Collects Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #300, 315-317. The deadliest foe of Spider-Man! During their acclaimed run on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, writer David Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane introduced an adversary for the ages: the larger-than-life Venom! Peter Parker's spurned symbiote costume sought out Eddie Brock, whose thirst for vengeance matched its own. Together, they emerged from the shadows to terrorize Mary Jane before turning their attention to their real target: Spider-Man! With all of Peter Parker's powers but much stronger and more vicious, Venom may be the one to shred the wall-crawler's web permanently, unless Spidey can find some weakness - and fast! But what will happen when Venom targets the Black Cat…and Aunt May?! This stunning collection features Michelinie and McFarlane's unforgettable Spidey vs. Venom tales - and some of the most dynamic artwork of the era!
I love this big "gallery edition" format that Marvel is putting out for many of its important stories, highlighting great artists of the medium. This time is Todd Mcfarlane stories featuribg Venom, with scripts by David Michelinie.
The thing about this book is that the quality of the paper and the pages, with remastered color, make the art look weak in places. The original newsprint paper and its size, smaller than this format, hid some of the shortcuts taken to get this book on time. Like the collage photocopied cities colored behind spider-man or Venom in some of the swinging drawings, or the thick inks and somewhat crazy hatching in some pages, but even with that, Mcfarlane art shines when he is let loose as a product of its time.
Storywise, this collects no more than four issues, including Amazing Spider-Man 300, all of them that I enjoyed as standalone complete stories dealing with Venom. So, no deep thinking here, just plain fun and action.
