Gemma is a divorced mother of two adult sons. She also is dying in a hospital after a tragic accident. They're giving her the good drugs to manage her pain, which is why she’s dreaming about waking in the future with a twenty-year-old body and meeting a hot space pirate. Big claims he’s a clone, and she’s one too. What happens when Gemma’s dream turns out to be reality?
Blade
Hailey’s been kidnapped off her mining colony planet and is trapped on board a luxury space shuttle with the bad men who took her. She manages to lock herself inside the captain’s cabin, hoping to be rescued. But it’s not the authorities who hack the lock. It’s a clone. Blade admits to being a space pirate, but he swears he’s going to keep her safe. He may be attractive…but can a clone also be trustworthy?
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
Okay.. So I loved both tales in this book. Book 1, "Big" sets up the tone and color of this world quite nicely.🤩
Our story here begins in the year 2020 but ends in the year 2141. We learn that when it comes to the politics of the land and other worlds, not all that much has changed, EXCEPT our abilities to enhance the "God Complex" through advanced technology and the slave trade. Scary, intense, and heartbreaking stuff here.. I loved Big and Gemma together. Their genesis and outcome was beyond sweet. Entertaining. And I was completely hooked. I gave their story 4.5 🌟
The next story in this book, "Blade" begins in the year 2141. His story gives and expounds a little more on the history of Clones. Their purpose and abilities. We also get more information and reminders of what was mentioned in Big's story as well...
I have to say though I love both Big and Blade as individuals, I definitely love Blade's character more. He's just rougher. More edge with his grit. He's been through alot. Had to overcome more in a very brief amount of time.. I was hooked from the start of his story with he and Hailey. How he met her, and what occurs shortly thereafter. Very intense. But still incredibly sweet.. Because I enjoyed Blade and Hailey more, their plight, and outcome, I gave Blade's story 5 ✨
Both stories in this first book, gives us a very heartbreaking and truthful look about the human condition. The cruelty of man and how it knows no boundaries. But also the unwavering strength of the purity of love.
This book is very interesting. Simpleton solutions to a small degree, but no less entertaining or intense. I would recommend this read. I am moving on to book 2, F Clones, in this series. Wish me luck 🤞
There is said to be 6 Clones this series is to cover. But as of now, there are only 2 books out. But you learn about all of the Clones in book 1. I'm guessing the final book, when/if it comes out, will be called R Clones..
Both B Clones, and F Clones, books are not on KU but very cheap for purchase $2.99.
These books contain two brief stories in each. Both stories in each book consist of just ten chapters.
I love LD's books, but this one, tough sweet and romantic, was not up to her others... The style was wierd... They are clones but they talk like robots! Also the things get solved so very easily... I thought there would be some really tight situations, but I was left down... Everything was solved with almost no problems... Blade's story was slightly more complecated, but just slightly... Both H and h were unbelievably good! Neither had any faults - they were just... perfect! Nobody is that perfect! I hope the next in the series will be more...
Me resultó raro.
No digo que estuviera mal pero fue poco creíble ya que Gemma no actuaba de acuerdo a su edad. Debería, ya que ella era mayor en su mente. Por más que decía que era una mamá genial. No me convenció.
*sigh* I was disappointed, and I hate saying that because Dohner's on my must buy list, but these two stories lacked a lot.
Gemma and Big's story was boring to me. I understand there has to be world building but there were some areas that drug on. I was also thinking while reading that being an only viable option doesn't equal love. It seemed that Big was going to attach to anyone seeing he's lonely. And because there's only one option, it must be love. Really?
Blade and Hailey's story was a bit better, however it just ended. Blade came up with solutions to Hailey's dilemma's but you never know if things transpire the way they were laid out because the story just ENDS.
Lastly, the titles are a bit childish. B clones for Big and Blade. Apparently there will be F Clones for Fig and Free. Just screams lack of creativity.
Nice to see a new series by one of my favorite authors. It kind of reminds me of the cyborg series:
We got 2 stories here; Big and Blade. I liked both clones, they have a strong will to survive and lucky for them, they get to find some happiness too.
Quite a few typos and Gemma was annoying with her "it's just a dream" thing. I'm happy that Blade was able to find a good solution to Hailey's problem.
This book was not up to the authors usual standards. There was no real conflict and it seemed like it was written by a beginner writer. I just couldn't get into the characters.
Interesting world building, fledgling idea that needs more massaging. Don't want to be a Spoiler but nagging questions are who says they are sterile and why are they sterile? If grown from human DNA the reproductive system is intertwined with the growth system and endocrine system and mechanically interfering with egg or spark delivery or maturity is much easier and scientifically possible than producing sterile clone products. Sorry to say, but if science can make a whole person, that will be a fully working person even if it decays 3 months later.
I would love to see the New Species series tackle the Breed female stories that were set up and their infertility issues. Plus the world meeting New species kids en masse.
b Clones is a great idea that still needs some percolating. It deserves a 3.5 but I just can't give Ms. Dohner a 3 star review. Her new series are always a must buy for me (example Veslor series).
