About the author

E.E. Isherwood has been a storyteller for over 30 years. Initially the muse took the form of childish comic strips. As a teen it manifested itself under the guise of Dungeons and Dragons adventures. In college it culminated with a Master's thesis on Missouri geography—an extremely boring kind of story. Three decades and several careers later he realized that siren song never stopped, so he began to author books. A life-long enthusiast of apocalyptic fiction, writing about zombies was his passion. Future titles in science fiction and fantasy are in the hopper. He lives in the St. Louis, Missouri area, where his series of zombie books takes place.

This was a fantastic series that was very professionally written, and this author definitely needs to compliment his editor, as for a refreshing change, I did not notice a single grammatical error in all five books, and after reading as many Kindle books as I have, the normal seems to be just throw it out there without any sort of editing at all and let the feeding frenzy begin. Mr. Isherwood, thank you for having your work edited. It has been such a refreshing change. What did aggravate me was the author's fear of the F-bomb. Who would ever believe a sailor would be running down the passageway of the USS John F. Kennedy yelling, "We're under effing attack!" There are many other examples of the author's fear, as in his world, people always say, "What the eff!" and "I can't effing believe this shit!" Please, either use the F-bomb, or take it completely out. No One runs around talking like that. It was distracting for me over the silliness of such fear of a word. But overall, I looked past that ridiculousness and will say, this entire series does deserve a 5-star rating. Yes, the plot gets weird at times, and some things stand out as totally unbelievable, but this is a work of fiction and taking liberties with such things is completely acceptable in the world of fiction writing. Thank you, Mr. Isherwood, for writing this. I do find myself hoping you will revisit our cast of characters in the future, as you stated was entirely possible. I would definitely love to read that.

A promising premise falls flat

The premise was presented of the effects on the world if the United States of America was removed abruptly from the world. After the event, the premise falls by the wayside. It becomes a humourless tale with a ridiculous villain. David starts out seeming like an even more arrogant version of Elon Musk, but eventually seems more like a caricature of Dr. Evil without being fun or really consequential beyond his mass murder of more 400 million Americans and Canadians. There are very brief references to the rest of the world, but nothing much beyond locations.

What happens immediately to the global economy? What happens to China and India? What happens to individual Americans living outside the U.S.? How can less than a million survivors hold onto the territory of the U.S.?

Honestly by the end, the only characters for whom I continued to like were Dwight, Poppy, and Deogie.

Good read

I generally dislike books that jump between groups of people as it gets a little confusing. But this was a really good book. Very different as a apocalyptic book. The characters were interesting and fun to read about. There were a lot of hinted at ideas in the book that were not explained and kinda left you hanging and that leaves the brain spinning and trying to guess what really happened (which could dive some people a little crazy) but over all a good and fun book to read.

Good Read

Great adventure told by a good writer. Very few spelling or grammatical errors,this alone makes this story fun to read. Now top that off with a tale told by someone who obviously did a thorough job of research. Aircraft,weapons,vehicles,aircraft carriers,locations and conditions have all been thought out and
carefully crafted to enhance the character’s trials. And speaking of characters, this is written from the point of view of believable men and women heroic and flawed. I have enjoyed reading these books and plan to read more of Mr. Isherwood’s works.

Kept me on the edge of my seat!

I loved these books, I read all three in one day. The story was an entirely different slant on the apocalypse theme. The characters were interesting and engaging and the ending was perfect. It left open the mystery of Dwight and his bird, but was a satisfying end. However, I for one wouldn't mind one final book to show the elimination of the rest of David's cult and the rebuilding of America .

Enjoyed the series

Liked the idea of this story and enjoyed the characters . Did feel as though it went a little cheesy in places towards the end but others may like this .
Without spoiler alerting I was left asking questions so possible stories to continue to explore other avenues which would be interesting and worth a visit .

Minus America=America the Beutiful

Mr Isherwood has brought a new face to the tragic end of the USA. A programmer, a teenage deep mine tour guide, a second level pilot from the VPs plane ( I didn’t know it was called Air Force Two), and a street alcoholic are meticulously blended together in the “end of the US” novel that challenges us with 95% of the US population disappearing in the twinkling of the eye.

5 books of escapism entertainment

I thoroughly enjoyed this daredevil rollercoaster series. A rich madman has an annihilating weapon of mass destruction which he is using to destroy America. The Vice-president and various other people survive and fight back.
Very farfetched but I let myself slip along and it was fun.

