Listening Length: 4 hours and 53 minutes

I hate sports, and he is football royalty. I like quiet and predictable, but he's sex and swagger personified. I didn't particularly care for Saint Stevenson the first moment I laid eyes on him, but his warped brain seemed to process our initial meeting as foreplay.

I have a meticulous five year plan in place for myself and my career, but now this huge, cocky, self-absorbed quarterback who I've been assigned to at work is seriously f*cking it up.

He's the ultimate player on and off the field, and it doesn't make any sense that I'm falling hard and fast for the arrogant baller; but there doesn't seem to be anything about our love story that makes any sense at all.

Author's note: Gunslinger is a flirty, full-length, standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Gunslinger by Lisa Lang Blakeney is the first book in The Nighthawk Series.
It's a great start to the series.
The huge NFL player remembers the drunk women from 3years ago and is on a mission to get her 😍
It's a short easy read with plenty of sweetness and a little naughtiness.
Definitely recommend if you need something light and fluffy ♥️

Short but cute sports romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😮🙂🥰😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Saint (a.k.a. Gunslinger) - he is a 6’5” professional football quarterback. He was a shining star in college, won most of his games, won the Heismann trophy and was a first-round draft pick. Though since then he has been playing on team that loses much more than it wins. He is cocky and blames it on his teammates, saying he can’t win without his team backing him up. The defense doesn’t stop the other team and he doesn’t get enough time to throw the ball. He can’t wait until he is a free agent and can move to a better team.

The heroine: Sabrina - she works in the financial industry in New York, her company specializes in managing the financial portfolios of people in the music industry which she loves. She has had a crush on one of her co-workers since he started there over three years ago, but he doesn’t see her as anything but a co-worker.

The Story: a while ago on a company retreat after embarrassing herself in front of her crush who just started at the company, Sabrina went to the bar to get some dutch courage to talk to him again and ended up getting sloppy drunk. Saint met Sabrina at the bar that night and thought she was attractive even though she was talking about her crush on her co-worker. He ended up walking her to her room and putting her to bed. Three years later, he sees her again at a restaurant and decides he wants her.

Saint hires Sabrina’s company to manage his millions and they open a sports division, giving Sabrina his account since that was the only way he would sign the contract. So, despite hating football and athletes, she is stuck with him. I did like the premise though it seemed to take a while to get to it. I liked that Saint was so cocky at first but learns that he has to rely on himself and has to step up and take charge of his own destiny, if he wants his teammates to step up and protect him on the field.

This book was told in dual narration and was narrated by Jeremy York and Hayden Bishop. Jeremy York is a good narrator, though not one of my favorites. I think the voice should have been deeper for such a big man like Saint. I had the opposite problem with Hayden, her voice was too deep for my liking. She kinda reminded me of Emma Stone except for hers was even a bit deeper than Emma. Though it was scratchy like Emma’s voice, so it kept reminding me of Emma.

This story was a lot of things, but its best attribute is its uniqueness, in my opinion. At the heart of the story we have an unconventional love triangle. Not what you would normally expect from that kind of story, but a triangle none the less! And for me, it absolutely made the story because the three points of the triangle could not be more different! WHAT A FANTASTIC READ! There's also a sprinkle of second chances with a splash of the road less traveled... Put all of this together and you have yourself an intriguing and entertaining journey of two people who thought they knew what they wanted out of life but destiny had other plans :)

I have to say, Lisa Lang Blakeney created a really well developed world in this story. Both Sabrina and Saint stayed true to their characterization and they made sense. The story unfolded perfectly and made sense. Making sense is the number one requirement for a well executed story-line and this one made sense. And it was FUN. It will make your heart and girlie parts sing :) You will laugh and swoon and in between you will always smile.

My first read by Lisa Lang Blakeney and it will most definitely not be my last! I very much look forward to more from the secondary characters she entwined in this story and maybe some of her other works as well!

DNF around the half-way mark
Chapter Two was weird. It reads like you're listening to an audio recording. You don't know who it is that's speaking or what's physically happening other than a few 'sound' effects, like *CRASH!* and *sigh* and *WHAP!*.
And there are some weird phrases. *He eats, shits, and breathes football*. Shits? Really? And, *he smells like a mixture of water, earth and musk*. How does a person smell like water?
I didn't really care for Sabrina. She's bitchy to Saint for no real reason. She's been holding on to a three year crush on a guy who shows zero interest in her romantically and lets him treat her like a piece of furniture when they have their "working" dinners, she's overly stubborn in a way that seems very unprofessional, and she's a spaz! She's anxious all the freakin time, so, I wanna scream at her, "will you calm down!" whenever her narrative comes around.
At around the half-way point, I'm thinking I don't really like anyone in this book. The banter between the mcs is, I'm sure, supposed to be charming, but really isn't. They both seem like assholes. So, I'm gonna call it here, in the middle of chapter eleven. It wasn't horrible, but did nothing but annoy me.

