Una recopilación bastante completa y amena de la mitología egipcia.
En las (relativamente) pocas páginas que tiene, creo que hace una síntesis muy buena de los principales Dioses de Egipto, agrupados en "familias" y lugares de origen de culto para que sea más fácil aclararse entre tantas deidades. Se narran también los principales mitos de una forma muy comprensible y entretenida.
Resumiendo... a pesar de ser un tema denso y lioso, no se hace tostón en ningún momento. Muy recomendable como complemento para entender la cultura egipcia y gran parte de su arte, especialmente el de las tumbas.

A pesar de que la mitología egipcia es muy compleja y que ha ido variando a lo largo de los miles de años en que el pueblo egipcio vivió en ella, este libro nos da una idea introductoria, simple y fácil de entender en pocas páginas.

Cada capítulo recoge distintas historias sobre la creación de los dioses, su relación entre ellos y algunos son específicos de dioses que tuvieron gran importancia en la cultura y aparecen continuamente en las paredes de templos y tumbas que han perdurado hasta la actualidad.

Conociendo los mitos de una cultura podemos saber cómo era la forma de vida ya que estos proporcionaban información acerca de cómo creían que se creó el mundo, los valores morales adecuados por los que debían regirse y las normas que tenían para conducirse en la vida.

Un libro sumamente interesante para amantes del Antiguo Egipto o de la historia antigua en general.

Especial mención a la estupenda edición de Alianza Editorial que tiene todo lo que me gusta en un libro: una cubierta preciosa, un libro cómodo y resistente, una letra de tamaño perfecto y un precio muy asequible.

Informative if not a tad dry...but In fairness I think ultimately this is a reference book it's just I would be keen to read these tales and creation myths(as bizzare as some are)in a maybe mass reader friendly type collection whereby a contemporary author has dissected and rewrote them in a more friendlier fluid fashion.
Such a thing has been done in the norse legends afterall....that said it did inform and I come away knowing something more of whom was whom in regard Egyptian mythology.

Se hace muy ameno ya que hay diferentes relatos y a parte de mitos lo complementa con ciertos datos científicos.
A demás si hay algo que no comprendes puedes consultar el glosario en el cual hay toda la información que necesites saber

Obra de lectura obligatoria para todo el que quiera adentrarse en el mundo de la mitología egipcia. He leído bastante sobre esta civilización y éste es el primer autor que –en mi humilde opinión– hace una síntesis perfecta sobre los principales dioses y mitos. No obstante, es necesario que se tenga en cuenta que se trata de una síntesis hecha sobre un mundo de una complejidad inmensa, por lo que quizás no sea una obra adecuada para alguien que quiera profundizar en ello a un nivel muy exigente. Ya el índice me resultó prometedor, pues a diferencia de muchos otros destinados a este tema, nos ofrece una organización que considero extraordinaria, pues es realmente difícil lograr una cierta coherencia temática en lo que se refiere a la mitología egipcia, debido a su complejidad. El equilibrio entre texto e ilustraciones me ha resultado magnífico, habiendo sido éstas elegidas de manera muy acertada. Resulta complicado perderse en los nombres y funciones de las distintas divinidades, lo que para mí ya resulta un logro tremendo. Se podría decir que el autor divide a las principales divinidades en tres grandes grupos: la Gran Enéada de Heliópolis, la Tríada de Menfis y la Tríada de Tebas (divididos a su vez en capítulos sobre cada uno de los dioses y sobre mitos importantes), para después dedicar otros capítulos a otras divinidades destacables, explicando dónde, cómo y por qué surgen. Al final, ofrece un glosario, un esquema de todos los dioses tratados, una breve (aunque útil) cronología, el antiguo calendario egipcio y una relación de museos y bibliografía. En conclusión, una obra totalmente recomendable para todo amante de la egiptología.

A classic book explaining the myths and gods of ancient Egypt written in a lively and easy to read style. Stories and myths are re-told with simplicity, with reference to where we can see the same in the monuments in Egypt and with photographs and drawings of all Gods in their characteristic forms. As it is not a heavy, reference book, it is an ideal accompaniment for those travelling to Egypt to explore ancient Egyptian temples and monuments. All the reliefs and paintings will get a new meaning when you know the connection between Gods, different stories and the overall belief system of ancient Egypt.
If you want to know more than just Horus, Orisis and Isis which every guide worth his/her salt will talk about during your visits to Egyptian monuments, then this is the book for you..Easy read and comprehensive and well researched and illustrated. Recommended.

I have loads of books on Ancient Egypt but picked this up second hand in the Oxfam shop on Edgeware Road. Excellent, short, no-nonsense book on the gods and where their stories came from. Its by an academic who is not an Egyptologist but actually a professor of English. He understands stories and what needs to be said about them.

I know this book is meant as a readable popular introduction to Egyptian mythology, so I don't expect it to be as detailed as a more scholarly book on the same subject. But I can't help thinking that it could still have been more thoughtful than it is. For instance, when it retells a myth, it doesn't say which elements of the myth came from which sources—even in the classic example, the Osiris myth, where it's fairly easy to point out the large chunk of material that comes from Plutarch's retelling of the story rather than from the disparate Egyptian sources. Armour doesn't consistently explain the symbolism that lies behind so many of the strange events in mythology. When he does so, he's just as likely to use the outdated interpretations of early 20th century scholars as to cite those whose work was current when he wrote the book.

