This is a lavishly illustrated history of Britain's royal family, from Alfred the Great to the current queen. Most of the book deals with Elizabeth II, her children and grandchildren. It's great simply for the amazing illustrations, and is informative about topics such as the crown jewels, various castles and palaces, and even commemorative stamps. The text is stodgy, however, and doesn't always follow exact chronology. And, surprising in a book about royalty, there are no family trees or genealogical charts. There are also no maps.

More a reminder that regardless of the obvious differences, some deep personal problems faced by these royals are very similar to what my friends have gone through. This book is a bit outdates though, it was before Megan Markle's move into the Royals.

1. My favorite of all royals has to be Princess Anne.
- She liked horses
- She made the best of her privileges without drawing attention
- She led a normal life while being a princess.

If there is one princess that I would like to swap life with, maybe it is with her.
Although I like my own life to swap with anyone's for that matter.

2. Never knew Mountbatten was killed. I am not too sure, but I guess he was responsible for the independence of India. I wouldn't be surprised if he were killed by citizens from any of the countries colozined by UK, but ironically he was killed by the Irish. From what I know of Mountbatten(which is very little) he seemed like a nice, decent guy who did his best. RIP Mountbatten.

Interesting read. Hope monarchy and all kinds of meaningless things that divides people and cause inequality of any kind rot and die.
Happy Jubliee everyone!

This book is amazing because Queen Elizabeth II is amazing. She has been the Queen of England for my entire life, and I admire her for her steadfast devotion to a life of service to her country. I admit I didn't read every word of the book, but it is very well organized and has an outstanding array of photos, as well as a history of the British monarchy and biographies of all the members of the current royal family. Weddings, children, and sadly, divorces too, and good coverage of Princess Diana. I'm not a fan of Prince Charles, but here's a factoid that raised my low opinion of him: his Prince's Trust enabled Idris Elba to attend theater school, so thank you! (This is just one of the many DK books that have really impressed me; they are all beautiful, concise and comprehensive books. Bravo!)