Well this sucked. And there's no sex.

Sabrina (stupid, financial advisor) gets drunk one night after she embarrasses herself in front of her co-worker/office crush. In walks Saint Stevenson (superstar QB) who was just left at the alter. He's an upstanding guy and just makes sure Sabrina is returned safely to her hotel room.

Fast forward 3 years and Sabrina is STILL crushing on her co-worker. She hasn't made a move on him and he hasn't shown ANY interest in her. She still thinks he's the one. Saint sees her out one night and tries to put pseudo moves on her, she declines. He takes her business card and decides to pursue her as his financial advisor just so he can be with her. Well she's a real b!tch and insults him and rejects him at every turn. Why? Well she hates athletes, she refuses to cross the client boundary, and she only wants to manage a band.

First - you're telling me that she's SOOO big in her office (she's not) that she can afford to turn down a client worth millions?? No, we've already established she's trying to make a name for herself by landing a big client. Then you're telling me she has no issue crossing a coworker boundary, but is dead set against a client hookup? Plus - THREE YEARS LATER and that hooker still hasn't moved on??? How stupid is she!!! Notice I didn't put a question mark after that sentence because it doesn't need to be answer. She is epic stupid.

Then - they never have sex. There's one oral scene and then they're in love. The end.

Man - to this author F#CK YOU.

PS AUDIO the narrator waits a full 5 seconds between each line.
"hey, just wanted to see how you were doing today."
5 seconds later.
Saint smiles at her, "pretty good."
5 seconds later.
"wonderful" she says.

Super annoying. not a direct quote.

4 Star’s for Gunslinger

I am now a fan of Lisa Lang Blakeney!

Sports hunky, cocky, so sure of himself and freaking sexy name to boot.. Swoon !

Loved the meet! Love that she is this independent chick who has it all she is working in a field she loves and the first time they meet she is a little off her game. It was super cute and again I loved it!

I am not going to summarize the book read it! It’s fun and cute and just the right amount of sexy.

I would have loved to have more of their relationship not just there beginning.

I so would have given this baby a 5 star, but after all the tension and the back and forth which I think was freaking awesome. But when it came to them actually being a couple it felt almost rushed to be at the end of the book.

So what I am saying is I wanted MORE :D

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

The blurb is what had me picking this book up, it had me wanting to read more about Saint 'Gunslinger' Stevenson.
The opening chapter is Sabrina (the heroine) on a business dinner date with her co-worker who she has lusted after for 3 years, not only does he spend the entire time on the phone (what a douche) but he doesn't even know how she feels. Enter Saint Stevenson, QB for the New York Nighthawks and a cocky SOB.... After her date goes and gets the car Sabrina is left alone, uh oh big mistake. Saint makes his move, they have a bit of a moment in the restaurant where Sabrina ends up giving Saint a piece of her mind, thinking she will never see him again. But she couldn't have been more wrong.
Gunslinger is relentless in his pursuit of Sabrina, but the woman who showed a bit of a backbone in the restaurant is nowhere to be seen. She gives in to his advances very quickly, which was quite disappointing. There was so ways in where this story could've gone, I would've loved to have seen more of the love triangle that was evident and even maybe an appearance from Saint's ex who was mentioned a couple of times.

Even though there are 24 chapters and states it is a full length novel BUT ends at 50% due to there being a bonus book from her series. I feel that if it was a full length novel there would've been so much more intensity and angst and possibly could've stood out from all the other football books out there. 3.5**** for me, will be looking out for more from this author though.

An okay sports romance, but it could’ve been much better if it wasn’t so ridiculous. This couple literally made zero sense to me. I don’t understand why he all of a sudden was a one-woman kind of guy and what she saw in this man child. At the end of the story there could’ve been so many directions for a little angst, but none were taken. And don’t get me on those sex scenes. Which writer forgets to write their first proper full on sex scene? We only get oral and then a few chapters later it’s been a while since he’s been inside her. When did that happen? That scene was just skipped in total.

