The three half sisters want answers, and since Colt is out of town visiting family, Abby finds herself pulled into the complex and dangerous investigation. Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Another lovely holiday visit to Holiday Bay. Abby, Georgia and Jeremy have an inn full of guests and lots of activities for entertainment. Abby is once again involved in a mystery as neighbors report a "haunting" and then discover a body outside their home. I always enjoy reading this series by Ms. Daley who includes not only an intriguing mystery but also friendship, family and touch of romance with each book.

Another Christmas has come to Holiday Bay, and innkeeper Abby Sullivan and friends are celebrating the season when there's been a murder at the home of their former tenants. They help solve the murder mystery, while Abby has a more personal mystery of her own to solve -- who's leaving her wonderful, personal Christmas gifts?

The inclusion of Shelby, Sierra, and Sage is a great callback to the previous books, and the murder itself has lots of layers that make it interesting. I do love the Christmas aspects of the book, and my favorite part is Abby's search for her Secret Santa (which I won't spoil). Cookies in the Cottage is a very good little Christmas mystery.

This is the perfect book for this holiday season, what with the pandemic and all bringing us down. The description of all the Christmas decorations, the love shown by all the friends to each other, the wonderful guests and their wonderful side stories all made for a wonderful and very happy read.

Cookies in the Cottage earns 5/5 Bonfires and S’mores...Engaging Entertainment!

Kathi Daley has penned another entertaining book in her Inn at Holliday Bay series with a couple of fascinating mysteries with bodies, another mystery with cookies and presents, and sleigh rides, s’mores, and lots of Christmas fun! Over Thanksgiving, three half-sisters, who had not been aware of each other, met over Thanksgiving as part of the conditions set down in the Last Will and Testament of their, also previously unknown, grandmother Henrietta Rosewood. The trio decided to meet again over Christmas holidays to finalize decisions about the house and belongings they inherited. Strangely, they raised concerns about the “creaks and groans” and odd electrical issues that they have deemed more unusual than just quirks of an old house. Also, during their search, they discovered a secret room along with some personal diaries locked in a desk. The diaries made for informative reading and an introduction to the woman referred to as “Henri,” and also discovering in her writings, she was experiencing the same noises the women were hearing. Ghosts? No. The working theory is Henri may have been haunted by someone more corporeal, and it may have led to her premature death. Abby loves a good mystery, so the story sparks her interest, but a full blown investigation becomes necessary when the former groundskeeper is found “dead in the shed.”

Kathi Daley’s writing style is very engaging and has made me a life-long fan of her huge catalog of cozies. Her use of descriptive language brings to life the wintery Maine setting and sights and sounds of Christmas. The dialogue does well to illustrate the various personalities and tone and emotions in the drama. But, again, it’s the characters that make this series a favorite. Abby has grown comfortable with this chapter of her life, and although she hasn’t forgotten her tragic past, she has found a delightful and rewarding way forward and can now look upon her tragedy and see fond memories. She has also opened her heart again and the relationship between her and Colt is loving and supportive, and her involvement in many official mysteries is recognized and valued. Several avenues of interest happen off the page or quickly moved from “we should” to “here’s what we found out.” This keeps reader focused on the mystery and not extraneous investigations. However, there’re lots of holiday activities, taking care of the Inn and the guests, and just being with friends. Engaging. Fun. Endearing.

Cookies in the Cottage is the thirteenth book in Kathi Daley’s heartwarming The Inn at Holiday Bay series. The setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The storyline is well plotted, and there are lots of twists and red herrings in the complex mysteries contained within this book. The storyline flows smoothly, and the book is a clean read with a perfect blend of mystery, heartache, joy, caring, along with a touch of sweet romance. Every time I pick up one of Ms. Daley’s books, I know I’m in for a treat, and I’ve never been disappointed. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.

