A jewelry heist, a kidnapping, and a choice. When Fitz’s sister disappears, he’ll do anything to get her back, even if it means betraying the woman he’s come to love. Private investigator Fitz McCaffrey went to Belize on a case, bringing his teenage sister Shelby along with him. They have no good reason to leave the resort and hurry back to the harsh New England winter. They lost their parents, he lost his job as a cop, and they both need time to heal. Besides, when Fitz meets and spends time with the beautiful and charming Tabitha Eaton, he falls hard.
But minutes after Tabby’s flight leaves, Fitz is summoned by a mobster who believes Tabby broke into the hotel safe the night before and made off with half a million dollars’ worth of jewels—and he has the video evidence to prove it. As Shelby’s guardian, Fitz has to focus on caring for his sister, whether Tabby is innocent or guilty. He refuses to help the man—until he learns the mobster has abducted his sister.
The clock is ticking as Fitz scrambles to recover the jewels. If he succeeds, it’ll cost the woman he’s come to care for. If he fails, it’ll cost his sister’s life.
Mystery, suspense, and a sprinkling of romance to keep it fun.
Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. After college, working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball-and-chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. In this second book of the Coventry Saga Series, the action begins in Belize. Human Resources employee Tabby is there for a rare two week vacation. She has a paraplegic brother she helps with and a mom that excessively worries so getting away took a lot of motivation. Fitz is in Belize for an investigative job but needs to appear to be a normal tourist. He and Tabby quickly find a connection and spend many days together. Tabby keeps Fitz at an arm's length though due to the distance between their homes back in the states.
Fitz is shocked to learn that Tabby has been accused of international theft. The mob boss with the stolen items has taken Fitz' teenage sister as incentive for Fitz to find the stolen goods from his "girlfriend" Tabby.
Lots of action with twists and turns. The faith message throughout was delightful. Loved secondary character Abe. Robin Patchen has delivered again.
My gratitude to the author for a complimentary e-copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
3.5 stars "Somehow she was both a criminal mastermind and a bumbling idiot. . . . . The Tabby he knew was neither."
. . . . except that the video evidence is pretty convincing, it sure looks like Tabby. But a safe cracker and a jewel thief; never! What did private investigator Fitz McCaffrey really know about the lovely young woman who had stolen his heart while on assignment in Belize? Practically nothing. In the end, it doesn't really matter for a known criminal has virtually kidnapped Fitz's younger sister before issuing a clear ultimatum; Fitz has one week to locate the man's stolen property or the ending to the story will be anything but . . . . "happily ever after".
Cold, snowy Coventry held no luster; Tabby Eaton knew it would be hard, she just didn't imagine how hard . . . to leave Belize . . . . to leave Fitz. It would never work between them, it had been nice while it lasted, but Tabby doubts she will ever see or hear from him again. . . . until he shows up on her doorstep that very evening.
This high stakes suspense navigates speed bumps and hairpin curves at such a high rate of speed, that readers may be tempted to take deep breaths between chapters. But at its core reside two lonely people, struggling mightily to deepen their faith in a God who never abandons His children . . . . . for when Tabby admits, "I'm tired and scared and . . I have no idea what tomorrow is going to look like. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing, I'm just . . I feel like. . . like I'm a fish hanging from a hook, suspended between life and death" . . . Fitz answers, "we're all in the hands of a God who loves us".
Enjoy being a part of the process, because in the end, things just might work out. . . "It was all right. They had the rest of their lives."
A break from Robin Patchen's typical New Hampshire setting? Yes! Well, sort of, but still connected. Yet it contains all the heart-pumping tension we've come to expect from Ms. Patchen and her books.