Amazing Roller Coaster Ride

The storyline was unique & interesting ( no spoilers) but very plausible. Each book flowed into the next with no lost intensity. At the end of the series, all the characters are like your family. Great book!

I was surprised that I enjoyed this book. There was a lot of violence, but it fit the scenario.
Nice to read something other than EMO catastrophes. Some good characters, some not so good.

Die Handlung beschreibt wie einige wenige Überlebende dieses rätselhafte Geschehen erleben.
Der Blickwinkel springt ständig von einer Person zur nächsten und von einem Ort zum anderen.
Dadurch ergeben sich zahlreiche Cliffhanger.
Einige Personen irren tagelang durch menschenleere Städte. Andere befinden sich fast sofort im Kampf mir bewaffneten Feinden. Die Herkunft der Gegner und deren Absichten sind zunächst unklar. Aber offenbar kann man fast niemandem vertrauen, denn unter den Überlebenden verstecken sich auch Verräter. Dieser Umstand gibt dem Geschehen einen gehörigen Schub Paranoia.

Der Author beschreibt nur die Gedankenwelt der "Guten", nicht die ihrer Gegner.
Die Wege der Helden kreuzen sich dabei scheinbar willkürlich. Es ist oft verblüffend wie unkoordinierte Gruppen "zufällig" am rechten Ort und zur rechten Zeit aufeinander treffen.
Im Allgemeinen herrscht auch kein Mangel an Waffen und Fahrzeugen. "... free for the taking."

Der Kern der Protagonisten zeicnet sich darurch aus, dass er nie die Hoffnung aufgibt, über sich selbst hinauswächst, gefährliche Schußwechsel und atemberaubende Stunts übersteht und trotz allerlei Verletzungen immer weitermacht.
Eine bunte Mischung von Charakteren, die teileise recht humorvolle Sprüche von sich gibt.

Das Geschehen bleibt bis zum Schluß spanned, die Handlung erstreckt sich dabei über nicht viel mehr als 10 Tage.
Aber: Wenn es so ab dem letzen Drittel der Geschichte an die Überwindung der Feinde geht und das Wie und Warum "erklärt" wird, muss der Leser doch einige Kröten schlucken. Es schleichen sich immer mehr Logik-Fehler ein und auch der Bösewicht und seine Schergen wirken nicht überzeugend.

very clever plotting and a thrill a minute

even making it to the end, I was prompted to speculate on what actually happened, a good challenge. a great title choice,too. yes, the expected group of thrown together characters save the world, but in unexpected ways. one way was saving a tour lost in a cave. this subplot For ME had special meaning because it really happened to me. in the mid sixties my grandmother, mom, and aunt and the early teen girl, me, took a cave tour in Alabama when there was a whole state power outage. it was exactly like an EMP. eight tourists and a guide with one flashlight were at the back of a long cave that had inadequate handrails around deep pits in the pitch dark. we sat down and waited for rescue. the guide took the light and went for help and we waited. the staff in the building assumed all tours had finished before the outage and had locked up and gone home to wait for the power to come back on. we waited sitting on the floor in the dark. the guide had warned us about the cave bugs, blind transparent water bugs with long antenna, but didn't want for us to panic. well, a few did crawl on our skin and a few of us freaked out, but no one went running screaming off to fall in a pit, luckily. t he guide walked to town and raised a rescue party and the mine boss with the keys to the power box. the power had been restored in the area, but was not on to the mine. so the switch was thrown, the lights came on, and staff came back to lead us out. when my grandmother emerged she said "great plot for a book, but I want my money back". it was quite the experience, but none of us ever went on a cave tour again. Isherwood throwing in the water trial was wonderful. keep think up even more escapes by resourceful average people with skills and imagination, loved your book.

The book series starts off with a great hook and it never lets up. The author keeps the story going at a rapid pace and I flew through all 5 books. The reader follows multiple characters and story lines over the course of the series, and I felt connected to all of the main characters and was invested in each of their stories throughout.

The series had a satisfying ending, but it also left me interested in future adventures from some of the characters.

The books walk the line of plausible and fantastical really well. Every plot twist or solution felt realistic within the world created by the author. There were very few eye rolling moments which can be common in sci-fi stories. Everything felt real.

I would recommend this book series for a wide audience, not just those interested in Sci-fi or post apocalyptic stories. The characters are diverse and nearly every reader will find someone they can identify with during the entire story.

I highly recommend this series.