Safe read. Hero was a manwhore, real player but off page. We get a few references how he would take up on groupies offers. He turns one down after reuniting with heroine. She had 2 lovers before. No OW/OM drama, although a male co-worker causes some jealousy on hero’s part. No sex with OP or cheating.

Saint by Lisa Lang Blakeney is the first book in the Nighthawk series, which is a football romance.

The football player and the account manager, aka Saint and Sabrina. Their story starts with some chance encounters, but nothing more than some brief conversations until Saint can’t stop thinking about the woman who has no idea who he is, so it’s time to take a chance.

Not only doesn’t Sabrina remember their first encounter, she has no idea that Saint is a football player. But the moment he steps into her office, that attraction they’ve each felt before continues to slowly build.

Also, oh my gosh, the last paragraph of this story is sooooo swoon worthy! ld.

The story is dual POV’s from both Sabrina and Saint.

I had such hope for this book... I had pushed past Chapter 2 which was written strangely and tried to enjoy the story, but the pacing seemed off. At 71% they were still dancing around each other and then suddenly they are in love. What?!

This books has left me with conflicting feels. I enjoyed most of it. I loved the heroine. I liked the hero. He was also kind of a creeper. Some of the stuff he said just made me cringe. I don’t know what else to say.

This was too short! I wanted more!!

I laughed out loud a couple times listening to this. I really enjoyed Saint and Sabrina’s story. But I think my favorite part of the whole book was the last chapter, it jumped 2 years in the future and I loved it.

This was a feel good book. I love that Saint saw her and knew she was something special, then went after her. I loved how he teased her and wore her down. She didn’t want to like him but she also couldn’t help herself.

Also I liked that her job was different than a lot of heroines in sports romances specifically. I liked that she was a little bit of a nerdy numbers girl.

Also I loved the sound of the female narrators voice. She reminded me a lot of Emma Stone.

"C'è qualcosa in lei da cui sono totalmente attratto. Non è come le cacciatrici di dote che sono abituato a scopare o le modelle che uso come contentino. Riempire un vuoto nella sua vita con il mio successo non è abbastanza. Lei ha la sua vita. I suoi obiettivi e sogni.

SAINT STEVENSON ..... COCKY, FUN LOVING AND OH SO HOT!!!!!

I picked up this book thinking, what am I going to get here? I know nothing about American football - honestly I didn't need to! Lisa Lang Blakeney has written one SCORCHING HOT story that remained in this reader's hands from start to beginning. Nothing was important enough to stop me from reading it!!!

Sabrina White....non follower of any kind of sport, work for a financial company and she has a five year plan - to be at the top of her industry. Her other goal is to be able to manage the finances of her favourite band Spin. But these plans are thrown out the window when her company decides to throw her into the Sport's Division and manage one of the hottest footballers around, Saint Stevenson. A man who she has previously met and feels nothing but disdain for, but she doesn't realise who he is.

Saint Stevenson, stood up at the altar three years prior, meets and is instantly attracted to a woman at the local bar. He helps her out and can't stop thinking about her. Fast forward time to the present day when he meets her again. Yes the attraction is still there and she has no idea what exactly is about to hit her!!!!

Enough said, no spoilers here, what ensues is a wonderful story of one person chasing and the other trying to avoid being caught. Throw in a crush with a fellow worker and you have the classic, but unusual triangle. A stunningly HOT footballer and a NERDY office worker - what more could you ask for.

Saint charmed me in every way possible, the perfect gentleman (at times), the seductive male alpha and the man who wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted. Sabrina impressed me, she stuck to her guns and passed on all the tactics that Saint used in order to capture her. Simply brilliant.

This is the first book of Lisa's that I have read.....but I can tell you now, I am definitely a fan. Her style of writing was so easy to read. I could actually picture myself witnessing some of the events occurring, as if I was there. The karaoke scene and it's after effects is one not to be missed. Neither is the chicken scene at Saint's parent's home.

Congratulations Lisa on a wonderful story and truly unforgetable characters.

Definitely FIVE STARS from me!!!

"There's nothing more satisfying then eating a woman to climax. I have to stroke myself a couple of times just imagining it. I find myself doing that a lot lately since I've hired Sabrina."

5 satisfying stars!!! In true Lisa style this book is dirty, sexy and hot!!!