I received a copy of this book. Great Story and wonderful characters. Full of action and plot twists. looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Tides of Duplicity is filled with action, danger, and many twists and turns that include an antique box, a half million dollar's worth of jewels, and a man who is part of an Irish mob operating out of Boston. After enjoying the company of Fitz McCaffrey during a two-week vacation in Belize, Tabitha Eaton plans to return to Coventry, New Hampshire. Instead, she is drawn into a desperate race to find Fitz's kidnapped sister and escape the mobster who will do anything to find the missing jewels. As they struggle to stay alive, it's apparent that their initial attraction has become something more. Will Tabitha and Fitz have a chance to pursue a deeper relationship? Can they overcome the many obstacles to their being together?
"She closed her eyes and begged God for her life, for all her lives. God wasn't about fair. God was about justice. God was about protecting his children."
Great characters, a beautiful setting, and an intriguing mystery help make this an entertaining novel but it is Robin Patchen's strong faith message that really impressed me! I recommend Tides of Duplicity to all who enjoy Christian romantic suspense.
I received a copy of this book from the author via Celebrate Lit. There was no obligation to write a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.
This was for sure an action packed novel like none I’ve ever read before! A two week vacation to Belize was supposed to be a fun, restful time for Tabby. She meets an interesting man named Fitz, along with his sister Shelby. Everything is turned completely upside down when Tabby is suspected of stealing a quarter million dollars worth of jewels. Bring in a mobster boss, and his cohorts who claim that Tabby is the thief. Fitz goes on a week long search for the jewels to save Shelby and Tabby. Break-ins, gun shots, kidnapping and spying all come into play. Nail biting while reading became the norm for me. It certainly kept me glued to my seat! And what an ending!! I received an ebook copy of this novel from the publisher but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are my own.
Plenty of action, a kidnapping and lots of suspense. How will this all end. You have Fitz, so things should work out. It’s impossible to not binge read, otherwise there’s no sleeping.
I really enjoyed the suspense of this book and how it kept the reader guessing to the end. The characters were well rounded, the storyline engaging, and it left me wanting more. Great read.
Another exciting romantic suspense novel from Robin Patchen! Ms. Patchen is one of my go-to authors for this genre and she doesn't disappoint! While this is the second book in the Coventry Saga, it can easily stand alone. The heroine from book 1 is briefly mentioned in passing as is the fact that there was a killer in Coventry, but you don't need the history of that to enjoy this book. Fans of the Legacy series/Nutfield saga will be glad to see Chelsea and Dylan in this one and catch back up to them, but again their history is not necessary for this book either. It's nice for those who are fans to catch up with some "old friends" though.
This book follows Tabby, who has decided to take a much needed vacation to a resort in Belize. While there, she meets Fitz and they fall for each other almost immediately. When Tabby leaves Belize to head home to Coventry, though, Fitz gets pulled into an un-winnable situation and he is put on a short timeframe to get it figured out, and that takes him to Tabby's doorstep. Will they be able to figure out what happened in enough time to save Fitz's sister?
I really enjoyed the plot-line and suspense of this story. I was anxious to see who the real culprit was and how they would get out of their sticky situation. There was also a solid faith thread that I appreciated as the characters prayed and discussed faith. While I liked the characters for the most part, I really struggled to like Fitz (I know, I know). This is in large part a personal issue as I'd dated a guy in college who didn't understand the word "no" and was super manipulative and abusive (not physically). So, when book "heroes" seem overly pushy and don't listen when a girl says "no", I just don't like them. So, when Tabby says that the long distance relationship when they return home won't work and he won't accept that, it just rubbed me the wrong way. (It's also why I don't like Han Solo, much to my husband's dismay). I did feel like the romance moved too fast, particularly because there was some deception up-front, which is why this is a 4-star instead of a 5 star review. But if you like a heavier dose of romance in your romantic suspense, this one is for you! I would definitely recommend this one (and all books by this author) to fans of romantic suspense.
Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
This is the second book in a series. Book three comes out this summer. You’re going to want to read the series in order. You don’t have to of course, but everything always makes more sense if you follow the order of things like this. Plus who doesn’t want more good books to read?!
