The last Bible torn in two. A people bound by law. A girl in need of grace.
Angelica longs for redemption. Her mother has vanished and Angelica believes it's her fault. But no matter how many sacrifices she brings to the altar, it seems God refuses to forgive her.
Just when Angelica despairs of ever getting it right; God chooses her to go and find the lost New Testament. Is this finally the penance she seeks?
Angelica must journey across the Alaskan wilderness, battle the forces of evil, and venture into the dark city to find absolution.
This is an amazing book. It was pleasant to read a story without any curse words. I could see the scenery in my mind, and it was beautiful. The story line kept me in thralled throughout. Will there be a sequel? I hope so.
I will not spoil the story but I will tell you this is a must read. Good for all ages. I loved the Harry Potter series and haven't found a book since that I have loved so much. This is that book. I can't wait to get my hands on another book. The detail in this book will take you to beautiful places. The struggles in this book are relatable and there is so much action! This book will take you on a journey that you will be excited to be on and keep you turning pages to see where it ends.
A fascinating concept with wonderful character development in the stunning scenery of Alaska. In a future society where people live by the Levitical law, Angelica embarks on a dangerous quest to recover the missing New Testament. Along the way she will make new friends and discover the hope and grace that Jesus offers. A beautiful depiction of the Christian gospel message, set in a rich and unique story. Recommend to fantasy readers for both Christian and non-Christians.
An interesting bit of “what if” filled with adventure, intrigue, deception and truth. This work of fiction caused me to be thankful anew that we do not live under the law and that the Bible is so readily available to us here in the US.
Angelica is a troublemaker. Her father is the High Priest and has high expectations of his daughter, who feels like a constant failure under his scrutiny and judgement. Her mother is long gone, after travelling to the forbidden south when Angelica was just a girl and never returning home. Anjelica wants to please God and her father, but can’t quite figure out how. After a visit to her sick grandfather, everything changes and she herself must venture south to continue the quest her mother began all those years ago.
I loved Lost in the Land of the Midnight Sun. It is full of wonderful characters and breathtaking imagery of the Alaskan wilderness. The author weaves themes of religion, duty, calling, and grace throughout the story. Angelica’s life growing up with only the old testament law was harsh and full of judgement. I felt myself both cheering for Angelica when she understood things and despairing with her when things went awry. Her companion dog, Chugiak was a great character and even got his own POV chapter that was so well done.
As I read I pondered my own journey of faith and realized how much I sometimes take God’s grace for granted. I’m so grateful to have read this story and wait eagerly for part two after the heart-pounding ending was left wide open for more.
I was given a free ebook copy by the author and this is my honest review.
In my personal experience Christian Fiction these days falls into historical or cozy categories - although writers in the past (and occasionally now) forayed into fantasy and science fiction genres. And when they did it was mostly the underlying theme that could be termed Christian based.
This novel is one of the few apocalyptic/dystopian novels which takes the Christian Bibles' story of Salvation History and places it smack-dab right in the middle, in your face no apologies! I thoroughly enjoyed the many characters and their individual development and interactions the author created that illuminated the whole narrative.
Bottom line - I want to read more!
For disclosure I did receive a copy in promise of review.
I had the privilege of getting an early copy and read it in less than 2 days. Yes, this is a page-turner. Frank Peretti is one of my favorite authors because when he writes he writes two stories. One story is the words on the page, and the other story is the words on your heart. He goes deeper. I would put Christiana Cattane in the same category. The story written on paper is an excellent page-turner, but there is also the other story if you want to go deeper. I love going deeper. For me the deeper question is do you only follow the laws of God, or do you want the laws of God with his grace? The choice is yours.
This is a great story. Set in the future is not usually something I’m into but I really enjoyed going there in this book. The characters were vibrant and relatable. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series...so keep them coming please!
This dystopian tale is cleverly done and fun as a fairly quick read. It does have significant flaws in world building. If you want something different, this could be a good fit
This book takes you on a crazy adventure! Quickly your pulled into a great story!!! This book doesn't just offer a great story but also is a challenge if you want to go deeper!!
Alaska comes alive in this story of adventure, challenges, and God's faithfulness. The dystopia setting frame the truth in this story that was and is and always will be Truth.
What a unique and awesome idea for a dystopian novel. A time hundreds of years in the future, after a huge calamity has changed the world from what we currently know it as, to a time with no technology, and no New Testament. The only holy book is the Old Testament, so the people in our story, who live in Alaska, have reverted back to living under the law, complete with the tabernacle, priests, high priest, and sacrifices. Angelica is our heroine in this story, and she is rebellious against her father and these strict laws that cause poor people who can't afford the sacrifice to be kept in the untouchable camp. We see her care for others, her mercy, but she sees herself as a failure. She carries so much guilt. Yet she is the chosen one. One who ends up on a quest to find the New Testament. Though she struggles initially with knowing if this is what she is really called to do. It is it really God's will? Her journey is quite the adventure, with a bunch of obstacles and challenges in her way. Her only companion at first is her dog, yet she finds help along the way, along with facing more adversaries, some unexpected. What I hadn't expected was being able to see the spiritual battle she was facing so clearly. Evil spirits and protecting angels played a part in this struggle to get the truth of the story of Jesus back to the people, to free them from the chains of the law. I admit I had a bit of trouble getting into the book at first, and the beginning and trying to figure out the time frame was a bit confusing. But once I got into the story, I didn't want to put it down. I was caught up in this adventure. There was just the right amount of suspense. I love the friendships she made along the way. I loved seeing Angelica learn to trust in God. There were a few times when things didn't quite seem to be adding up time wise, or when some characters suddenly appeared out of nowhere. However, I still enjoyed this book immensely and can't wait to read the second book. I did receive a copy of this book for free from the author so I could read it and understand the story before reading the second book, which I also received for free in exchange for my honest review. I'm so glad to have discovered this author and this great series.

This book fascinated me from the beginning. I find it interesting that in the future (from the perspective of this particular book), we go back to Old Testament days, living by the Law. I don't think I've ever seen that before. I also found it unique that the story takes place in Alaska. That puts a different spin on the sacrifices and the scenery from Israel. I like that.
My heart breaks for Angelica, and the guilt she's carried all these years. I can FEEL it pressing in as they "purify" her, and I love the uncertainty Angelica feels about her calling. It feels real. We've all been there. And the angels that appear during Catherine's prayer? Amazing.
I LOVE that this "treasure hunt," so to speak, was to get the New Testament. How wonderful it would be if we all (if *I*) treated it like the treasure it is.
Having said that, some things seem disjointed and unexplained. Different scenes from the one before. I don't want to give spoilers, but there have been a few times that I've wondered how that happened, and why. Also, some of the conversations seem like they were written for kids; several clichés, childish jokes, simplistic conversations.
All in all, this was a pretty good book, and I look forward to reading the sequel. I give it 3.5 stars.
Intriguing book. Enjoyed the story and the themes of legalism and grace and the reality of spiritual warfare even if i didn't agree with some minor points of theology. Looking forward to the next book.
