Throughout your existence, there are angels in your presence. But it’s your actions that cause those angels to either praise you or disgrace you. Through this book, we will explore the actions that invite these blessed unseen beings to pray upon you, and carry your name and mention to the One who created us all.
Imam Omar Suleiman is the Founder and President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, and an Adjunct Professor of Islamic Studies in the Graduate Liberal Studies Program at SMU (Southern Methodist University). He is also the Resident Scholar at Valley Ranch Islamic Center and Co-Chair Emeritus of Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square.
This was so beautifull. It pointed out the little things we can do to get more rewards and how Angels are usually involved in so many acts. You could be sleeping and the whole time, the Angels would be praying for your forgiveness if only you make that ONE little dua before going to bed. Some of the tricks in here are soo little but meaningful at the same time its beautiful.
We might know and believe the existence of angels, but most of us might not know their significance to our life in this world and the hereafter. In each chapters of this book, the Angels and their responsibilities are told. And fair to say that we are never alone not just because Allah is always watching, but there's Angels around us doing their things, especially these two Angels that Allah had sent to document our good and bad deeds.
Imam Omar has written this book in the most beautiful way and easily comprehensible. I actually cried in one particular chapter about when we are witnessing someone departed from this world, Allah sent an Angel down to say aamiin to the things we said about the deceased and the du'as we made for them. This is an important reminder that is crucial to ne remembered because whatever we said, good or bad is being taken into account by the Angels. So, always be mindful when you're talking about the deceased when you're actually there either witnessing them drawing their last breath firsthand or not.
Overall, this book is such a beneficial book to get to know more about the Angels that has been around us literally 24/7 and their responsibilities.
A beautiful book that gives a greater and better insight into the roles of angels in our lives. We are surrounded by angels all the time and different angels have different duties towards the servants of Allah. The book explains the perspective of the presence of angels; for example, the two angels, one on the right and one on the left are among us at all times, while one angel stays with us through the day and the other through the night. Similarly, there is an angel of death, an angel that blows life into a human being, angels that pray for us, angels that protect us and many more. The angels have an important part in our daily lives but we forget that they are our companions or never pay attention. The author puts light on this creation of Allah so we can remember them and be grateful to Allah for the invisible yet powerful protection of the angels. Omer Suleiman nicely explains all kinds of angels and their responsibilities in the light of the Quran and Hadith. The language of this book is easy and simple to understand and comprehend. A very thought-provoking and beneficial read.
(5⭐️) so precious 😭 I knew angels were important in Islam but actually reading the details and realizing how many angels there are for different roles just hits different, and truly realizing how we have such limited sight, I can’t imagine how many angels there are that we can’t see. Such a short but knowledgeable read 🫶🏻 and there’s also YouTube videos and podcast for this book.
It's written in a very accessible style and has very short chapters so you can dip in and out of it.
It highlights how Angels are with us at every moment of life and death.
The book explains the hidden mystery of Angels and Devils that we cannot see but that exist without our knowledge.
The only thing I didn't like was that it got a bit repetitive at points and I would have liked more on the Angels themselves, how they were created and what their lives are like from what we know.
Given this is based on a popular Youtube series that Sheikh Suleiman has done, I think you can either read the book or listen to the series.
This book was just a written form of Omar Suleiman's Ramadan series on angels. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a straight transcription of his words in the videos. However, that is not to say the book is worthless or useless. I appreciate the physical form of his series because I was able to take notes from it and use it for my own projects.
Alhamdulillah, this book is a blessing and I have benefitted from it. I watched his video series and benefitted from that too, but now, being able to read it for myself, reflect on it, and write my own thoughts on what I read allowed me to obtain further benefit, Alhamdulillah.
Of course you can just watch the video series and gain the same knowledge, but it's a good reference for students of ilm.
In 30 short chapters, Dr Omar Suleyman remind us how angels accompany, protect, and pray for us in different scenarios. The author inspire us to take every opportunity available to have these angels invoke blessings upon us.
Here are some highlight I'd like to write here as a reminder for me.
1. We have 4 angels accompany us : 2 angels protect US while 2 othera recording our deeds. They are always with US in every significant and unsignificant moments. So, don't forget to pray to Allah SWT, recite ayyatul Kursi etc
2. When a person first commit a sin, Allah SWT Commands the angels to hold their pen for 6 period of times, if the person repent within 6 period times, Allah Commands the angels to replace the sins record with the good deeds record.
3. A sin is written down as one sin if the person actually comitted it, while the good deeds will written ten times minimum up to 700, up to whatever Allah SWT decree
4. The angels pray for a person in sahoor time, we have the blessings even the fasting began. So don't miss it. The angels also pray for a person who us fasting while the others not ( Sunnah fasting).