I did read book one first and it was amazing. It focuses on one of the best friends of Tabby and you will see her and her new husband in this book. Tabby is a workaholic. She doesn’t like her job and one of her sole purposes for working there is job security. That money she needs to help her brother who’s a paraplegic. She feels he’s her responsibility.
Fitz is a wonderful character. I love that he took on being the legal guardian for his younger sister. Shelby is a teenager and that pretty much explains a lot about her though I did really appreciate her character too. I love that they have a secret code word in case someone feels uncomfortable. This is something we’ll do with our kids once they start venturing forth on their own.
What can go wrong when a mob boss kidnaps Shelby and forces Fitz to get stolen jewels back from Tabby with only a week to do it in? Wait. Do you mean Tabby stole the jewels? Of course not! So who really did and what if they can’t find them within the week’s time?
This was a great read. It read super fast and I loved the characters and all the spots they got themselves into. Plus I love this author and the Coventry area. I’ve visited it before in her books and was happy to be back! You’re definitely going to want to read this book and the whole series.
Robin Patchen is an author I have come to love as I read more and more of her books. She writes with a raw honesty about hard subjects and tough emotions. You can’t help but be drawn into her stories and lose yourself to the characters.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
A suspenseful tale of betrayal, loss, lies, false accusations, kidnapping, a faltering former partnership, an unexpected love, self-doubt, faith, crime, punishment, and taking responsibility v. not doing so. Fitz and Abe, former cops and partners, have been betrayed, led into an ambush with a drug gang despite careful planning. Fitz knows that he didn't do it, but he hasn't had faith in his partner to give him the benefot of the doubt. Now, Fits and his teenaged sister, bereaved of their parents in a freak accident, are trying to put their lives together as her defense of her brother and guardian loses her friends at school. She's now attending online high school. Fitz has hung out his shingle as a PI, and has an assignment that takes him to Belize, along with his sister. Posing as a nature photographer, he has about wrapped up the case when Shelby's summer romance, Shawn, invites her for a tour on the family yacht - but his father is the head if a crime family, and this isn't an invitation, it's a kidnapping. The mobster shows Fitz a video that looks like Tabby, the woman who has captured his heart though he doesn't yet know how badly), cracking a safe and removing a fancy box that contains jewelry worth millions, a box he bid for at Sotheby's through a proxy and that he needs desperately to sell at a profit. Fitz has to find the stolen goods and return them to Mullins to get his sister back. Tabby, though, doesn't seem like the careful international jewel thief that she would have to be as Fitz goes to New Hampshire to get to know her better and to search for the stolen goods. As the 2 fall for each other, and Fitz and she learn about the challences each of them faces, they draw closer. But time is not on their side if they are to find who really has the jewels and thus rescue Shelby. Can they make the deadline in time?
I’m new to Robin Patchen’s books (this is only my second one) but I am forever a fan. Love the way she develops a suspense plot and creates characters with depth and conviction. Inspirational without being preachy. And, whoa, but she knows how to keep a reader on edge right through the entire read! So thank you to all my bibliophile kindred spirts who recommended this author to me!
The story begins with the sweet beginnings of romance at an exotic Belize resort. Fitz and Tabby meet when their vacations overlap, neither looking for romance. Fitz has his hands full parenting his teenage sister while Tabby feels burdened by family responsibilities back home. Still, the attraction is there and furthering their connection once they are both stateside is a tantalizing temptation. One that Tabby is more able to resist than Fitz, because once she boards her plane she’s convinced she will never see him again.
But then Fitz shows up on her doorstep back home in Coventry and her world implodes because he’s there under false pretences…or is he? Argh, but there were aspects of their romance that tied me up in knots! Because Fitz is in part, playing a role as a means to an end. Only, also, he isn’t. Love the tangled twist to their romance as the suspense slowly builds. And then it transforms into a high-stakes treasure hunt that kept me frantically engaged until the end.
