Adventure is Ruby’s greatest dream, and Prince Samuel is the only one who can make her dream come true.

Ruby Trent grew up listening to tales her father told her of grand adventures, and his stories made her dream of the day she could do the same. Years passed. She lost her father, and the family wealth, but her dream lives on. Now employed as a maid at the palace, she comes up with a plan to finally make her dreams reality. The prince of the neighboring kingdom is staying at the castle on a visit, and he’s known far and wide throughout the kingdoms for the daring and exciting adventures he sets out on. When the prince allows her to join him on his upcoming journey, Ruby finally lives the adventure she’s only ever dreamed of. The journey is filled with mystery, magic, and dangers that threaten her life at every turn, but as she spends more time with the handsome, young prince, she soon discovers the thing that’s in the most danger is her heart.

Excerpt:
“Do you need something?” he asked at the same time that she burst out, “Could I come along?”
Samuel stared at the maid, and it took him a moment to find his voice. “No,” he stated firmly, leaving no room for argument. “I’m the only one who’s going on this journey. Another person would just slow me down. Besides, it wouldn’t be right.”
Ruby knotted her fingers together. “Please? It’s always been my dream to go on an adventure, to see wonders and kingdoms outside of my own.”
Samuel could only shake his head at the eager young woman. He rubbed a hand over his smooth jaw and blew out a long breath. What is this girl thinking? Is she crazy? He wondered to himself, but he could see the yearning for adventure gleaming so evidently in her brown eyes, and it was like he was looking into a mirror. It was the same yearning that he felt all those years ago before he went on his first adventure—the same longing he still possessed. He inwardly groaned. I’m going to regret this in the morning. “All right. You can come."

Ruby Treasure is a loosely based retelling of Cinderella. It’s the second book in the Tales of Happily Ever After series, and it can be read as part of the series or as a standalone. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys lighthearted fantasy adventures and fairy tales with clean romance and humor.

This is probably my favorite Cinderella story retelling ever. It was told in a way that was light and whimsical like a fairy tale should be. Yet it had unique elements that tied into the classic story we all know. It didn't drag on or have awkward moments. There was just enough magic, mystery, and romance to keep me turning pages eagerly.

Can I talk about Samuel? OMG! I was captivated by him from the first hint of his dragon side. I may be a sucker for a dragon character but Samuel was much more. Such a sweet and kind soul with the heart of a dragon. Definitely my kind of prince charming. Dragon shifters always win me over, but Samuel was so caring and such a gentleman. We need more Samuel's in this world.

Ruby was a fascinating version of Cinderella and I loved her 'go for it or you'll regret it' attitude. I liked that she didn't hesitate to go after the adventure she always dreamed of.

The way the author ties together the classic fairy tales in her series is cute and magical. This was book 2 but it's great that you do not have to read them in order to be captured by the story. This one was my favorite so far and I look forward to the next one, which I suspect will be a fun twist to Robin Hood. I can't wait to find out.

I really enjoyed this story, probably even more than the first one. It has two things that I really enjoy: dragons and cinderella-esque themes. It left me with many questions though so I am excited for the next book. The romance was sweet and I found myself smiling at Ruby and Samuel's moments many times. The author uses lots of descriptive language and I felt like I was there sometimes with how well the words helped me picture the different settings. Again, I am excited for the next one.

Don't skip the author's note at the end!

This was a sweet tale and good rendition of Cinderella mixed with other elements. I loved the author's unique twist on a certain character, and that's all I can say without going into spoilers. Many plots were left open-ended, and I got to the last 10% of the book panicking about how the author was going to explain so many things until I read the author's note stating there will be another book continuing the story. I'm eager to see how Drake's writing improves in that, as this book didn't get full stars due to some amateur and cliche composition. I still enjoyed the adventure!

It's rare anymore that you find a book that hooks you from the beginning and sweeps you away. It's been nearly years since that has happened to me with a book. For a while reading became something I no longer enjoyed because I was being sent so many average books that were poorly pieced together or edited.

Drake's Ruby Treasure is none of those things. It is a beautifully written clean YA romance with a main character named Ruby that has red hair. The story revolves around the search for hidden treasure while on a quest so it reads like Shrek without the sexual innuendos and crude jokes. Unlike Shrek, it's got twists, turns, and a fresh realness of what it means to truly be adventuring with someone you just met. The plot never left me with any gaping holes, and the characters have realistic conversations.

Overall, Ruby Treasure was the best book I've read in 2022 thus far, and if you give it a chance, you too will find the treasure hidden between the covers.