5. Throughout the day shaytan whisper to you and prompts you toward evil and promise you poverty and tragedy and the angels prompt you toward good deeds and to the promise of Allah SWT, so we are constantly pulled between these influences. Regarding night time, angels Will prompt us to end our night well, end our night well while shaytan will prompt us to end our night in evil. And remember GOOD DEEDS AS ACTION ARE JUDGE BY THEIR ENDING. Recommendation : taking wudu and recite Ayat Kursi, remembrance, reading Qur'an etc. The angel Will seeking forgiveness for us throughout the night because our wudu and ayat kursi will made the angel guard us until the morning.
6. Pray fajr and asar in congregation. It'a time for change shift for angels. Allah Will ask the angels : "How did you find my servant ?", they replied :"We left them while they in a state of prayer and we come to them when they in a state of prayer."
A lovely little book on the role the angels play in our lives.
‘The Prophet (PBUH) said, “When a person is ill, Allah sends two angels to accompany that person in their illness.”
…if you are unwell and someone asks how you are, you have two choices. You may choose to complain and talk about how bad you feel or you may say Alhamdulilah, praise be to Allah, for what I still have. If you describe your situation, it is only for the sake of giving an accurate picture of what you are experiencing and to reiterate, Alhamdulilah, all praise and thanks are due to Allah for what He has spared me in the midst of this sickness.
Whichever response you choose will be recorded by the angels and reported to Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “They look at what he says to his visitors. If he praises Allah and lauds Him when they come to him, they take that up to Allah, and Allah responds with these words:
“If I cause my slave to die as a result of this illness, then I will surely grant that person a garden in Jannah. Should I heal my slave, then I will replace their flesh with better flesh and their blood with better blood and I will efface their evil actions.”’
This truly, deeply lightened my soul and heart. To know and imagine the angels all around us, aiding us and seeking the rewards of our prayers as well. It is so uplifting and one of my favorite books thus far from Sh. Omar’s collection. Thank you for your heart warming and thought provoking series.
A truly wonderful and heart warming read during this blessed month of Ramadan. More so, within this last ten nights of Ramadan. May Allah SWT bless me , my family, all who vow for Allah's Favor, humbly requesting for Paradise, with Lailat Al Qadr. Aamin.
This is one of my favourites in Omar Suleiman’s series of books. A great reminder of how involved the angels are in our daily lives and how they contribute to the erasure of our sins. Especially when we usually think of only the darker side of the ‘unseen’, there is also closure in knowing that good awaits us and hopes for us to get closer to Allah (SWT). My favourite chapters were: ‘Your breath in prayer’, ‘The ultimate healer’ and ‘The first rows’.
Lovely little book full of interesting facts about the angels who accompany us and their blessings. Will definitely re read over the years as much as I can as a reminder
Love this book! There’s so much I didn’t know about angels, and Alhamdulilah for this book. It really gave me the knowledge I was missing. I recommend it to everyone.
I always love to read and hear about the angels. They are such a beautiful creation that Allah SWT has created ever for me. Hence, when I watch this video series by Imam Omar Suleiman, I'm so convinced to buy the physical book even though the contents are same.
I really love the way Imam Omar Suleiman told us about the angels. Did you know there are angels who hold a banner everytime you go out to somewhere? Did you know you have four angels guarding you? Did you know when Allah loves you, Jibril AS and all inhabitants of the Heavens too, will love you? And much more.
The language used too are relaxing, so it's really suitable to be a light reading to both adults and teenagers.
My favourite chapters on this book are definitely chapter eight where Imam Omar Suleiman told about responding to your haters, chapter 26 about Jibril AS and the last chapter, chapter 30; When Allah Loves You.
Thus, I highly recommended this book to every Muslim out there to seek more knowledge about the angels.
(P/S: Season 2 of Angels In Your Presence is coming soon! I'm so excited to watch it!)
Once again, Dr. Omar Suleiman's book exceeded my expectations. This book was absolutely beautiful. If you've seen his Ramadan series, you know that the books he's been publishing have been inspired by those series. This book not only uplifts your mood, it also boosts your spirituality and imagination in ways I did not expect. I highly recommend reading this book. I'm sure I'll keep reading this book over and over again to remind myself of the beautiful stories, ahadith and Qur'an verses linked to the Angels.
· You are raised on the Day of Judgment with an angel that drives you out and an angel that bears witness for or against you
· each of us has only one shayṭān and four angels assigned to them; of the four angels, two of them protect you and the other two angels record your deeds
· The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned: when you are reminded of Allah (glorified and exalted is He) when you are about to commit a sin, do not ignore your conscience (taqwa).