Phew! Looking forward to continuing with the Coventry Saga series. I’ve been listening to the audio books narrated by Aimee Lily and am really enjoying the way she portrays a variety of characters as well as the sense of urgency she brings to the high-octane scenes. Makes for a compelling listen.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But is it? Really? Yes, there is a video showing all, showing a jewel heist. But…..
Once again, Robin Patchen, lures you into a storyline full of twists and turns. As you read you’ll probably be wondering if this time evil will win. But I kept thinking of Joseph telling his brothers: ‘What you meant for evil, God used for good.’ This book is like that…. evil lurks, looking for it’s next target. And, the very title of this book clues us in to expect duplicity and even betrayal. Is Tabby really guilty? Can Fitz save her while saving his sister? Can he trust help from someone who’s already betrayed him? Hard choices must be made.
With all the intrigue, suspense and drama, this author brings in glimmers of light… and where there is but a spark of light, darkness can’t reside. It’s refreshing to read a good book of suspense and mystery without cringing, a book where focus is on the plot line and not unnecessary filler pages. Fitz has almost impossible choices to make and its hard to not feel his pain, his anguish. Faith plays a big role in this book. Trusting in God while things look impossible and darkness surrounds, is not always easy. This author shows the realism of this. That’s one of the things I appreciate about her writing. She tackles the tough issues of faith, of light vs darkness. This book is no different… but do remember when reading, it’s always darkest before the light. Enjoy!
I received an advance copy of this book and I am leaving my personal thoughts and opinions. Yes, I am biased because I’ve yet to read a book this author has written that I don’t like. She's a ‘go to’ author for me.
Tides of Duplicity by Robin Patchen Robin Patchen did an outstanding job with Tides of Duplicity. I love Tabitha (Tabby) and Fitz’s love story. It’s the best romantic suspense story ever. The two meet while on vacation. They spend two amazing weeks together. Fritz is on vacation with his teenage sister Shelby. Shelby adds her own romantic story to the mix which adds to the craziness of the story. You get to have Dylan and Cassidy ( Legacy Series) make an appearance in this story that has lots of twist and turns in it. This book is full of lots of action and adventure. You get to meet a few new characters that make this story even more interesting. Hold on for one crazy ride. This book is definitely a page turner. Fitz is raising his teenage sister all alone. You can imagine how hard that would be for both of them. Well you get an up close look into their lives. Tabby is on vacation for the first time ever. She’s has a good life back home. Tabby isn’t very fond of her job, but she feels stuck. Fitz is a private investigator on the job while on vacation. When the two meet it’s like a dream come true, but unfortunately just like dreams and vacation they both end. Tabby heads back home to her normal and somewhat boring life. Fitz and Shelby continue on with their vacation. All of the sudden Shelby is kidnapped and Tabby is accused of a jewelry heist. Fitz is caught in the middle of saving his sister and finding the stolen jewelry. I love how Robin reaches into the depth and breath of all the characters life’s. You will not be disappointed at all with reading Tides of Duplicity.
From the start of the book you can tell this is going to be a non stop thriller. Tabby and Fitz meet in Belize and hit it off right away. Little does Tabby know that her life is about to be turned upside down. The setting is beautiful as the couple gets to know each other. All seems great when Tabby returns to the states. But lurking in the distance is a mystery unraveling with Tabby as the main suspect.
Fitz is described as quite attractive and his charm is natural. As a private detective he runs into some questionable people. His sister is everything to him and when her life is in danger, he goes full throttle to save her. Somehow Tabby is accused of a crime that puts her life as well as Fitz and her sister in grave danger. I loved how the story never lagged and kept me on my toes. It’s a race to see if Fitz can prove Tabby innocent before anyone gets hurt.
The faith element in the story shows how the characters trust God and never give up. At times they don’t know if they can keep one step ahead of the people after them. Faith is evident as Fitz relays on God to make good decisions and seek the truth.
