They’ll face an impossible choice in this new post-apocalyptic reality.
Winter has arrived on the Healys’ Montana ranch. After discovering evidence of the cold-hearted execution of his father, Greg Healy has become consumed with a burning desire for revenge. While he hides his true purpose of scoping out the murderous enemy behind fruitless hunting trips, further responsibility is thrust upon Greg’s teenage son, Darryl. The ranch has become a hollow shell without the calm assurance and steady hand his father once provided, stability Darryl needs more than ever with the shocking secret he keeps.
The fractures in the family only grow as each side becomes entrenched behind resentments that threaten to shatter an increasingly uncertain future. But as the Healy family drifts farther apart, the enemy has been anything but idle. Eustace has amassed a new and lethal force with a single goal: Take the Healys’ ranch by any means necessary and make them pay for permanently disabling him.
And when Eustace kidnaps one of their own, the Healys will face the most difficult choice of all: Sacrifice the ranch or risk the destruction of their family.
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
This is book two of the Return of the Wild West series and focuses on the Healy family and their Montana Ranch. Secrets are being held by a couple of the people in the home and could have serious consequences to the lives of all of them. Darryl and Justine have become close since she was found as the only survivor of her family after the mayor’s attack on their family. The Healy’s worked with her to get justice for her family and now she has become a part of their extended family. Darryl is trying to step up and become more responsible, but his father Greg has become almost at odds with the rest of the family, hiding the biggest secret of all. He has not taken the killing of his father and the shooting of his daughter Emma well and has a burning need to get revenge against Eustace, who he finds has arrived in the town and seems to be taking over the work of the former mayor! Greg pretends to be going on fruitless hunting expeditions, when really he is scouting out his enemy’s location and wants to pick him off, but not if he would get killed in return and leave his family more vulnerable.
Eustace has hired in a former worker and military man, who used to do all the cover ups and getting rid of evidence or even people occasionally, to help with his plan to take over the whole community. What he hasn’t told James, is that this is personal and he wants the Healy farm and ranch house for himself. He wants all of them dead, including any of the kids. To him, they all need to die for the pain and suffering they put him through and Greg’s original plot to get evidence of his polluting the wilderness along his company’s pipeline. Tuck, Greg’s father, managed to get one good shot in at Eustace, leaving him with a festering wound on his arm, which has left it being fairly useless! More him not looking after it properly, than the Healy’s fault, but he is getting more irrational as time goes by. While the Healy’s are falling apart as a family, Eustace has been busy amassing supplies and getting most of the town now under his control. He has a large force to protect his supplies and enforce his demands, with violence or threats if needed!
He is determined to take the ranch by whatever means necessary and to make each family member pay for crippling him and leaving him in permanent pain. His second in command gives the Healy family fair warning of Eustace’s plans and gives them the impossible choice to either leave their home and most of their supplies, or face a large force who will overrun them and kill whomever tries to stop them. When they find a member of the family missing after this warning and realise Eustace has kidnapped them, they have to make their choice and quickly. While James may be doing everything so far that Eustace has asked him to, he may be more likely to listen to reason, than Eustace, who is blinded by his irrational rage against the family. He would willingly kill the family member he has in his clutches, to make an example to Greg and draw him out into a confrontation. They either need to sacrifice the ranch and all the hard work they have done to it so far, to survive the harsh winter and keep them all alive, or they will risk many of them being killed trying to defend it, when it seems their foe has gathered such a large and deadly force to use against them.
A shocking decision to be made at the end of this book and one that will change all of their lives, whichever way they go. Lots of action and some brilliant survivalist ideas put into action. But also danger, as some want what others have and many will do whatever they can to take an easier route to gain this by force, rather than do the work like many others. A young man stepping up and a younger sister who has lots of plans but is rarely allowed to put anything into action. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next instalment of the series and the Healy extended family. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
With Mayor Filmore dead, Eustace Simpson and James Tiegan take over the warehouse and the devious plan the mayor had started. Pam Graiser, ex-policewoman was still with them. The guards employed by the mayor were now working for Eustace and they continued looting, stocking the warehouse full. Eustace not only wanted Healy’s supplies, but he also wanted them dead. Back at Greg’s parent’s home; Greg Healy, his mother Marion, wife Tabitha, daughter Emma, son Darryl, and girlfriend Justine are busy fortifying the homestead and an encompassing fence. Greg had spotted Eustace and another man making off with one of their cattle. He thought about putting an end to Eustace but the idea didn’t come to fruition. He kept the theft, and the desire to assassinate Eustace, secret from the family and it was irritating him to no end. This treachery of Eustace’s would have to be dealt with. Speaking of secrets, Darryl and Justine had a whopper of their own. Secrets don’t last long in a small family setting. The tension mounts as the Healys face off against Eustace’s gang. I enjoyed this post-apocalyptic survival book. Although I haven't read the first book, all that was important to the story was reminded in this second part. Book is amazingly easy to read and follow. I cannot say if I took a liking to the characters though. Yes, I pitied a bit Emma cause she was really trying hard that the family members notice her, but they always had something more important or their own problems to deal with. Overall not much happened the whole book. Family is trying to survive and we learn all they have to do around the ranch in order to do that. Their old nemesis from the book 1 is back, so we learned how Tuck died and that Emma was shot (which already happened). Eustace is not likable at all, ugly guy with ugly personality, desperate for revenge because of his crippled arm. I enjoyed the book, but for me it was also enough to learn that I am not that curious to know what will happen afterwards. It's not an amazing book, but good enough as a hobby book if you don't want to read something "heavy" for your mind.
I didn't like this book mostly. A big reason is that character development was poor. The main character, Greg, was basically unlikable. Daughter Emma's development (as a character) was at times way beyond her years in age (a good thing) and then went down to way below her years to say like 7 or 8 years of age. Frankly, none of the characters had good development, but Greg's character portrayal was just awful and simplistic. Other problems I had with the book included that the EMP's impact was mostly glossed over and that no one seemed to be having issues with finding food to eat. I would like to say that an EMP hitting North America would be a horrible event, close to an extinction level event given that society is basically no longer able to fend for itself, i.e. feed itself due to the fact that most people no longer even knows how to do so because most people live in an urban life--even in rural areas.
I’ve read a lot of survivalist stories in the past few years. One of the best writers in this genre is Grace Hamilton. Her ability to bring you into the story is amazing. Her characters seem alive. They are never perfect and yet it’s that imperfection that makes them believable.
This story picks up from book 1. The main characters, led by the Grandmother, Tabitha, are struggling to live in a world effected by an EMP. Her son, Greg and Grandson, Darryl must not only work through surviving but must also learn to address the common difficulties face by all fathers and sons. The book ends with a twist on the normal story that I found interesting. I think you’ll like it too.
Greg finds evidence of a cold-hearted execution of his father. He's become single minded about revenge. He leaves his son Darryl to watch the ranch and Darryl needs his father with him to keep the calm and steady hand to provide for the stability of the ranch. As the family drifts father apart the threat of the enemy becomes stronger. There is so much more going on behind the scenes at the ranch, will the secrets and untruths bring down the Healy's and lead to the loss of their ranch. Can't wait for the last book. Survive the Fall is a great post apocalyptic story. It is about the Healey family and the trials they have to go through after everything stops. This is the second book in the series and it is just as good as the first one. They learn they need to communicate better. There is a lot of anger, frustrations, hope, dreams and love in this story. This family isn't perfect, but they do their best for one another. There are outside forces that strive to destroy them. I love the characters and they grow and change during the story. I really enjoyed the story and am looking forward to reading the next story in the series. I would recommend this book. It is GOOD!
This second book in the trilogy moves things forward. But falls a little flat. There isn't enough here to justify it to me. I don't feel like I know the characters much better than previously, or that the necessary struggle is worth this whole book. It just seems drawn out...needless to say it is well written and I finished it and am eagerly awaiting book 3 because I want to know the end struggles....