After losing her husband and their infant son in a tragic accident, Abby Sullivan moved to Holiday Bay, Maine, opened the Inn at Holiday Bay, where she has made a new life for herself, and found a home and a family. Georgia Carter, who has also overcome obstacles in her life, is the inn’s talented cook/baker and manager, and she and her Newfoundland dog, Ramos, live with Abby, Rufus, a Maine Coon, and Molly, a terrier mix, in a cottage on the property. Georgia’s cable cooking show, Cooking with Georgia, is doing very well. Jeremy Slater, who lives in the inn’s basement apartment with his young niece, Annabelle, is a valuable asset as he helps Georgia with the day-to-day operations of the inn. Abby’s relationship with Police Chief Colt Wilder is progressing nicely.

In this installment, the three half-sisters, Shelby Morris, Sage Wilson, and Sierra Danielson, who recently stayed at the Inn at Holiday Bay and inherited millions of dollars from the grandmother they never knew existed, have returned to spend several weeks and Christmas together in the mansion they inherited. After hearing strange sounds and seeing strange lights during the night, they wonder if a person is “haunting” the house and ask Colt to look into their grandmother’s death. Shelby’s boyfriend, Scot, and his dog, Digger, are also staying at the mansion. Unfortunately, their holiday is interrupted when Digger finds the body of the ex-groundskeeper, William Andrews, stuffed in a shed on the property. Meanwhile, Abby is baffled by unique and thoughtful Christmas gifts addressed to her that are mysteriously showing up in the cottage.

I saved this one to read on Christmas Eve and it was a perfect read to get into the Christmas spirit. Alongside the many festive activities for the guests were were several mysteries; the main plot of a handyman found dead at the estate the three half-sisters Sage, Shelby and Sierra inherited in the last book, which lead to the second mystery - who or what was "haunting" the mansion and did it cause the death of their grandmother, Henrietta and last, someone is leaving gifts for Abby in the cottage, but who's behind it?

This one makes up for the turkey that was the last book (which was a Thanksgiving book, so that was a really bad pun. *Groan*) by expanding on the story line of the 3 half-sisters and the mysterious death of the handyman, which resulted from some very shady shenanigans and led to an exciting conclusion. I loved the resourcefulness of Abby and Colt to find their way out of the predicament they found themselves in.

But my favorite plot of the book was the secret Santa presents in the cottage that held fond memories for the still grieving Abby. It was so sweet that so much love was shown to her, really put me in the right Christmas mood.

Overall, an excellent, festive read and now I can't wait for the next one!

All Abby Sullivan wanted to do was enjoy the cozy vibes of her inn and maybe sneak a Christmas cookie or twelve, but fate—and a mystery—had other plans. In Cookies in the Cottage, book #13 of The Inn at Holiday Bay series (which, yes, you can absolutely read as a standalone), Abby once again finds herself with a puzzle she technically doesn’t have to solve… but we all know that’s not happening.

It all starts when a guest arrives at the inn with a simple request: help find a long-lost friend who supposedly packed up and left town years ago. But as Abby starts digging, the details aren’t adding up—because when does anyone in a cozy mystery ever really leave town quietly? With each new discovery, it becomes clear that the missing woman didn’t just ghost Holiday Bay; she vanished under circumstances way more suspicious than a burnt batch of snickerdoodles. Meanwhile, in a subplot that would make The Great British Bake Off look tame, Georgia is knee-deep in a competitive Christmas cookie contest, proving that in this town, the holiday spirit is best served with a rolling pin and a questionable amount of sugar.

As the past collides with the present, Abby must piece together the truth before this mystery goes colder than a December night in Maine. With its perfect blend of small-town charm, festive atmosphere, and just enough wait, did that really happen? moments to keep things spicy, this 4.5-star read is the cozy equivalent of a warm Christmas cookie—sweet, satisfying, and just messy enough to keep you hooked. Relax with your cocoa… just know, in Holiday Bay, even the gingerbread houses have secrets.

The main points in this read:

1. Strange noises and flickering of lights only during nighttime hours in the half sisters grandmothers (Henri) home they inherited.
2. Someone possibly haunting Henri’s home which may have left to her death. Henri left diaries behind explaining she only recently began having haunting problems.
3. The sisters requesting Abby and Colt’s help in getting to the bottom of who is haunting Henri’s estate/half sisters new home.
4. Body of Henri’s ex-groundskeeper found Inn the shed on the estate grounds.
5. Random personal gifts left for Abby. She doesn’t know who they’re from.