The author throws in a few surprises that have me second guessing who the guilty people are. They are ruthless and have no problem doing what is necessary to get their merchandise back. It made me mad that they would use Fitz’s daughter as leverage against him. He and Tabby are in survival mode as they travel where the leads take them. Will they find out who the real thief is? If you are looking for an action packed faith filled clean read, this is a must read.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Tides of Duplicity was a straight up fun and suspenseful romance. Tabby experiences a whirlwind romance in Belize which she decides will always be precious in her memories, but she can't be with Fitz. She just met him for one, and two, she feels really responsible for her Mom's and brother's happiness. So much so that she has just settled into her life. Forgoing all pleasure, (except this trip where she met the man of her dreams), working at a job she is not happy at, and overall just existing.
PI Fitz cannot understand why Tabby and he cannot pursue a relationship together. They don't live that far apart and he would like to have a future with her. Yes he is the sole guardian of his teenage sister, but eventually she will grow up and leave. However, an unfortunate event takes place, accusations are made, threats are given, and this turns everything Fitz thought about Tabby on its head.
Tabby on the other hand, has gone back to her mundane life not knowing the turmoil that is about to be unleashed on her. Can Fitz choose between Tabby and his sister or can he protect them both from the danger that is breathing down their necks.
I really enjoyed Fitz's protectiveness for Tabby, even when he was not sure of her. Both he and Tabby had issues to work through and the danger they were under motivated them to work through them pretty quickly. And the romance was well told.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Tides of Duplicity By: Robin Patchen is a Christian Romantic Suspense Novel. This book is part of the Coventry Saga series. This is the first book that I have read by this author. She has a real gift with her writing and I look forward to reading more from her. In this book we see Private investigator Fitz McCaffrey go to Belize to work a case. He brings his teenage sister with him. Fitz is Shelby's sole guardian. They are enjoying the break from the yucky New England weather. What he does not count on when he is trying to relax is meeting Tabitha Eaton. He seems to be really into her. They spend a wonderful few weeks together, However, then Fitz is contacted by the mob. They stated that Tabitha was seen on video taking them. Now Fitz has a dilemma on his hands. So much so that he gets his old partner to help him investigate. Especially after his teenage sister is kidnapped. Now you know anytime the mob is involved you know it is going to be a good story. I enjoyed having my heart pound throughout this entire story. There are a lot of twists and turns. There is also a strong faith element in this story. I love how the author weaves in the reminder of how God is always there for us. That we need to trust God in all things even if what is facing us is scary. Well written characters, intriguing storyline, suspense, romance and so much more! I loved this book!I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program, all thoughts are my own.
One of the many things I love about Robin Patchen's books is running into characters from her previous books. This time it was Fitz McCaffrey, a police detective who had to resign under a cloud of suspicion and his former partner, Abe Bachelor. Fitz, now working as a private detective and sometimes nature photographer, has become his sister's guardian after the death of their parents. Now something has placed his sister in danger, and he may have no choice but to rely on the partner who had betrayed him.
Tabby Eaton, had lost the adventure from her life, and had tried to get just a little of it back by taking a two-week vacation to Belize. She could never have imagined the not-so-pleasant adventure that was to follow as a case of mistaken identity placed her squarely in the crosshairs of a drug-dealing mob boss.
Robin Patchen's books have the perfect mix of romance, suspense, and wisdom. In this book Patchen explores the depth of her characters' faith, and asks the question of just how far will they trust the goodness and sovereignty of God. A question all of us would benefit from pondering from time to time.
I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Tides of Duplicity from the author without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.
I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED this suspenseful story! Meeting Fitz during her 2-week vacation in Belize, Tabby develops feelings for him. But she refuses to allow herself to go further than flirting--no kissing, no attachment--because soon it'll all be over, and both will be on their way returning to their homes. Fitz is actually not on vacation in Belize (as he pretends) but working a private investigation job, bringing along his kid sister Shelby (whom he's also guardian of since their parents died). He falls for Tabby, but her vacation soon ends and she's gone. Then all of a sudden, the unimaginable happens! Kidnapping, working for the mob, a jewelry heist--WOW! And the ending moves quicker with more twists and turns as Fitz fights against a deadline to solve the mystery and get his sister back. I enjoyed the nail-biting journey which kept me up a few nights, I must admit. The challenges of a 20-something raising a teen sister, untangling and resolving the unbelievable evidence against Tabby (while developing feelings for her), and calling a former friend to help (even though they severed ties years before) when all else seems to fail, make this an exciting read! So happy for the HEA ending also! I highly recommend this exciting clean suspense!
