When a high value scientist is taken hostage inside the galaxy's most dangerous prison, Halek Cain is the only man for the job.
The last remaining survivor of the Reaper program, Hal is an unstoppable force of fuel and madness. A veteran amputee-turned-cyborg, he has a history of violence and a talent for killing that is unmatched by any soldier.
With the promise of freedom as his only incentive, he’ll stop at nothing to earn back his life from the people who made him, imprisoned him, and were too afraid to let him die.
Experience this exciting beginning to a brand new series set in the Renegade Star universe. If you're a fan of Escape from New York, Renegade Star, or Deus Ex, you'll love this epic, scifi thriller.
With over 2,000 pages of adrenaline fueled action, this set includes the first six books in the Last Reaper series.
1. The Last Reaper 2. Fear the Reaper 3. Blade of the Reaper 4. Wings of the Reaper 5. Flight of the Reaper 6. Wrath of the Reaper
Wow it's like the opening credits of Deadpool, the broken hero, the moody teen, the deceitful scientists, the mad villain, the stoic monk, the snarky AI.... Honestly didn't think I would make it through the first book which was nothing but a never ending running fight on a space station. Our hero runs into e scientist and his moody daughter, the experiment, which he is trying to save or not depending on the paragraph. Enter book two, pretty much the same with the addition of a couple of new characters, more moody teen and snarky dialogue and finally book three, add more villains and dialogue which was tiresome in the first book.
This pretty much repeats itself through the rest of the series as the hero manages to save one group after another with minimal help. Oh most of this happens in space on ships which apparently use almost no fuel or provisioning no matter how much time passes or how large a crew.
Props for never calling a magazine a clip so there's that. Once again physics and other bits of science are ignored as our team travels through slip tunnels to their next adventure.
I've read much worse but if you are expecting the award winning writing claimed in the blurb you will de disappointed.
Great space opera. Porter brings the characters alive in his narration. He IS the voice of Halek Cain now. It's kind of hard to listen to Porter narrate other books now as his narration immediately brings to mind this book. (It was my first audiobook narrated by Ray Porter).
I've read some other reviews that say this is a YA book but I'm not sure I share that opinion. There is a teen in it but the main character is Halek Cain. He becomes a sort of uncle/father/mentor to her so there is a lot of interaction. But there are a host of other characters that are seriously great.
The book's were a great read which I really enjoyed. The characters are cool with lot's of humorous interplay between them. A gripping storyline with all the action you could hope for. I found myself unable to put my kindle down and even unable to sleep because I wanted to know what happened next !!!
This is a fast paced rush through a well thought out universe. I found myself getting to care for the characters. Yes it is basically a young adult book. Not very much in the way of romance. But what a ride you go through. I highly recommend this book. But I warn you , sleep will not come easy.
Absolutely enjoyed this series. Had to force myself to stop reading so I could go to bed or complete chores I had. Kept me excited to read the next book.
