Welcome to the jungle. Vackra växters vän. Så ett frö.
Short and sweet - I literally read it in one mid-afternoon.
A while back, I picked up a more serious book on plants and gardening, but TBH, as a complete plant n00b, I've been feeling a bit intimidated by it. So when I saw this one on sale, I figured it'd be a nice way to dip my toes into the topic - despite being a bit irked by the title.
Some reviews mention that the book could have included more information instead of so many inspirational quotes, but that didn't put me off at first. I checked out what those pages looked like in the print version and thought: hey, I enjoy some nice typography, and I'm buying this book exactly because it's light on info - a bit of fluff won't hurt.
Since I was reading on a tablet, I expected the pretty pages to render nicely. Unfortunately, they ended up being one of my main disappointments. Instead of cute graphics, the ebook version just shows a photo and a quote in plain text. After a few of those, I got tired of them pretty quickly and found them, indeed, annoying.
Another thing I didn't care much for was the DIY section, which mostly focused on decorating pots. Not that the ideas were bad - they just didn't really interest me.
I did enjoy the Plant Care and Troubleshooting chapters, though. I feel like I learned exactly as much as I hoped - a nice little primer without getting overwhelmed.
The main section of the book presents a nice selection of plants to choose from, which I found genuinely inspirational and gave me quite a few ideas.
Obviously, as the n00b I’ve admitted to being, it goes without saying that I can't really judge how valid the advice in the book is - but for what it is, I enjoyed it.
Adı üstünde “little book”.
This book is visually, very beautiful. I liked that it features a lot of "lesser known" or not as commonly known/discussed houseplants, like the asparagus fern or "weeping fig." I learned some new names for plants that I have, like the heartleaf philodendron (called "sweetheart plant" in the book). I find it interesting that the author suggests putting the monstera delicious ("cheese plant") in a shaded area when other houseplant enthusiasts have suggested a higher light area for the same plant. I also found that the author suggests wiping plants leaves with a milk and water combo, which I've also heard of, but am skeptical of. Overall, it's a super cute book. It would make an excellent gift for anyone who loves or collects houseplants.
It's fine, cute little gift book with bonus DIY/crafting ideas in it that I didn't expect! Great little book if you've absolutely no idea where to start with houseplants. I feel a lot of space in the last section of the book (info on specific plants) could have been used for more actual plant information and less 'motivational quote' graphics that mentioned plants
This is an excellent book for those just starting out on the indoor plant journey. There are one or two points in the book that you may not agree with, but overall it is a fairly solid book. A definite recommendation for 'plant parent' starters.
