They’re entering the storm—and only together will they survive.
Spring is around the corner, and the Healys must again face Canada’s mountainous onslaught to reach the security of the hunting cabin. Though they were forced to give up the family’s ranch to the post-apocalyptic mob, the most important thing to Greg Healy now is that they still have the cattle and the family is all together safe and sound. But just as the end of their grueling trek is within sight, the spring thaw brings unending trouble.
And heartbreaking tragedy.
The burden of leading loved ones falls hard on Darryl Healy’s shoulders as he confronts his most daunting task yet—becoming a father. But the trail is an unforgiving master, not fit for man, woman, or beast, and the cattle have proven time and again to be an irresistible draw to those determined to take everything the Healys have left.
When a vicious new enemy follows in their wake and guns are drawn in the avalanche-prone pass, Darryl is forced to defend and protect his family just as his father and grandfather taught him.
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
This is book three of the EMP: Return of the Wild West series and joins the Healy family Tabitha, her son Greg and his wife Marion, and their children Emma and Darryl, along with Darryl’s pregnant girlfriend Justine and the Healy’s neighbour and disabled veteran Horace. In the previous book they were driven off their ranch by the new leader of the local town and his thugs and were trying to make it to Tabitha and her dead husband Tuck’s old and remote hunting cabin. They didn’t manage to make it all the way there due to the heavy snowfall, as they tried to get through a mountain pass. Now Spring is arriving and the snow has been melting. They have been living in damp conditions for months, awaiting the pass becoming passable and the time to move on is now, before Justine has her baby! They prepare the horses and wagon, but that doesn’t turn out quite as hoped. They have managed to keep their remaining cattle alive and need to follow Tabitha’s direction to get to the remote cabin and soon.
When they reach a split in the paths, they have the choice of the slightly more eroded but shorter path by the river or the longer but safer path which will takes days more to reach the safety of the cabin. Greg takes charge and chooses one path, but disaster awaits from the Spring thaw and leads to heartbreaking tragedy for the family. Darryl is left to pick up the pieces and take the burden of leading the remainder of the group, as well as be concerned about his pregnant girlfriend Justine, who looks about to pop. Horace has two prosthetic legs and Tabitha doesn’t seem very well, leaving at least three of them that need to rely on the horses to travel. The cattle start to have a mind of their own and they soon face the daunting event of a new edition to the family! Darryl and Emma find tracks of some other people nearby and when they follow the tracks, soon spot a larger group of heavily armed people, who seem to be following their visible tracks. Their cattle and supplies carrier are leaving very clear markings in the muddy ground and it seems yet another group are after what the family has and will do anything to take it from them!
The young Darryl has to prove his mettle as a man and now a father, on the treacherous mountain trails, as he has to defend and protect the rest of his family, as he has been brought up to do by his father and grandfather. He has a difficult path to follow, no matter how hard his previous relationship with his father might have been. All of the decisions will be on his head now and he will need to do whatever has to be done, by any means available, perhaps using what his sister suggested! Another shocking part of this series and a fitting finale for the characters. Not all will survive this dangerous time, as some use the post-apocalyptic period to allow their base desires for control and power to overcome humanity norms. A real story of survival in harsh conditions as the world has to go back to basic times and facing off against aggressive foes. A really enjoyable read with lots of useful survivalist information, from how to make something with some basic materials at hand, to what plants and flowers could be useful in different I love learning useful things as I read and this serves that up in bucket loads. Definitely something you hope never happens for real, but makes you think about what you may need to do to deal with different situations and awareness about your surroundings. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
I love end of the world books, but this one fell short. This is the first book in the series that I read...for that reason, I did not give it a lower rating. However, coming in at the 3rd book, I never found out what had happened, who the characters were and why I should care about them. Further, was Sasha and her crew part of an earlier plot/book/storyline? Was she a brand new bad, evil character? The author provided scant background information on the supposed bad people. What was their background, why were they in the mountains. I do not require a full book but a synopsis of what happened in the previous books would have been helpful. I would be remiss if I did not mention the horrible use of foreshadowing. Look the river is going to/has flooded. OK. Lets take the river route and wonder what will happen. Two paragraphs later..oh look the river flooded. The fight scenes were long and drawn out.
There is a story there. Just not enough character development and too much on fight scenes.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this ARC for this honest review.
At the close of the prior volume, Survive the Attack, the Healy family was driven out of their home on the threat of death by James Tiegan. The Healy’s packed what belongings they could in the wagon and the remaining cattle, heading out for the family hunting cabin in the mountains. Unfortunately, they did not make it through the pass before winter snow closed it. It’s now spring, and the family is anxious to get moving once again. The trek may be difficult, if not dangerous, not only for the wagon but the cattle have to be driven through the pass as well. To complicate matters further, Justine was very pregnant. They encountered numerous problems as they fled, not the worst being a flash flood, and a group of persistent raiders. Unfortunately, not all would survive the journey. Those that did would face a difficult challenge, but they were alive. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
It does not make much sense to read a book that's the third in a series without having read the other two first... I missed a whole lot of backstory and I am very sorry that I am unable to honour this book properly.
It was a very amusing and informative read. It's evident that the person who's behind the keyboard really knows what they are doing and the result is this gripping, realistic novel. I've never read such a survival novel - or any survival novel, come to think of it - before and I found myself being deeply involved in that story. It was amazing! So, the writing and plot are amazing, but I couldn't quite connect with the characters. Which is mostly my fault, for reading the third books in a series before the others.
I received a free copy by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is book three of the EMP Return of the Wild West. The family are on their way to the Canadian mountain hunting cabin. The Healy's had to give up the family ranch to the mobs but they still have the cattle and each other. Now spring is bringing all kinds of trouble. Darryl Healy is ready to become a father. They are still being chased by evil that's ready to take everything away from this family. The characters are very believable and they are strong resourceful survivalist. This was a great series. Highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Survive The Journey is the third and final book in the EMP: Return of the Wild West series and it picks up where book two left off. I definitely recommend you read the first two books before starting this one or you will be lost. I have been loving this author's writing as it has helped me think about what I would do in this situation. This is a fast paced, page turning read filled with danger, suspense, action, strong characters, unexpected twists, descriptive writing, and a great ending. I look forward to reading the next captivating series by this amazing author. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Forced off their ranch by the evil townspeople, the Healy clan along with Horace Bouchard and a very pregnant Justine Carmichael head through the mountains to the hunting cabin that Tabitha and her late husband had built years before. The hard Canadian winter and the spring thaw that follows provide perils aplenty. Throw in an unstable pregnancy and predatory gangs and you have the makings for a real odyssey/thriller story.