Oh Saint, Saint, Saint.... that man is sex on a stick. He's dirty, foul mouthed and everything you could ever want in a man. Well that's just my opinion of course!! Sabrina... she's a determined lady who's set on her plan and she won't let anyone get in her way. I loved her determination and her drive to focus on her five year plan. Too bad Saint has other plans for her!

I was seriously addicted to this book... I couldn't get enough and I had a hard time putting it down!!! It's dirty and packed full of heat, trust me when I say you'll need a new pair of pants after reading this book!

Famous QB Saint meets serious worker Sabrina in a bar after she’s downed three tequilas. They have a funny run in which she totally forgets. Three years later he runs into her again and falls for her instantly. After finding out where she works he sets himself up as a client and basically flirts/annoys her until she caves in.

I like Saint and Sabrina. They had good banter and seemed to fit well together. Sabrina was funny. I liked her. I enjoyed the storyline. It was light and engaging. There is a slight love triangle but not really a serious one.

I guess my only gripe was that it felt a bit slow at the start and a little rushed at the end. I found the hot scenes faded to black slightly on the key scene where they first got together and something about it felt a bit at odds with their characters. I felt Sabrina was too reserved to go from two kisses to suddenly stripping naked and putting on a show for Saint. Rewind! Where are the bits inbetween?

And I felt the slight dom angle they gave him didn’t quite fit. I think it was a weak point in the book.

Overall, it needed a more gradual build up heatwise, starting earlier than the 70% mark with more elaborate, thought out hot scenes.

But it was still a good read.

So i rarely right reviews but I wanted to explain my rating. I think this author has a lot of potential but this book was jut all wrong. I’ll ignore the typos and misused words but the story line was a mess. It started off good, I liked the characters and the premise, then I started to feel like get to the point let’s get into the juice like there was too much setting the stage and then plop here you go passion, turmoil marriage all in like the last 50 pages of the book. The heroine was strong and feisty but timid then out of nowhere she just gets naked and then she and the gunslinger are in love? The sex scenes and dirty talk were so not believable and just didn’t match the characters and then of course there were the very apparent nods/copy of FSOG possessiveness. It just didn’t work and it really could’ve with a little more depth into the love story, less preamble and a little more innovative heat scenes.

1st book i have ever read by Lisa Lang Blakeney & it was great, i was shocked by how short it was on my kindle it didn't even go to 100%?, there is a sample of another book at the end? i must admit i did google "gunslinger" & the definition is not what they said? or as what she said it would be about football? considering how up on football the world is, you would like it would be front and center. maybe google is not football nuts?!?!? maybe there are multiple answers???!!, I'll keep looking? catchy title and that cover, totally, what did pulled me in 1st. loved it, couldn't put it down, i would have read it in one chance or sitting, but didn't have the time to do so. i will be looking into more of her books very very soon. This was a quick easy read that was fun & actually had some sweet moments.
Saint has a filthy mouth but is hilariously arrogant
Sabrina is timid, stubborn but independent.
Together they are adorable.

Two things that bothered me in the story causing me to not give it more stars.

Saint being jilted at the alter
three years earlier just was very vague and he didn’t seem to upset by it.
Then that same night he meets a drunk Sabrina at the bar and is a nice guy who takes her back to her room, undressing her and tucking her into bed.

There’s not much I can really say about this book, where do I get started?
The beginning ok, good start. Seeing how he treats women, um.
Let’s just leave that there.
First half was good, the other was gross.
What can you expect from a 4 hour audio book.
The man has no feelings but all of a sudden he’s in love and so is she?? We were doing good so far.
Like WHY WE GOING SO FUCKING FAST?
The ending was cute, I didn’t really enjoy the characters, they made me uncomfortable.. a lot.
Would I recommend? Does a fish shit in the woods?
This was read as an audio book eh

I received an ARC for an honest review.
Firstly, I must say that I love this author’s work, and this one is certainly no different. Our main characters are Saint and Sabrina. Saint is a hot, sexy, flirty, bad boy. Sabrina decides to hate him on sight and finds him highly irritating. But is she immune to his charm and charisma?
This is a great story, and I loved the humorous situations. I highly recommend reading this book for yourself, and I cannot wait to read the next novella from Lisa.

I first tried reading this book in 2021 but quickly DNFed it because the FMC was just rude and too judgemental towards the MC for no other reason besides that he was a football player.. But I had to go to work today and wanted something to listen too so I decided to give it another chance and while I will up the Star rating from 1 to 3 I will admit that other then the writing being decent I really don't think there was anything fundamental about this story.
