there, which is what this author excels at. Even though I don't do art and I don't do astrology, I still fell into this story and can't wait for it to continue. We all need some healing now
Audrey Faye writes real stories, with real locations and real people and it just flows, her writing just flows so very well. I loved this story of Indigo, Drew, Mabel, Blue and Violet. Enjoyed the town characters. Her writing is like chicken soup...good for the soul. Seriously, if you aren’t following Audrey Faye, you should be. Try her GhostMountain Series...excellent writer.
I really like this author I just didn’t love this book. I am not an astrology fan. It’s beautifully written just boring. I wish I could marry this author to another author with the opposite problem and produce a six star book. I will give the next book a try, it’s included with my unlimited subscription anyway and I like how her books make me feel. If you liked this even a little try her shifter series.
This was different??!!! I was not sure how to navigate all the astrology stuff but the story was pretty engaging, the idea of the town intriguing and the protagonists interesting enough for a closer look. It was hard to decide if I liked it as much as I could because of all the confusing, almost non-existent back stories that are still hanging in the air. I suppose I just have to read the next book in the series to decide.
This was my first book from this writer so I didn't know what to expect. It was slightly odd story with one ghost, an artist, three friends in small town in which everyone is in eachothers business.
Let's not forget the scoop of a vanilla love story.
Overall it was ok book to spend the afternoon with, but it was missing something for me. Some mistry or dipper dive into love story??
I was interested in the overall book and the secondary characters more than Indigo. I think the extensive references to astrology just didn't sit well with me. Not something I really enjoy or understand and parts of this were like a Master class. I didn't feel the connection between Indigo and Drew too much. I'm interested in hearing more about Blue and Violet, so I'll probably continue the series.
I will read anything Audrey writes. Most likely I will read it multiple times and cry waiting for the next. This one is just like that. She sees people and she writes about people who see each other—and in a world where we fail at that so often, it is a balm to my soul.
I loved this story ! Slightly difficult to get into at first but keep going . A delightful story of timeless friendship , new beginnings and loves. Following the story of 3 best friends this takes you on a journey of gentle characters, cosmic events and all round loveliness. Looking forward to reading Blue's story next
I enjoyed having a new Audrey Faye book to read. The characters are engaging and have that knack of building a family that Audrey writes so well.
This trilogy isn’t as deep and thorough as the ghost mountain series, but I think that was the point for the author, to change gears for a bit to navigate the minefield that has been 2020.
Cute. Very slow, clean romance. Very nice, tight friendship between the three sisters.
Didn't like as much as the Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifters Series, but still cute. Just slower. Also, that page number can't be right, seems a lot longer.
I have always been fascinated with astrology, so this really called out to me. Audrey Faye has done it again - written just the book I needed to bring comfort, smiles (and a few happy tears) when we all need them. Purple was already my favorite color — now I love it even more, and I cannot wait to read the stories for Violet and Blue.
I have read all that Audrey Faye has written. She wrote a series about Modern Witches as Deborah Geary. I have all of those except the last one. She took them out of print but I really wish she would release them again. I get attached to the characters in each book.
Audrey has always had a way of seeing to the deepest parts of the human soul, and showing what it means to know yourself. Or have/find people who can show you the way. This story of friendship, finding oneself, and love is leveling up with a warm cup of tea, a nice thick comfy blanket and a getting a hug to your soul. Thank you Audrey.
I didn't seek out this book, it jumped out at me! I normally read paranormal/sci first books but I'm so glad that I picked this one out and it was a great read. I am reading the next one in the series and I hope it's as good of a read! Thanks for a cozy journey !
But I'm not sure why. I even suggested it to my daughter. I think its main draw, after the story line is the snark. It is a good book but there is missing elements. The characters are great. The book ended with questions still unanswered completely. I hope book 2 answers some of them.
I was prepared to dislike this because I need more Ghost Mountain Shifters, but it is impossible to resist the charm, the glow of this new series starter. Purple is my new favorite color!
