Grief: Insights and Tips for Teenagers is a compassionate guide to help you and those you care about navigate the difficult path of grief. Filled with the words of other young adults who have walked this road themselves, you will find that you are not alone—and that things do get better. You will learn Grief is one of the most personal emotions we can experience—no one will ever have the unique relationship you had with your family member or friend. At the same time, the sadness of grief is one of the most universal feelings. This book shows both the personal and universal sides of mourning, bringing a message of hope during a difficult time.
suggestions for grief embedded in this book include: mindfulness and meditation; writing letters to the person who's left; composing journals; writing essays; reading and writing poetry; making art such as woodwork and brushwork; reaching out to mentors such as pastors, sports coaches and doctors; praying (in both religious and secular forms, in both petition and intercession forms); honoring the deceased by volunteering for their cause; treasuring mementos and photos; exercising, and spending time in the natural outdoors; finding meaning by 'finding ways to sustain love for the person after their death while moving forward with life' by carrying the love for the person forward instead of letting that flame go out, and being a good person and friend.
Compassionate and straightfoward, this book details ways to honor loved ones who have died while also leaning into and exploring grief in healthy ways. I read this one aloud with my 13 year old - we have dealt with much grief in the past few years - and they appreciated learning from others' experiences.
I picked this book up to read to get insights for my son but ended up reading it more for myself. Very well written with great insights and tips that are not only applicable to teenagers but could be applicable to adults also. Hard to read about the individual cases a little bit for me but very interesting to hear about others' losses as well. Highly recommend this book.
