Comma Short Story Course #19

Plan: Short Stories from the Longest Year

Rate this book
These pieces were all written on the Comma Press Short Story Course facilitated by Michelle Green, which was taking place in person at the Bluecoat in Liverpool before becoming an online short story course, due to the COVid-19 pandemic. The group met for six sessions. Each session involved some critique from peers and the tutor of their own work, a close look at examples of stories from other writers as well as theory and practice of the craft.

Ended All Too Soon

I chose to rate this collection 5 stars due to the overall literary quality contained herein. While all of the short stories here are remarkable and original, and have left me hungry for more from all participating authors present, 'The Harvest' stands out as having that something extra, that eerie dread that kindled memories of old horror stories, from collections surreptitiously purloined from parents and read at night beneath bedclothes by torchlight. Like a clicking, skittering Lovecraftian nightmare, it kept me awake after reading, and that doesnt happen anywhere near frequently enough these days.
