Words are power,

It's an audacity to inspire
and teach the healing of love through arousal.

It's this crazy idea that love
can not only help a reader escape,

about being human,
while making them laugh,
cry,
and hot for more sex.

REPEAT READ! Wow...still all-time fav!

I truly loved Ivy and Saint's relationship along with her bestie, Holly and Nikolas! The ladies in Holly's wedding party were a hoot together! Those ghosts all lead the way for Ivy to learn some valuable lessons on faith, love and healing! I highly recommend "Ghosts of Christmas."

Ivy was a meanie and a Scrooge all wrapped up in one!!!!!

"You're a mean one Mrs. Grinch" real name Ivy Smith who was a talented fashion designer extraordinaire and a workaholic with some MAJOR commitment issues due to her parent's marriage and her mother's unforgettable and untimely death on Christmas Day!

Now think Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and his basic concept of the story reimagined and magnify into a Kenya Wright 2.0 Christmas Carol and very erotic IR romance between Ivy Smith and her best friend, Holly twin brother, Saint and my goodness do you get a smexy Christmas tale with a strange visit from her late mother and three ghost friends (Past, Present and Future) trying to teach Ivy some lessons on how she can be better while also having the best life EVER!

So get the tissue ready and be prepared for Ivy's metamorphosis with the love she rightfully deserved!

3 ⭐️ I'm conflicted...

At first, the give and take between Ivy and Saint's relationship made this whole plot worth it. But I didn't love the retelling 'three ghosts of Christmas' thing. And then, when the last 10% of the book came around... I just don't agree with the ending and I couldn't get behind several points the book was trying to make. Also, this book is honestly too long, there really is no need for all that.

This is specifically a review about the audiobook, which I have to say was not great. There were too many times where the voice of the narrator felt like two different people, patching up where there might have been a mistake or some other problem. It took me out completely.

I wouldn't consider this even top 10 Christmas read of this year. I read a lot, though.

The only reason this book is 3 stars is because the fmc is a powerful black woman (which is always an instant hell yes from me) and also for the fact that the s3x in this book is HOT -in all caps because my god...

This book surprised the heck outta me. I did not anticipate myself liking it but as it went on I got more invested. The Scrooge plot line but with a romantic twist. I like that the character really developed over the story to open her heart. Sort of like the Grinch and Scrooge mixed. I enjoyed this one and there were some super steamy parts too so it was spicey!

If you are a lover of Kenya Wright’s books then Ghosts of Christmas is a must read. Ghosts of Christmas is THE best book that she has ever written bar none. The characters in this book are engaging. I experience the full emotional gammot of dark anguish to pure triumphant joy. I felt like a cheerleader on the sidelines at the love story of Saint and Ivy. The emotional fears of Ivy being in an emotional relationship was very realistic and believable. Kenya Wright’s interpretation of her interpretation of “A Christmas Carol” and made it better than the original story. Not only did I emmensely loved the story but I planned to read it every year as a time honored tradition. I would have paid twice the amount to read this amazing story.

For December I am reading Christmas books at random, yet a high percentage turn out to be based on 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. "Ghosts of Christmas" by Kenya Wright is yet another reworking of the classic.
Christmas has always been the worst part of the year for successful fashion designer Ivy. Her mother hung herself on Christmas Day and Ivy found the body. Her grandfather also died at Christmas. As a result she shuns company, hasn't communicated with her cheating father for many years, hates December, and works like a woman possessed to keep her mind off what might be.
She picks up men for sex, not even learning their names, and remembers them by the colour she assigns each one.
Her best friends' brother, Saint, is the one exception - hot sex when they are together, regret when they are apart. The reader knows almost from the start that he is the one, but it takes his threat to move on with someone else, as well as the ghosts of past, present and future, to get Ivy to change her ways.
The problem with the book is that it tries to pack too many strands in and would have been perfectly fine without the woo-woo. As a result it gets silly towards the end and I did something I rarely do, I flash-read the final fifty pages or so.
If you are going to rehash Charles Dickens you'll need to do better than this for it to work.