· The mercy of your Lord (glorified and exalted is He) is such, that even as the angels on the left and right of you are recording your deeds at all times, Allah (glorified and exalted is He) shows leniency through the one on the left and says, ‘Hold your pen and see if my servant will turn back to Me, see if he will wake up in the midst of that moment and decide that this is not something he ever wants to do again’.
· just by making wuḍū’, you have an angel that seeks forgiveness for you throughout the night and just by reciting Āyat al-Kursī, you have an angel that stands guard for you until the morning. In each case you have ended your night well.
· As you say Bismillāh, they say in the name of Allah you’ve been guided, and when you say I’ve put my full trust in Allah (glorified and exalted is He), they say you’ve been defended against anyone that is going to try to harm you. And when you say there is no power or might except which belongs to Allah (glorified and exalted is He), they say and you’ve been protected from all harm for the day. At this point, the two devils that arrive to attack you ask one another, ‘what can we do with a person who’s been guided, defended, and protected?’
· So, as you leave your home each day and you state your remembrance, do not just mouth the words. Renew your intention to do good in the world and refresh it throughout the day so you can maintain the humility that is beloved of Allah
· Imam Ghazālī said, ‘The greatest test of of good character, is how a person deals with someone with bad character’. That is when the flaws of the tongue come out, when the flaws of character, and the flaws of the heart manifest themselves
· Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘Strength is not how you overcome another person, strength is actually how you overcome yourself’
· By covering all the different facets of dua for several people, at the same time, you are also covering these aspects of your life because when you are praying for health, wealth and family, the angel is saying, ‘amin’ for you as well. That is then written on your record, increasing your sincerity and your station with Allah
· when you are sick and respond to your illness with patience, it is not just the reward of Allah (glorified and exalted is He) that is with you, but Allah (glorified and exalted is He) Himself that is by your side.
· You are entering into prayer in your bedroom or living room or wherever else it is, thinking you are alone, when in fact there are angels the size of mountains that are praying behind you
· Hadith-e-Qudsi: ‘I am as my servant expects of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me. So if he remembers Me inwardly, I remember him inwardly, and if he remembers Me in an assembly, I remember him in a greater assembly’, meaning the assembly of the angels.
· It is only logical that the love that originates from Allah (glorified and exalted is He) shows itself amongst the righteous people who love you for your righteousness.
· As Ibn al-Jawzī (May Allah be pleased with him) said ‘If people are impressed by you, know that they are impressed by the hijab, the cover that Allah (glorified and exalted is He) has given you because they don’t really know you’ and the reality is that people have to love you for a righteousness that is actually true of you, not merely what is on the surface.
Duas for Recitation
· As you are entering into the world, say ‘In the name of Allah (glorified and exalted is He), I’ve put my trust in Allah (glorified and exalted is He) and there is no power or might except that which is with Allah (glorified and exalted is He)
· “O Allah! Forgive Abū Salamah , and raise his station, make his station high amongst Your rightly guided servants, and expand his grave, and put light in his expansive grave, and take of the descendants whom he’s left behind, to make them pious, and take care of them.”
Omar Suleman is an avid preacher who is also the chairman of Yaqeen Institute. He enthusiastically endeavors for the spread of truth in the societies, otherwise ignorant of the light of Islam. In this book he has elaborated the interaction of angels with mankind. As per his book, the angels are constantly interacting with the human beings as per the orders of Allah Ta’ala. He explains multiple occasions when the angels are close to the humans to such an extent that it literally appears that the entire human life is being monitored by angels. However, other than a few notable references the book is more of a reading material for children learning the basics of Islam and lacks developing interest of the reader. But in a nutshell, its gist can be summarized such as that (a) Life is an constant war, a simulated practical exam to segregate the obedients' from the dis-obedients of Allah. So one must avoid sins and defeat Satan in each and every thought and deed. It can only be accomplished through a high degree of Faith which is the most potent form of energy developed by shunning the lures of Nafs (base-self). (b) To follow Islam as a Code of Conduct for life in each and every act to please Allah and earn/ win Jannat-ul-Firdous. Ensure the enrichment of blood(line) with honor and its purification to match the likes of Ahl-e-Bait through obedience of Allah and development/ elevation of family. (c) Remember that abstention of sins from youth is the habit of prophets and same elevates the status of humans before Allah Ta’ala.
"Strive to gain the love of Allah s.w.t and anyone whose love is worth having will follow. If your Lord loves you, the angels will love you, and the people in this world whose love is worth having will love you as well." - Angels in Your Presence by Omar Suleiman
It is such a luxury that Kube Publishing has graciously transcribed and published the book versions of Yaqeen Institute's yearly Ramadan series, which I always enjoy watching. Though I am more of a reader than an audience, and it is truly a privilege to be able to leaf through the series.
