reGeneration: Stories of Resilient Faith in Communist Romania

Rate this book
Story is a powerful tool for teaching and learning. This is a book of stories about ministry in the underground church of communist Romania (1980s). It introduces a never-ending story about the regenerative process of true discipleship, which reaches today to the second, third, and fourth generations. These stories will inspire deeper reflection on challenging missional issues that will certainly be encountered by the next generation of international workers.

So good to hear Miriam’s stories again and in this context. I vividly remember reading those “inner circle” letters she would send out during her years living in Europe.

A Thrilling Story of Faith in Action. A woman whose feet were shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace

Miriam Charter has been my BFF since Grade Four at Prairie Elementary School in Three Hills Alberta Canada, and on through fours years at Prairie High School, and Prairie Bible Institute. She has been an Iron-Sharpens-Iron type of friend who has challenged me academically, spiritually, and socially. (To this day I have flashbacks of funny things she said and stories she shared with me.)Although she herself had a pristine reputation, she always found ways to get me into trouble with the teachers!)
All this to say that Miriam has grown to be a woman of excellence, great faith, and determination, willing to risk all to travel behind the Iron Curtain in the height of Communistic Rule,to disciple wives of Romanian pastors who would train other pastors’ wives to train others, and on and on to several generations. Hence the title of this book, ReGeneration.
I was moved to tears to read of the fruit of her labors as seen in the hundreds of multi-generational women who came to her 30-year reunion visit. Women who had trained generation after generation to pass along the vision.
ReGeneration is a must-read.

Miriam writes a compelling autobiography of a woman who learned her skills as a missionary during the totalitarian regime of dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. Her brave journey into the totalitarian state facilitated a meaningful opportunity to share the Christian gospel with largely unreached women in the Romanian church. The book captures a sense of the danger and barriers she encountered, but also the lessons she has learned about sharing the Christian gospel

Miriam’s insight into the role of women in leadership within the missionary community, the power of specific purpose in her mission, and the blessings that God has provided were inspirational to read. Her honest reflection on what this has meant for her as a woman, and a leader during her journey provided meaning and depth.

My only suggestion is that more stories of the people and experiences be shared. Perhaps there is a second book coming?

Very interesting, but the stories are used as illustration and modeling.