The pacing was off on this one. The bachelorette party could have been cut a few paragraphs to make room for places where more of the story should have been told. The hero went on and on about his cock to where it's annoying. I wanted to get a feel of what type of neighborhood the heroine grew up in where she was raised with Saint, Holly and Nickolas. I wasn't sure if she was a black girl growing up in Finland with these other kids or not until I read ahead and it's hard for me to buy that her best friend had her wedding at this random country for the reason given. The ghost scenes were nicely done, I loved how the heroine drew the conclusion that her mother had moved on in her afterlife and made her transition. This is just an okay read for me overall.

An erotic rom com adaptation of A Christmas Carol to entertain and delight! Outstanding audio narration really brings the characters, their personalities, the angst, the laughter, the story fully to life! I've seen, read or listened to almost all adaptions of A Christmas Carol, Scrooge and so on, but this one is my new favorite adaptation! Of course, the original is always a classic and will remain in the top spot as greatest version, but of the adapted versions this one is my new favorite. The right amount of spice to heat the story up with a unique take on how the "Scrooge" of the story came to be and why the ghosts are there to visit her. Yep, our "Scrooge" in this version is a her and a vibrant, fabulous her she is!!! Think of a nice version of Miranda Priestly if she had been a designer rather than a magazine editor, but still driven and work focused while avoiding real life emotions twisted with Scrooge to become this book's main character. So, very much fun to listen too! I laughed out loud, I sniffled and even needed a tissue or two, but never fear a happily ever after is on the agenda! Definitely a fun must listen around the holidays or anytime really!

A Modern Christmas Carol

To sum this book up just like my title it is a modern Christmas carol story with a twist of naughtiness. Ivy and Saint were made for each other and I'm happy that Ivy didn't make the same mistakes as her mother.

Format Read: Audiobook from NetGalley (book available now)
Review: This was a good listen with a great narrator. The story is spicy and the ‘ghost” parts a little corny but over a good holiday book.

This book is a keeper

Amazing artwork in the chapters.
This is a cute and sassy take on A Christmas Carol. Ivy isn't exact Ebenezer Scrooge, but she is hurt and can't bring herself to love, but finds she has always been loving. Loved the stalwart hero, who has the best name - Saint. He is a Saint for being patient with Ivy all those years.
This book and the beautiful descriptions makes me want to visit Finland and see the ice castles although they can keep the reindeer steaks.

I would recommended this books to my friends and family. I love how Kenya wrote this Christmas story with a twist and added pictures for our imagination. Loved how she kept the three ghosts for three lessons for Ivy.The chemistry between Saint and Ivy was on point and then some. Saint shows that he goes for what he wants no holds barred. Everyone needs a friend like Holly! There to cheer you up and do there best to make Christmas special to u when it a bad time of year for you. You should check out this book

So good

I really enjoyed this book. Think of it as a super sexy A Christmas Carol.
What kept it from a five star rating was that it didn't really tie up the story of her father. It didn't touch on her parents relationship or his current one. I would have liked to see that explained more.

Awesome Read

This is an awesome read. I love reading these new takes on old tales. Ivy has been through a lot and experienced too much loss in her lifetime. Saint has loved her forever and just wants her by his side permanently. This book has it all, a great plot, excellent character interaction, romance and new beginnings. One of the best 2020 holiday books. I highly recommend you adding this read to your collection.

"A Christmas Carol" Kenya Wright Style!

I somehow seem to always underestimate the power of Kenya Wright's pen. I think that this book couldn't possibly be better than her last one. I'm so glad that I'm always wrong! This is an awesome version of the beloved tale...with lots of heat!