Angels in Your Presence details the different ways that our paths and that of the angels might intertwine in our daily lives. It is a beautiful collection of the hadith and verses of the Qur'an that speaks of how Allah's love for us can also be seen from the ways the angels would watch over us and even love us. I especially love the way each chapter is pretty concise and succinct, which makes reading this book such a breeze.
Above all, there is a very inspirational element to this book, in the way it approaches the many ways that the angels play a huge part in adherence to the Qadr of Allah. Omar Suleiman details the significance of angels in such an enlightening way, which makes the reader's love for Allah and His angels heighten, soar and hopefully, be the pathway for his journey to Jannah.
"Angels in Your Presence" is an enriching and thought-provoking book that brilliantly intertwines Islamic teachings with everyday experiences through the lens of angelic interactions with us and with Allah عز وجل.
This book is full of hadiths that I just knew about angels and how Allah عز وجل gives us so much blessings through the presence of the angels around us. This compelling read is structured in short, concise chapters, making complex religious concepts both accessible and engaging.
"Angels in Your Presence" does more than just recount stories; it invites readers to recognize and reflect on the subtle signs of angelic guidance in their own lives.
With each chapter, Ust. Omar gently guides the reader towards a greater awareness of the interconnectedness of creation as seen through the teachings of Islam, fostering a deeper spiritual awareness and a renewed faith in Allah عز وجل.
A very heartwarming book but also full of knowledge that this book will motivate us to be a better person and to make our worship better whenever we’re facing Allah عز وجل.
I’m glad that Allah عز وجل made me read this book. Such a life-changing one. Alhamdulillah 🫶🏻
Read this if: You want to know new knowledge about the angels and you like Omar Suleiman’s teachings.
This book is a gift from my sister on my birthday. I savour each chapter for my bedtime read. It brings me tranquillity when I read about how the angels are always around to safeguard my every. Most of the time, it lifts my spirit to be a better person when I wake up the following day.
Omar Suleiman is eloquently gifted with heartwarming, moving words that could touch the deepest part of your soul. He describes the angels’ roles in our lives beautifully and instils gratitude in you for all the blessings Allah has provided us through his angels.
Above all, the angels are also pray for us. What is more lovely than having the angels saying amin to your doas? I was making mental notes while reading regarding the opportunities I should seize to have the angels pray for my loved ones and me.
This is a beautiful gift indeed. Thank you so much, Adik. 🤍
Picked this up while I was in Toronto for the end of Ramadan and E'id al-Fitr with my in-laws. This year, I wanted to make a more conscious effort to continue the good habits we often practice in Ramadan, but so often let fall away afterwards. The last few years, Omar Suleiman's video series have been a big part of my routine, sometimes at Suhur time when I was along or with my mom or just during iftar.
Anyways, this is a great read and like a previous publication that I have, Prayers of the Pious, it's beautifully constructed, with chapters that progress naturally into how angels are so integrated into our everyday lives. This book will definitely help me jump start the effort into making the period until next Ramadan more fruitful insha'Allah.
Loved this book a lot. How often we forget that we are surrounded by angels: witnessing, recording, protecting...
A beautiful reminder of angels around us and their roles all in a concise little book. I learned so many things too. A few memorable lines among many:
'' There is such a difference between the person who takes time to declutter their mind and prepare themselves before prayer and someone who just rushes into it between other activities.''
''To defend your brother or sister in their absence is one thing, but to pray for them behind their back is another.''
''Instead of accessing knowledge online, why not make the physical effort to go out and seek that knowledge?''
I savoured every chapter for each day of Ramadan. It was amazing. There was never a day I didn't want to read or ever a moment when I was reading that I did not feel something special inside me. This book not only educates you on Angels and the mercy of Allah (swt) but for me it brought me closer to Allah (swt). It has helped me find some kushu in my Salah and has made me more aware of everything that I am doing so I can reap the love of the Angels through the love of Allah (SWT).
baca versi terjemahan Angels in Your Presence yang baru diterbitkan Gema Insani ini, sambil dengerin ulang seriesnya, just to grasp more good-feeling, warm feeling of reading all of the beautiful explanation that Sheikh Omar Suleiman shares about angels around us.
ohiya, tentang terjemahannya sendiri, cukup enak dibaca. well done. this kind of book is really need to reach more reader. strongly recommended book!
A thought provoking, eye opening and amazing book rich with all the information of the God's magnificent creatures i.e the angels. The author has done a tremendous job in explaining about these wonderful beings in the most simplest, engaging and complete way. It will leave anyone amazed, moved and utterly inspired. A must-read!
