I was fortunate enough to be sent a copy of this by the publisher. Mark Roberts has done it again. His previous book on GCSE English is one that I recommend to all my classes and many of my year 10s bring their copy to all their lessons. After reading this it is clear to me that the same will be true of the A Level book. It is a clear step up in terms of the guidance and support given enabling the jump to A Level to seem less extreme.
I was particularly pleased as someone who does one of the less popular specifications to see all the boards covered and referred to and differences flagged up.
As in Mark Roberts’ last book one of the most useful things about the book is it’s focus on the ‘how’ of the revision process when most commercial resources focus on ‘what’ they need to revise. I am well aware that my students need support in this area and it always helps to hear it from multiple sources, particularly when pointing out that what they think works in fact doesn’t really help.
Long story short, this book should be on all recommended reading lists for English Literature A Level Students. It will certainly be on mine.