What a lovely Christmas story. Kenya Wright is on my short list of favorite IR authors. She almost never disappoints. This story with Ivy is a modern day take of A Christmas Carol. Ivy is a woman haunted by demons of her past. She lost her mother to suicide. That's a lot in itself. Fast-forward to adulthood and she's a successful fashion designer who always makes sure to donate to causes she cares about but also shuts herself off to love or connecting with anyone. Her childhood friend, Holly, is getting married in Finland and she's the maid of honor. Does she just let go based on her visits from Christmas past, present and future and allow Holly and her and her brother, Saint to love her? Read this book. It's lovely and put me in the Christmas spirit. Kenya does it again!

A Christmas Carol with a twist, and an important message

Worth the read. Trying to keep it spoiler-free, Ms Wright takes main elements from a well-known Christmas story and weaves them into something expansive, diverse, heart-breaking and heart-healing with a timeless message we all need to learn and that which we need to do to grow and heal in our lives and in the world. The setting is beautiful and magical and made me want to go, even being a person not caring for the cold. The hero, Saint, is all that--constant, loving, committed, intent, intelligent, successful, measured, patient. I can't say enough good about him. If only he were a real man! (I especially loved the kissing scene.)

"Ghost of Christmas" by Kenya Wright

My Speculation:

This was a wonderful Christmas Story that featured Ivy and Saint. What had happened to make Ivy that made her so bitter when it came to the Christmas holiday and let's not leave out her father? Will Ivy's best friend Holly's wedding held in Finland make a difference in this situation? Well, I think there will become some changes for Ivy, especially when Saint appears, a long-time friend. I enjoyed how this author delivered a read that presents a 'Christmas past, present, and future' using ghosts to teach the heroine some vital lessons that will bring it all out. I love this story comes together that puts a real Christmas spin on this holiday. Be ready for a good read as you will find yourself laughing at lots of what is going on with this group of friends... Ivy, Saint, Holly & Nicholas. This story will have some 'sadness, hurt, love, forgiveness, and some hot sex scenes' that will keep you turning the pages to see what is coming next. You will have to pick up "Ghosts of Christmas" to see how well this author brings it all out to the reader.

Steamy, Hot and Heartwarming

A wonderful take on the Scrooge tale. A successful young woman carrying the heartbreaking memories of Christmas past learns that there is hope and love. One holiday destination wedding and visits from the our ghosts teaches our heroine some much needed lessons. And of course a caring and devoted love adds just enough naughty and nice to help her through. Kenya has once again knocked it out of the park. My favourite writer of this genre! Must Read!!

Ghosts of Christmas

This was definitely a 5 star. The spin on Scrooge was a highlight. The story had it's own spin on the Christmas tail. How often to we carry unnecessary baggage into different situations. If more people could she the things that have,do,will affect them, the world would be a better place. Saint was definitely a saint to not give up on winning Ivy over. Love, loved this story.

KW when TV comes a calling show em this holiday romance bcuz that shower must be presented on film.

Not a single character is a waste of time. They contribute not just to our discovery of Ivy but also real insight into them as fully formed characters. KW didn't need them to be magical saviors because the story already had four of those.

Read this story this year and every year.

All I can say is Dang!

What a thrilling ride Kenya took me on, back to when I was a kid without the steamy sex.😁😁. Reading this brought back sweet memories of me, and my siblings drinking hot chocolate are eggnog.Having so much fun and listening to Christmas music. It brought back so much nostalgic waiting to open our gifts. I know this will be one of my favorite Xmas stories this year. This story in my opinion was better than the movie bc , I felt as if I was going through Ivy trials with her. I would recommend this story you want be disappointed.

Wow!!
I loved every bit of this story. A wonderfully erotic twist. Erotica that was tastefully written. The book was good I cant even describe it. And those illustrations. Excuse me while I clutch my pearls. Just read it. I think I will purchase it and have it as a go to Christmas Story. Saint was a Saint with his heart for Ivy only. He had the patience of Job. It was hilarious too. That Bachelorette party was too comical. The redemption was healing. Everything was magical romantic and simply beautiful. Ms. Wright you did all of that. Im a fan!!

Once again Ms. Wright pulls laughter from my belly, tears from my heart, and sighs from my soul (Saint and Ivy’s story is epic).