Robin Patchen has penned another winner in Tides of Duplicity, Book 2 in the Coventry Saga series. Tabby Eaton and Fitz McCaffrey meet and are drawn together while on vacation in Belize. Tabby needed a break from family issues and her unfulfilling job. Fitz, PI, former detective and his teen sister, Shelby, sought a reprieve as they mourned the sudden death of their parents in an accident. Shelby becomes infatuated with Shawn, whose father, unbeknownst to Fitz, Tabby or Shelby, is a mobster. Fitz wants to explore a relationship with Tabby once they leave Belize, but they live in different states and Tabby’s not into a long-distance relationship, though her feelings for Fitz are growing. Tabby leaves, and suddenly Fitz finds himself and his sister in the cross-hairs of the mobster who believes, from video footage, that Tabby has stolen his jewels from the hotel safe. Shelby is kidnapped and Fitz must quickly find Tabby (is she innocent or guilty?) and the jewels to save his sister’s life. Intrique, suspense, young faith. Twists and turns in a story of faith and romance put to the test. I received an ARC for my voluntary review and honest opinion.
They say "A picture is worth a thousand words" but sometimes what is seen is not what it appears. In this new novel by Patchen you will find it is not always so. In this novel the author has woven faith all through out the pages. So refreshing as all "Christian Fiction" is not so, though you would think it would be so......Tabby Eaton and Fitz McCaffrey meet and are drawn together while on vacation in Belize. Tabby realizes this could never work for they live in different states in the US. She cannot see herself in a long distance relationship. So she will not let her self become involved more than seeing each other while in Belize. When she left she thought that was it, she would never see him again. But then....here he is in her home town wanting to meet with her and asking strange questions. Patchen has written another great novel with espionage, mystery, kidnapping and robbery. There is danger, mystery and threatening of killing. You will not be disappointed in Tides Of Duplicity as it will keep you reading on to the last page...I received an ARC and I am happy to leave my review.
When Tabatha Eaton takes a much needed vacation to Belize, little does she know what is in store for her. Unwittingly, she becomes involved with a former detective, Fitz McCaffrey, who is being coerced by a mob boss to find jewels he believes have been stolen from him. When Fitz's teenage sister, for whom he is guardian, is abducted, he and his former partner, Abe, connect to try to rescue her and protect Tabatha, but they are outnumbered. When the thief is revealed, how will the mob boss react? As the stakes escalate, can Fitz and Abe handle this? They are not sure who to trust as both lost their jobs under a cloud of suspicion. Fitz has fallen in love with Tabatha, but he needs to convince her they can make things work and also clear his name. First though, they have to survive the nightmare they are in before they can even hope for a future.
Tides of Duplicity is a clean, fast-moving, and highly suspenseful novel which I highly recommend. Ms. Patchen has once again created an outstanding book.
Back before his life fell apart, he’d been honorable and good.
The author has once again given us a book that is impossible to set aside until finished! The warm beginning at a lovely resort in Belize quickly becomes cold and scary with the return to ‘normal’ life in New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Tabby thoroughly enjoyed her time on vacation, even getting to know Fitz, a relationship that wouldn’t go anywhere since they lived in different states. Still, it was a real treat to be on her own, responsible only for herself for a change.
Fitz, a former law enforcement officer, is vacationing with his young sister, his ward. Suddenly things seem to turn upside down and he is left with trying to unravel the mystery. The action just heats up with break-ins, kidnapping and more. Will they ever solve the mystery and learn to live without fear, trusting that God has only the best in mind for all of them?
