What if your reflection was not your own? For Jace Lannister, it’s not always easy being black and gay in the weird world of Portland. It doesn’t help that he’s the son of the Brooklyn Butcher, the notorious serial killer who claimed nineteen lives in the early ‘90s before escaping justice. With buried secrets and a new identity, Jace has created a new life for himself far from his blood-stained roots. But all is shattered when a gruesome murder surfaces echoing the past, fueled by his father’s dark legacy. Has the Brooklyn Butcher returned? Is history destined to repeat itself in the image of his son? Or is something far more sinister emerging from the other side of the mirror?

I loved everything about this book; from the rich, beautiful writing style that draws you in and engages immediately, to the cast of vivid and believable, LGBTQ characters...and of course the tense and suspenseful plot.
The author has you constantly second-guessing EVERYONE! chasing shadows between words and actions as you question each character's motives.
This is really great thriller writing, with a taut and well thought through plot, diverse, sincere characters, a lovely evocative tone to the words...and a seriously sexy detective to boot. Loved it!
This novel was really a thrill! What sets it apart from other murder-thrillers is the fact that it’s grounded in the lives of queer, Black men who have found each other against all odds. Jace and his friends, and the family they’ve inadvertently made, draws you into their lives and raises the stakes, keeping you on the edge of your seat, guessing and second-guessing everyone and everything. Additionally, the novel explores generational trauma, the idea of family history, and what family actually means, all of which exemplify the experience of many queer people leaving behind the unsafe in search of peace and the chance at a full life.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat prep your self to not do anything else but read, you will not want to stop the suspense is so intriguing. Cannot wait until th second book I need more of Jace.
Jace Lannister definitely had some secrets! This was a thriller I couldn’t put down. The characters were very relatable and Christopher Murphy really captured life as a Black LGBT character, from topics that are relevant today like Black Lives Matter, to relationships, even the challenges every LGBT individual has to deal with when coming out. Although, the story’s main focus is Jace Lannister, son of the Brooklyn Butcher! Is Jace the killer? Is it one of his friends? Is it his therapist? I couldn’t stop second guessing characters because of how well the story was written, small hints and clues that tied to current murders that Christopher Murphy played on through all of the characters actions, but just enough not to give away the killer and to make me keep reading! I wouldn’t hesitate in picking up a copy of this book! 5 stars!
While it started off slow, as you get into the book you can understand why the first chapter is needed. It sets the tone for Jace's character and love for his job. This book was amazin. One of the best ones I have read.