In this read, something awful happened to Abby and Colt. I’m actually surprised at the event, because so far Abby has managed to keep herself safe during all of her self-investigations from the previous books.

Colt and his black bag have regularly been at the cottage, so that is exciting. I love a bit of romance thrown into mysteries!

Like all previous 12 books, most of the mysteries have been solved, but also like the previous, the next book will have answers to the rest. I’m still looking forward to reading more about the sisters. They’re fun people.

Next book is The 15th of 18. The Inn at Holiday Bay: Details in the Documents.

Everyone in Holiday Bay is busy preparing for Christmas, including the staff at the Inn. They are fully booked with guests young and old. Once again they will be offering a variety of activities along with lists of things to do and a bulletin board for posting photos. The three half-sisters who recently met when they inherited their grandmother's estate are doing their planned Christmas get together during which they will decide whether to sell the house or not. Then the maintenance man for their property is found dead in a storage shed. Colt is out of town so Abby starts asking questions of the locals to dig up clues. Another fun mystery in this installment is the surprise Santa gifts Abby finds in their cottage on the days leading up to Christmas. They are very personal to her kinds of things - like cookies her grandmother used to make, or a personalized mug matching one she'd had as a child. How does someone sneak into their cottage to drop off the gifts when the dogs are there without raising an alarm?

Good mystery

I gave this book 4 stars vs. 5 because I had a hard time getting into it. Usually with this series, I am hooked from page 1, but that has not Bern the case with the last two books of this series. However, I when I got about half way through this one, things picked up a bit and I could not put it down. As always with this series, there is a couple or three mysteries going on at the same time. In this one, there is a murder and a possible murder to be solved as well as a Christmas gift mystery to be solved. I found parts of the story exciting and parts heart touching, some sort of "everyday life stuff" and of course some romance. The dogs and cat did not play much of a part in this story and I sort of missed that. However, despite a difficult beginning, I liked the story well enough to look forward to the next book in the series.

Great, great book!!!!!

I love, love this series!!!!
As Abby and Georgia are getting ready for the holiday guests and the events they have planned, Shelby and Sierra were telling Abby about some weird things going on at the mansion that are the same things happened in the past with their grandmother.
Then all of a sudden it stops. What does Shelby's boyfriends dog find in the garden shed?
It sets off a wild chain of events especially when Colt is out of town and it's Abby that has to figure it out, while the two new police officers have to investigate.
Abby starts getting pieces to this huge puzzle with lots of people connected to three players in the mystery.
It involves deception, jealousy, blackmail, greed, and murder!!!!!
Now get this book, it is too good to tell you more, you won't be disappointed!!!!!

Abby Sullivan moved to Holiday Bay, Maine after losing her husband and baby boy. Now she has a thriving inn and a new family. It's the Christmas season and the Inn is full. With a lot of activities planned, everyone at the inn is busy but when s murder occurs while Colt is away, Abby dives right in.

Kathi Daley is a favorite cozy mystery author and this book shows why. I love this series and Kathi keeps it fresh with each book. The book's well-written with wonderful characters you'll enjoy getting to know. It was a quick, fun read that drew me right in from the beginning and kept me hooked until the end. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.

Abby Sullivan has found a new home, new purpose, and new friends in Holiday Bay.
As Christmas approaches and guests and old friends return to celebrate the holidays, Abby finds herself with a mystery. Someone is leaving her gifts in her private cottage and her dogs (and cat) don't seem to mind. Who could it be?
Recent guests, now friends, have inherited a mansion from the grandmother they didn't know until after her death. As they are trying to get to know her, and each other, strange things are happening at their new home. Will it scare them off before they have a chance to bond?

Full of all things fans of Kathi Daley's series love, and perfect for those who enjoy Hallmark movies, Debbie Macomber novels, clean cozy mysteries and small town life.

It is for my own notes.

I didn't finish this book because I got really bored at 80% there. The transitions from one scenery to another was abrupt and short while the others were more elaborate. For example, she wrote about her coming back to the cottage and about her home before three word sentence that she went back to the inn where the character promptly jumped into the story. The interactions between characters were not was deep and personal...it was as if I watched a show showing two people having a dialogue without any inkling to what they are thinking or feeling. There were too many characters to keep track of who is who and what they were doing. Plus, I didn't get to read fun red herrings there and get to experience fun rising suspense associated with mysteries.