This ARC was received through the author and CelebrateLit. My rating, impressions and comments were in no way solicited.
The concept of this novel intrigued me, and the compelling suspense held steady throughout. Take a trip to Belize and meet some Americans who get to know each other while visiting there. Private Investigator Fitz McCaffrey and his teenage sister, Shelby, meet Tabby Eaton while on vacation. While the adults fall for each other, Shelby falls for a fellow teen. Surprise! The boy’s dad is not your typical rich guy and may just be dangerous. Things get tense and more complicated as Fitz tries to figure out what really happened and endeavors to protect the women he loves. The back cover copy gives away too much so I recommend not reading it before the book. One thing I didn’t care for in this captivating story was the edgy kissing scenes, which went into much more detail than the description and emotion in the rest of the scenes so it seemed unbalanced. I prefer to keep the intimacy off the page, left to the readers’ imagination. I did enjoy the mystery. It could make a good book club read. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
"Tides of Duplicity"by Robin Patchen is a fast paced suspense. It involves kidnapping and drama and romance and faith. This is a clean romance novel but I really though that it moved too fast. I mean, I know woman who go on adventures to a vacation spot isn't all that careful, but for Tabby to go of with Fitz hiking all alone and just after meeeting him and then for her to be even thinking this guy might be a serial killer was a little over the top for me. No, that isn't a spoiler alert because Fitz isn't one. I know this book is fiction but I was like Gee.
If you like a book with lots of turns and twists then this book is for you. This books brings the mystery into the first few chapters when Flitz gets a phone call and he learns that his sister is kidnapped.
This is the second book in the series and I didn't read the first one but I have downloaded it and will read as as I can and hope to read book 3 when it comes available.
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these are my own thoughts.
I finished this book several days ago and I am still thinking about it and the amazing characters. This to me, is a sign of a very good book! The original plot, with twists and turns, and the attention to detail are two big factors. One scene in the beginning, had me using all of my senses and they were hiking - I could see, feel and smell the environment. A favorite line:” his faith was like a stiff new pair of leather shoes he hadn’t broken in yet” still resonates with me. You will be engaged in this book and come to care about the characters while trying to find a solution to the circumstances they find themselves in. As always, Robin Patchen, has things work out in ways that I could never imagine or predict. A precious side to reading this book, I found a desire to be more available to share the gospel with people who come into my life - a gentle nudge in response to this easy to read and enjoyable book.
At first I thought this was a sequel as characters were acting because of some past events. The needed backstory comes in chapter four. I would have liked that material introduced earlier so I could have understood and appreciated the actions of Fitz, such as why he was in Belize doing what he was.
After that rough start, the novel is a good combination of budding romance and serious threats. There is a good deal of suspense towards the end. The strongest aspect of this novel is the good Christian message. It is strong and clear. I liked the main characters in general but was disappointed in Fitz'a deceptive actions. Honesty would have been better but then there would not have been the obstacles to romance.
This is a good novel for readers of inspirational romantic suspense who like a strong Christian message.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Wow I was thoroughly on the edge of my seat throughout this romantic suspense. Fritz and Tabby are 2 strangers that meet while on vacation in Belize and they feel an I stand connection but determine that they could not make it work in their lives and so they part ways. Until a life and death matter and some crooks force them back into each other’s lives and force them to sort out who are the good guys and who are the bad guys and figure out whether they can trust each other or not. During their struggle to stay alive, they are tested mentally, physically and spiritually. Will they come out alive and will they trust God in the process when their lives up to this point have given them reasons not to trust. I love the themes of wrestling with whether God can be trusted, with difficult circumstances of handicapped family and losing parents, with dealing with cards life has dealt, with understanding justice and mercy. It was a beautiful story.

Tabby has taken a well deserved vacation alone and met the most wonderful guy but their worlds were too far apart for her to consider more than the brief time she and Fitz spent together. Little did she realize her life was about to change drastically.
