Never Going Back: The Gordon Ferguson Story: Lessons from a Life of Courage, Strength and Love

Rate this book
Gordon Ferguson is a quiet and humble leader. He knows what he wants to do and quietly finds a way to do it. He leads by example. He shows people what is important to him in a situation, and he just goes out and does it. He enjoys the spotlight, but he doesn’t seek it out. Life hasn’t been easy for Gord, and he doesn’t hold grudges. He is an eternal optimist. His hope for the future and positive outlook on life has been the determining factor to his success. He is loyal and committed to the values that he holds dear to his heart. He knows what is right and what he needs in his life, and he is not afraid to stand up and talk about it. Born with a developmental disability, Gordon was institutionalized for most of his youth. His proudest achievement, other than marrying his wife Donna, was helping to close the very institution whose staff abused and mistreated him. This closure, along with all institutions in Ontario for people with developmental disabilities, is only the crowing glory of his life's work. He has also founded and led a People First branch in Brockville, Ontario and has been an active board member of the Brockville and District Association for Community Involvement. He is a home owner, a leader, and an avid music and sports cards collector. His life has been rich with dedicated family and friends who have benefited from his wisdom and kindness.
