Follow the life of Distinguished Service Cross recipient, Sgt. Dale Rex, as he battles his way through Horseshoe Woods along the banks of the Moselle River in France. Sgt. Rex's heroic efforts saved hundreds of American soldiers and played a major role in winning against the tyranny of Nazi Germany. His life and death in battle are the reasons we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have today. This book honors his memory and the memories of others like him who gave their all for all of us.
My dad recommended this book to me. He read it in his book club and couldn't help but cry as he told me the story of this young man. Having heard stories from his own father who was the same age of this man and also fought in WW2, it brought back memories of what had been shared with him. This story of a remarkable young man whose faith in his God, love for his family and patriotism inspired me.
Such an amazing story of a hero from my own hometown. Dales story show what a true grit hero he really was. Showing love for his family, country, and God. I loved this book.
I have studied World War II from many angles, but this is the first in depth look at one soldier's experience in France. Focused on the Battle of the Bulge from the perspective of a family hero, it's uniquely engaging. His heroism inspired a generation of Dale namesakes in his small Utah town.