This series is a perfect example of how devastating life will be when SHTF. No matter how prepared you think you are, human nature will always be the deciding factor. Love, indecision, grim determination and just plan luck can be the foundation of survival. Well written, harsh at times, but I liked that it painted a picture of reality instead of a perfect scenario with a perfect ending. Surviving can be a bitch and not for the snowflakes of this world. As always, Great job Grace! Definitely worth the read and the tears.
I’ve long admired Grace Hamilton. She’s a great storyteller! This third book in the series continues the excellent tale. However, while there were a few errors in the first two books, this one is so full of not only grammatical and spelling errors but also continuity problems it was hard to stay focused on the story. When did the Sig Sauer become a Winchester? I know her readers are always looking for the next book in a hurry, but she sacrificed the book in her hurry to get it done. Please, Ms Hamilton don’t sacrifice your talent just to meet a deadline!
There's so much contrived violence in this story, feuled by illogical decisions and unreasonable actions. And it's unbelievable that they always seem to have what they need despite the fact they couldn't possibly pack it all on their journey.
But the characters are compelling and Andrew Tell voices them distinctly with his excellent narration. This is pretty typical post-apocalyptic fiction.

The struggles, actions, and consequences in this one are unexpected. I've being reading Ms Hamilton's books for quite some time and this one stopped me dead in my tracks. This whole trilogy is different from others, and while survival is paramount, this family handles it much differently and faces different challenges that we've experienced before. I liked the change of pace even if the characters didn't seem as compelling.
I have not read the first couple books in this series, but it didn’t matter too much.
This is a post apocalyptic story. A family is in the wilds of British Columbia and has just spent the winter in a cave. Spring comes and they decide to finish their journey to a family cabin in the mountains. Choosing the wrong trail leads to a series of devastating events.
A great story with realistic characters and a lot of action.
The final saga, the end of the journey. They endured an EMP strike. Attacked by a band of thieves, murderers who ok their home from them. Now the Healy family is on the last leg of their journey to a cabin in the woods of British Columbia only to be attacked again. This is a story of survival, true grit. Fight or perish. An excellent three book series!! Enjoyed immensely!!
Survive the Journey by Grace Hamilton is an amazing story to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have been so hooked on and I can not wait to see what this talented author will write next. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about contemporary romance.

Trouble, trouble and more trouble seems a dark cloud hangs over the Healy family in most interesting post apocalyptic series. Unfortunately, most of their troubles are caused by their own incompetence. Seems they haven’t learned to stop rushing around like headless chickens. Will they survive? There will be surprises.
Lots of action and fast paced. This was the best of the series. Absolutely loved it! Great series of family and survival in a time where you can only trust those closest to you. It was great watching the family grow and adapt. As usual Andrew Tell did an great job narrating. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I liked this one better than book 2. The family had to move from their home after the town manager took the farm.Holding up in an old winter camp cave they make do until the pass opens. Then the crazy starts again. Andrew Tell was a terrific narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I kept reading hoping the book would improve, it did not. Characters were too quirky for my taste, I did not find any of them that likeable . Some books draw the reader into the story and you hate to see them end , this was not one of those books.
Another great part to this exciting EMP end of the world series from Grace Hamilton! Enjoyable exiting end of the world adventure! I do recommend this series & story!
This story is food for thought if something similar ever happened. Surviving such a situation would require preparation which is something everyone should do.