Cookies in the Cottage is the thirteenth book in the fantastic The Inn at Holiday Bay cozy mystery series by Kathi Daley. This story takes place in the charming tourist town of Holiday Bay, Maine. The setting is perfect for a Christmas mystery: it is snowing outside and there are festive decorations at the inn and all around town. The elements of a cozy mystery are present including suspense, danger, romance, humor, love, friends and family, and a sense of community. I enjoy the character development and the expansion of Abby’s friend set. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable read.

Cookies in the Cottage is the 13th book in the The Inn at Holiday Bay cozy mystery series by Kathi Daley. This story takes place in the charming tourist town in Holiday Bay, Maine. Since it is almost Christmas time the Inn is in full Christmas mode with lots of activities for for their guests. Abby has her own mystery to solve as to who is her secret Santa. The half-sisters that we met in the last book has come back for Christmas. Since they are staying in their grandmother's Henrietta Rosewood house. And this is where a body shows up in the shed!

Kathi Daley is an exceptional writer that keeps me coming back to read even more of her books.

Ghostly noises, mysterious gifts and a dead body make for a wonderful beginning to a new mystery just in time for the holidays.

With Police Chief, Colt Wilder, Abby's boyfriend, out of town, Abby finds herself thrown into the middle of a complex mystery, spanning several years and involving the home that three sisters have recently inherited from their grandmother.

This book is filled with warm holiday cheer, a strong sense of community and caring friends and family.

Highly recommended.

Christmas and mysteries

When a man turns up dead in a shed, Colt looks into his death, which is related to the death if an elderly woman who owned the estate. Abby, meanwhile has her own mystery to solve. Who keeps leaving her special gifts? And how do they know what these gifts mean to her? Will the answers to both mysteries be solved? I laughed, I cried, and I laughed some more as I read this. Family is more about the special people in your life than who you share blood with. A perfect look into traditions.

The continuing adventures of Abby in the Inn at Holiday Bay. It's a place seemingly plagued with mysteries and murders but with a cast of likeable characters, now fairly well developed. Abby as the widow of a police officer and an established writer of fiction has the instincts neefed to investigate those mysteries. Once again there are two situations running side by side. The one is a murder related to an estate that might soon be sold and the other are a series of gifts appearing at the Inn from a Secret Santa. The plot is fun to watch develop and the reader may figure the mystery on their own, but the book holds together and is enjoyable. Easy to recommend.

Christmas Surprises and of course Murder

What would Christmas be without some surprises and some murder in Kathi Daley's books? I love the way she can put us in the Christmas spirit while investigating murder. This book has a lot of great adventures for the Sleuth in most mystery readers. Not only did we have a murder or two, there was a little bit of kidnapping. Abby and Colt had so much to solve while trying to make time for some romance. This was another intriguing feature for our reading pleasure. I loved it.

Inn at holiday bay. Cookies in the cottage

Oh my goodness. Absolutely love this author and her ability to weave a mystery within a mystery. Abby is missing Colt when he goes to visit his parent and sisters children. Handyman is killed after his employer dies from a supposed fall down the stairs. Then Abby starts getting weird presents that no one could know about in her cottage and no clue why or who. Then Abby and Colt are kidnapped. Absolutely love the ending!!!

Christmas.......Appreciating friends.

This book is about friendship. The mystery is secondary. Over the last 13 books we have accompanied Abby in her search for a new life.
Moving to Maine; opening The Inn; becoming part of the town of Holiday Bay. We have met her new friends; watched her fall in love with Colt......and well everything else. It is Christmas......they all celebrate

Hhm

The mystery noises at the house inherited by the three sisters turn out to be linked to the gardener William.. but when his body is found in the shed Colt and Abby have to work out who else might have been working with William to scare Henri.

It's all pretty obvious as the tale progresses there's really only one serious contender who would need the estate sold to benefit.

The mystery of the secret gifts left for Abby is equally obvious.
