Rebecca Rane is an award-winning writer. She's a veteran television and print journalist. She is also an author and podcaster. She weaves her decades of real-world experiences into the Kendra Dillon Cold Case Thrillers. (She also writes light-hearted cozy mysteries under the name Rebecca Regnier. ) .
Investigative journalist, Kendra Dillon had to pivot when she was fired from her tv reporter job. But she found a better fit as the host of The Cold Trail, a podcast that investigates cold cases and tries to find new lines of inquiry. In the second book, The Moment He Vanished, Kendra and her associate producer, Adeline Shoop start the third season of their podcast by looking into the child abduction of Ethan Peltz.
I think this was actually more intense than the last book. It's definitely more action packed. I loved the switching viewpoints, the structure worked well in the last book, but extremely well in this one.
Kendra was fantastic. I loved her determined attitude and dogged persistence. I did feel like she made some dumb decisions though - visiting the place she was taken from alone, going places by herself without telling anyone - I mean yeah people do that, but she's actually been abducted - seems like she should be even more aware of how wrong things can go.
Honestly she's kind of absentminded about safety considering everything. I got maybe not reporting things to the cops but I felt like she should be actively preparing for trouble. And no, pepper spray is not remotely enough. I can't wait to know more about her past. I thought I'd find out in the last one or in this one but the author seems to be building it up. I'd be more annoyed if I wasn't so hooked on this series.
As for the mystery in this one, it had me spinning. I'd settle on one theory and then totally second guess myself. I was completely dumbfounded by the ending. As for her stalker I have a prediction about that. Time will tell if I'm right though. And let's face it, my track record says I'm wrong.
The second book in the series focuses on young boys who go missing. Things are not always as they seem. This book has an interesting twist at the very end. "I am Ethan Peltz. Kendra Dillon hosts a popular podcast, The Cold Trail, on her local public radio station. Once again her boss is breathing down her neck to choose her next "seasons" cold case. A young man walks into her office claiming to be a boy that wen missing many years ago. But the more Kendra digs into his story, the more questions she has, and the more dangerous telling this story becomes for her. Intriguing, realistic, and compelling characters. Kendra is an absolutely fascinating young woman who has overcome a horrific incident from her own past, but herd latest cold case hits so close to that past she just may fail to notice that her star witness in hiding his own appalling crimes. Fantastic book with some nail biting suspense, plenty of twists in the plot, and it's all wrapped up in a frightening mystery about missing children. I couldn't put this book down.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is one of those books I could not put down. Kendra Dillon really knows how to drive a story. Successful podcaster dealing with her own past pursues a story regardless of her own safety. Just when the clues stop coming and it seemingly comes to an end, Kendra happens across another piece of information to continue the story to the end. Full of twists and turns, this book is surely to keep you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to see what happens to Kendra next. I’m invested.
I’ve enjoyed both of the books in the Kendra Dillon series. Looking forward to how Kendra’s story develops and how she defeats her crazed stalker. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put it down. Can’t believe I have to wait 4 months for the next installment. Rebecca Rane, if you need a proofreader, let me know. I’d be happy to do it :)
A young adult walks into the podcast station claiming to be Ethan Peltz who was kidnapped when he was 5 years old. Was he really Ethan or a hoax. Kendra has to dig harder than ever to find the truth Intense. I couldn’t put the book down. Looking forward to reading more books by the Author.
There was no slow pace in this one and I had to finish! I love the set-up of a podcaster looking at Cold Case files. The crazy turn that this story took! I’m on to the next one and only sad that I’ll have to wait for the one after that lol. This series is great for those who like mysteries.
While the gruesome details were discovered, it seemed that at least this cold case would have a happy ending. Looks can deceive. Kendra and Shoop continue uncovering details with the help of retired cop Merriwether. There are several surprises in store for them.
The writing in this series is impeccable. I was a bit disappointed during it because it seemed very similar to another book i read BUT this story and the ending were PERFECT! I will not spoil anything.
Rane’s Kendra Dillon books are almost impossible to put down. They are well written, gripping, extremely tense stories of Kendra and her podcast team seeking solutions to cold cases.
This one deals with young boys who have gone missing, specifically one named Ethan Peltz.
Monstros criam monstros. Está é uma frase que me marcou nesta narrativa, uma história de muita violência e dor. Mais uma vez, a jornalista investigativa salva vidas, colocando a sua própria em risco. Desconfiei de algumas coisas desde o princípio.
Once again a brilliant storyline expertly written. It’s like a story ripped out of the headlines. Happy yet sad ending. I’m off to get the next in this gripping series.
Kendra Dillon is looking for a new podcast story and a young man comes to her telling her that he is a missing boy which is a famous case that everyone knows about. This young man just wants to be reunited with his mother. Kendra takes this story as her next podcast. As she is digging into this story and trying to uncover the truth about this young man she is hitting dead end after dead end but then finally starts to uncover disturbing information and once again is thrust into a dangerous situation. On top of that this is hitting close to home for Kendra who she herself was kidnapped as a child and is still being stalked by her kidnapper. I really loved this book. I like the Kendra and Kyle story. I enjoy the parts of her parents and Shoop as well.