Survive the Attack is book two of the EMP: Return of the Wild West series and it picks up where book one left off. After the death of his father Greg Healy is determined to get revenge and the whole ranch is turned upside down with all the crazy stuff going on in the post apocalyptic world. Book two is a fast paced read filled with danger, intrigue, suspense, and an ending that left me ready for the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
The Healy family survived the EMP attack. Now there families survival is at stake. Do they surrender their home they built with their bare hands? Initially, they vowed to fight. Then the matriarchs granddaughter his been taken hostage buy the crew that controls the town and all the properties nearby. A choice has to be made. I won't spill the beans! This is an excellent read and has my highest recommendation!! Enjoyed immensely!!
This story picks up where book 1 left off. As typical with this genre, the plot is contrived with many illogical decisions and actions. It's light on practical details. The characters are well drawn and Andrew Tell voices these characters distinctly and appropriately. Thankfully, the story ends satisfactorily.

Greg discovers that Eustace is alive and well and running the Mayor’s old enterprise. Justine shares a disturbing secret with Darryl. Someone is stealing their cattle. Emma is ever resourceful but gets in big trouble. Never a dull moment at the Healy ranch

This is a great read. I would recommend it to those from teenage to older adults. I really like the part where James shot that horrible guy. I also like the part where they all realize that family was the most important thing of all. I am excited to read the next book in the series.
I really like the storyline.I really like the nice people.I really hate the rumination and repetition. It drives me crazy! It plays like an EMP soap opera. Andrew Tell is an excellent narrator. I liked the ending. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Another great story in this exciting EMP end of the world series by Grace Hamilton! Further adventures & a hard decision to be made for the family! Exciting stuff! I am looking forward to the next part already!
The author sure knows how to put together an interesting and exciting story! Reading the story of the Healys makes me think of what I’d be willing to give up for the sake of family. Everything!
Wow. Trouble after trouble in this entertaining novel. I have come to dislike Greg Healy. He showed his worst, egotistical typical macho man. The story is interesting with the female characters being the level heads of the group.
Great series of family and survival in a time where you can only trust those closest to you. It was great watching the family grow and adapt. As usual Andrew Tell did an great job narrating. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This series is the first that I have read that takes place outside of the states. Good storyline, characters and plot. Hoping this series continues to be great.
