LOL
Heidi is a WHOLE mess. Lying about your vision because you're jealous of your friends glasses is diabolical.

Oh Heidi, must you always be the center of attention?
When Heidi's best friend gets glasses, of course Heidi wants them too, especially when she realizes how much attention Lucy is getting because of them. So she does what any witch would - she convinces people she needs glasses too. Now she's got headaches and can't see where she's going. Poor Heidi! Will you never learn?

Heidi lies to get glasses because she thinks they'll make her look cool but she learns an important lesson about telling the truth. There is still some caddiness and some things I don't love in this series, but overall this was cute.

My, my, Heidi's parents sure are understanding. She tricks them into buying her new glasses that she doesn't need at all, and not a word of admonishment. The Heckelbecks must be very loose with their spending.

Heidi decides she wants glasses because her friend Lucy got glasses and everyone wanted to be friends with her. Lucy got on the wall of fame in their classroom because she got glasses. Whenever something exciting happens to someone, they go on the wall of fame. Heidi's Aunt Trudy once made braces out of tinfoil to look like she had them. I did that while I was reading this book. Heidi pretends to fail her eye test to get glasses and then she can't see anything WITH them. She thought 3 was 8 and 8 was 3. I borrowed my mom's glasses and it was a little blurry but I could still read words perfectly. In the end, her aunt figures out that she doesn't need glasses and gets rid of them.

Heidi wants to be cool because Lucy gets all the attention when she gets her new glasses. Heidi comes home and asks her mom if she can have glasses. Her mom says no because she likes Heidi the way she is and Heidi doesn't need glasses. I think that Heidi learned a lesson because Heidi pretended she needed glasses so she could go to the eye doctor and get glasses. When she got glasses, they felt weird on her and it was even harder for her to see. She learns to be careful what she wishes for and she learns to be honest.

Kids think reading glasses are cool? You mean movies and books have been lying to me all this time? I mean even in my relatively chill schoool my friends/classmates would also rather squint at the blackboard than put them on or switched to contacts soon. Conversely I always liked them but never needed them. Thank god I decided against fake ones lmao. So I guess this book really gets it! Plus it has a cute parrot!! Ah but I won't hear any slander for heart shaped glasses -it's not really summer untl I put on my green frameless ones 😎

Heidi wants to be on the wall of fame in her classroom and decides to get glasses to earn a spot. She purposely fails the eye tests and when she receives the glasses she is in for a surprise. Things don't get better and we learn that Heidi and her aunt like to chant spells. Interesting since this is only the second book of the series I have read. Does prove not to want something that will make things worse for you.

"In Heidi Heckelbeck Gets Glasses when she first walks with her glasses, she is way closer than she thinks and when she gets charged to take food to her family she spills it all over the place when she when she has them for a little while then she can see where she is going and and she can see better." -Cadee, age 8

I think that this book teaches you that you don't have to get what you want to look cool like glasses, braces, and other stuff.
I think that because when Heidi got glasses, it caused a lot of trouble with her eye sight.

A good one to share the reading with your elementary-aged daughter.

My daughter always loves Heidi! Good lessons involved, but of course chaos on the way to learning the lesson.

This is my favorite Heidi Heckelbeck book!

Heidi H. reminds me of Fancy Nancy - but a couple of years older and instead of fanciness there is lite magic. Not as clever as Ivy and Bean but wishes she was.

I like this book because she acts really funny in it. There is one thing to know before reading this book- you never need to show off your new glasses. 👓

Re-reading my childhood series: 3 stars
So, Heidi… there is a thing called decorative glasses… 😭
This one is pretty mid, just Heidi wanting to get people’s attention. I guess children like attention. (wasn’t me though, I hated attention as a kid lol) So this is probably a nice lesson for kids, that they don’t need accessories to be special.

February 13, 2015Opening: Have any of your friends ever worn something to school that you thought was really cool? Were any of those things so cool that you really wanted one, too? This is what happens to Heidi Heckelbeck when her friend Lucy arrives at school with a new pair of glasses. Heidi gets especially jealous when everybody at school, especially their teacher Mrs. Welli, notices Lucy’s glasses all day. Heidi gets SO jealous that she makes her parents AND the eye doctor think she needs glasses, even though she doesn’t. Can you guess what this causes? All kinds of problems! As we read, watch for all the problems Heidi’s unneeded glasses cause and how she finds out she can be cool WITHOUT having the same cool thing as her friend.
Identify Opening Moves: Invite personal connections, raise interest in a topic or theme. prompt listeners to notice details, raise questions in the reader’s minds.
Rationale: This is a great intermediate chapter book that would be a good independent read or read aloud book in a unit on Empathy and Acceptance. What I especially like about this book and what makes it different from the other three is that it shows what happens when someone tries to change themselves to be like someone else or because they don’t yet accept/understand their own differences—and the difficulties and problems this can cause. Again, it helps students understand that differences are good and cool and can even help friends become better friends.