The book is organized into chapters on particular major gods, in which Armour describes the myths surrounding each deity, with less consistent coverage of how deities were worshipped. As a result, it does give a good impression of the character of each deity. In that regard, it resembles another book that was published around the same time, The Gods of Ancient Egypt by Barbara Watterson. There are chapters on the Ennead, Ra, Osiris and Isis, Horus, the conflict between Horus and Seth, Hathor, the Memphite Triad (Ptah, Sekhmet, and Nefertum), the Theban Triad (Amun, Mut, and Khonsu), Thoth and Maat, Anubis, and three fertility gods (Hapi, Khnum, and Min). The end matter includes a more thorough catalogue of Egyptian deities and a useful but dated list of further reading.

More recent and thorough treatments of this topic include Egyptian Mythology by Geraldine Pinch, The Penguin Book of Myths and Legends of Ancient Egypt by Joyce Tyldesley, and The Egyptian Myths by Garry Shaw.

الأسطورة جزء من التاريخ ام التاريخ جزء من الاسطورة؟؟...

كل المجتمعات والحضارات القديمة تملك رصيدا كافيا من الميثولوجيا تتناقلها الافواه والاقلام حتى تصل إلى الأقلام الجديدة لنجد السحر والغرابة والجمال المتفرد في تلك الحكايات التي قد تتشابه... حيث لا تجد حد فاصل بين الشرق والغرب وكلمة السر دائما كانت الأسطورة... فالاساطير احيانا هي ما تصنع التاريخ مثلها مثل العادات والتقاليد التي تكون مترسخة في عصب المجتمع صاحب الأسطورة...

انا كشخص واسع الخيال دائما ما كنت متعلقا منذ الصغر بالميثولوجيا اليونانية وأساطيرها وتلك المساحة الخصبة من الخيال التي تجعلني لا اتوقف لحظة عن الاستمتاع بها ومع التقدم في السن وزيادة قرائاتي في مجال الميثولوجيا عموما... وجدت ان علم الأسطورة والحكايات الخرافية لم يكن محصورا في اليونان والغرب فقط فنحن أيضا كشرقيين نملك اساطيرنا الخاصة... ودعني اكون اكثر خصوصية في هذة المراجعة نحن أيضا كمصريين نمتلك ما يكفي من الأساطير والحكايات التي لا تقل ابداعا ومتعة عن الميثولوجيا اليونانية ولكننا فقط لا نجيد تسوقيها جيدا لنا للأجيال الجديدة وللمجتمع الغربي باقلامنا نحن أصحاب الحكايات لا باقلامهم هم....

خليني بس أوضح بعض النقاط... إن دي اول تجربة قراءة ليا مع الميثولوجيا الفرعونية... الكتاب رغم كونه مترجم لكن الكاتب كان مهتم جدا بالمحتوي وتبسيطه وتنظيمه كويس جدا وزي ما واضح من عنوانه... فهو اهتم في محتواه في الحديث عن الألهة في الحضارة الفرعونية القديمة والحديثة والتاسوع وثالوث طيبة وثالوث ممفيس... وكل آله كان بيحاول يجمع معلومات عنه ذكرت على جدران المعابد وشكله الجسماني او الصورة اللي أتصور عليها والاساطير والحكايات اللي مرتبطة بالاله ده...فالكتاب يعتبر مدخل سلس وسهل وممتع في التعرف على عالم الميثولوجيا الفرعونية حاول الكاتب فيه والمراجع بدوره الذي اساسا مختص في الكتابة عن التاريخ الفرعوني وراجل اكاديمي في المجال ان يقدموا وجبة لذيذة تشبع خيالي وعقلي كقارئ مهتم ومحب للميثولوجيا مع ترجمة أمينة حافظت فيها المترجمة على روح النص الأصلي

Desde que existimos como especie hemos creado historias para explicar lo que sucede a nuestro alrededor, para pautar unas normas de convivencia, una forma de actuar, una ética y una moral.

Las religiones han organizado estás creencias y las han usado para crear una identidad, un sentimiento de unidad. Pero al final todas tratan los mismos temas, las mismas inquietudes, las mismas necesidades. Porque al final todas están hechas por y para el ser humano.

Los mitos del Antiguo Egipto, junto con los mesopotámicos, son de los primeros de los que tenemos constancia escrita.

Se trata de historias que van evolucionando conforme lo hace la sociedad en la que se crearon. Se ve muy claramente cómo a lo largo de la Historia del Antiguo Egipto la importancia de los dioses va cambiando en función de dónde se ubica el poder.

Cada ciudad adora a unos dioses por encima de otros, y cuando el poder cambia de núcleo la mitología tiene que adaptarse, asumiendo nuevas relaciones entre las deidades.

Pero el verdadero poder son las palabras. Somos contadores de historias desde tiempos inmemoriales, historias que nos unen, que crean vínculos, que nos entretienen alrededor de una hoguera, por las que matamos y por las que nos matan. Narrativas que dan sentido a nuestras vivencias, a nuestra existencia, y que conforman lo que somos y lo que no somos.

Sintético y esquemático acercamiento a la mitología egipcia, esclarecedor en todos sus breves capítulos y acompañado de gran cantidad de ilustraciones perfectas para acompañar la lectura.

Los apéndices que acompañan la obra, especialmente el listado de deidades y sus características, rematan una obra clave para quien esté interesado en acercarse a estos mundos milenarios.
