To my tangled tiles, I have added the art of watercolor and mixed media backgrounds. Helpful drawing guide are also included. We will only discuss projects and tiles with a black-and-white floral theme in this book. You will see pieces of art from numerous CZTs (Certified Zentangle Teachers). You will be motivated by and be able to understand how diverse this art form can be and how one tangle may be used in numerous contexts. We'll begin with a succinct explanation of the Zentangle technique. I'll explain the fundamentals of what tiles and tangles are. Next, we'll talk about the equipment you'll need, as well as your workplace and other essentials. This book is meant to be an introduction to the world of Botanical Zentangle, but I will leave you with lots of resources and links to online classes. You'll be inspired by the breadth of the work being done and will learn new ways of incorporating different tangles.
You will see all kinds of reviews here. I'm not sure that reviewers have previously gone through Zentangle classes, especially in person. I have. Thus I know that readers need to follow the link Mz gave us to the step-outs for the many patterns. I have "read" the book, which is mostly pretty pictures. I still have to work on many of the new-to-me tangles, so in that sense I have not read the book. I'm glad to have new creative ideas for future tangling.
Expecting more instruction, like composition, how to combine or actually draw / design / plan a 3.5" 'tile'. Lovely " tangle" samples, most of the book is wasted with several pages of templates and other artists work in the gallery section. Terrific for new tangle ideas and the basic ones as well.
I'm going to have to stop buying these how to books they really don't explain how to anything.
I don't deface (draw in) my books and offering templates and empty space to practice seems like defeating the purpose of creating your own.
Loved all the different Zen tangles and botanical drawings I could learn. I really felt like I had a more careful touch by the time I'd practiced each one and made it to the projects at the end. I wish I had bought a paper copy, to have all the tile templates, but I still might! There's a lot of information about Zen tangle artists, which I probably don't need, but the pictures of their work were certainly beautiful.
I have flipped though many books. But this book is the flagship of doodles and zentangle. You must own this book. It is an absolute treasure. Clean crisp layout so pleasing to my eyes. Thank you for creating such a lovely piece of art for all of us to have and enjoy!!!
I expected more step-by-step instructions. It’s a great source of inspiration though. I’d recommend it for that, inspiration. Has a collection of cool artists.
I like the instruction and variety of tangles. That they are floral in nature is its best quality. Buy the hardcover or be prepared to print pages of projects and blank pages too.
This gives great instructions for practice or to create your own design. I really like that it breaks down the tangle so you can learn before you incorporate it into a tile.
A fun compendium of botanical tangles. These are the types of doodles that I do when my mind is running wild or trying to stay with the thread of a less than scintillating meeting.