Heart warming, steamy sexy and sensual scenes!! I am always in awe when it comes to Luarann's stories. In this case, 2 clones who have more compassion and caring; towards the feelings, needs and wants of the women they've fallen in love with. For Gemma, to wake up and find herself in the future, and not knowing what happened with her loved ones. I can't even fathom what that most be for her!! Big is such a sweetheart 😍 and wow, sexy, sexy, sexy... that's all I'm going to say. Now, Hailey, 100% human and raised the same way it was back home from where I come from, it was nice to read. She was kidnapped by pirates, she hid from them on the vessel they had her and Blade found and rescues her. They fall for each other but she's the one that started to flirt with him and gets him to kiss her. Blade was also kidnapped by pirates, but he decided to end his ordeal once he finds and rescues Hailey. It broke my heart when he was crying thinking he had to let her go back to her family. After all he's a man of honor and he would never keep her from them. 🥰 I can't wait for the next book!! These two clones are so hot, but... I can't wait to meet Rod!!! 🤤
My first thought is oh no it's not New Species. But an author should go where her muse takes her and this was one fantastic ride. BIG Is it a dream or reality? Imagine waking up in the future inside a body that is not yours. Gemma was fatally injured and thought she was dreaming, it's a new Century and technology has come so far. People from the past are cloned. She's not supposed to have retained memories. Big is also a clone, an escaped one and saves her life. A very entertaining read with wonderful characters. BLADE Blade is also a clone. He saves someone kidnapped by pirates from the current time. Taking her home would cost him his life. This was also a riveting read.
I'm really looking forward to more in this series.
This is two books in one book. Story 1 is Big the clone and Story 2 is Blade the clone.
Both find love and have some sexy times.
I liked both books but Blade was better. He will do anything to make his heroine happy (even considers kidnapping her parents to come live with him so she will be happy)
This author has once again captivated me with her imagination and writing style. These brief stories had me glued to the seat of my chair until the very end. I already can’t wait to read the next book about the clones and the ladies who love them.
Big An unexpected surprise What a fantastic story to start the newest adventure with! I love the characters, they are both so different and yet at heart they are both lonely souls looking for their mate. I enjoyed the humor the author was able to capture in intense emotional moments, it really kept the story moving and captivating. The introduction to the other clones will keep me anxiously awaiting the next installment as each of the six find their HEA. 5 stars
Blade Just in knick of time What an amazing story! Both characters were strong and resilient and able to partially save themselves until they gave each other the final assist. The author brought the action when Blade found something worth taking the final step for. I really loved the way they slowly built up the trust and love between them. The author really did a fantastic job with these gentle souls and I love how Gemma was the voice of reason when they needed it. I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see which clone finds love next. 5 stars
It turns out that clones ain't my thing. All other monsters, no problem. It reminds me of Westworld, which I love, but not on this format. Won't read the rest of the series and I am sad cause I love almost all her books.
Laurann Dohner is back with a new series. She's reaching back into her bag of tricks and pulling out clones now. And similar to her last two New Species books, this is a two-in-one novel.
It's the year 2141, and Clone World Inc has become the premier place to satisfy one's needs for all things in the world of cloning. They can make anything. With the legal comes the illegal, which is how Gemma wakes up 121 years in the future in a new body, confused and gladly surrendering to the space pirate who has come to board and salvage her ship and who promises to explain everything to her. She's dreaming, so it's safe to go with sexy strangers--there are no serial killers in her coma induced dreams.
The two male clones introduced are Big and Blade--clearly Dohner names, and while we are at it, we have clearly Dohner female names with A,E,I,O,U and sometimes Y --> Gemma and Hailey.
Big and Blade are sort of the same character. It's not until far into Blade's story that I started to feel like each character was differentiated from one another. And then when next to one another, yeah, it was easier.
I do like Gemma a lot. And Hailey as well. Gemma is a freaking hoot when she meets up with Hailey.
But, I did come away scratching my head about the things in this book that I always do from Laurann Dohner's books. Where do these people get all this space milk, and how did so many cows escape global warming. And with how these peeps are eating them, are they long for extinction? I mean, really?
I like the premise of this new series but the editing was horrendous. Almost did get past the first few chapters. The book about Blade was much better.
1st read =i have always oved Lauran dohner books but this one just isn't one for me it just reads odd and not like her usual books there's no connection to to the character's , stiff progress or a connection there environment.
2ed read = 4 stars , I just kept thinking about how much I love Lauren’s books and thought it might have been me in a book slump in August so I re-read b clones from the beginning and it was actually so good 😊 two stories in one it’s a good start to a new series. I will read the next books x
Terrible. This book has 2 stories. Both guys Big and Blade are clones. Big finds a female clone . She died 100 years ago has her memories so he is afraid she will go insane. They have sex and he keeps telling her she is clone and has a new life ahead. His friend gets info on the woman`s kids she at the time before she died, because she wanted to know what happened to them. The book is boring and the same talk over and over again.. no thanks. The second story is not better. She got kidnapped he finds her on that ship, the guys that kidnapped her are dead, drug overdose. So he takes her with, after killing the guys he came with in the first place for they where evil. Conversations are boring, they have sex and of course she also is all into " only "him ( like there are any other options when they are alone on a ship duhhhhhh ). I think she is not a clone just a human. Anyway, the conversations of them got on my nerves so I just stopped reading it. Both stories have no depth to them, boring as hell, the same talk all over and over again.. I had to skip parts before I got crazy reading this nonsense over and over again. Wouldn`t you think if the author once explained what clones are would be enough? Reading this over and over again , drove me insane. Does she think we readers have Alzheimers? And this having sex right away, no decent woman would do that. Both of the women in this book act like they are teenagers and had no life before... just unreal. No one is like THAT , no one would react like that. Oh, the guy found me so I love him because the sex was so good, I would never fall for any other , he is the one and only... what a absolute nonsense after you had a terrible experience and just got rescued. I can not believe L Dohner wrote those stories. If you know the New Species series and the Cyborg books, you know she can do way better. I noticed the newer books lack everything. And this one really tops all of the worse books you can imagine. I really can NOT recommend this book. I am not just disappointed I am really angry. How can you put this on the market and ask for payment?! It is an insult to the reader. Makes me feel betrayed and ripped off ! And that is my opinion on the books and on this matter.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I think this is the first time EVER I've given LD a low rating... Let me say that this is ONLY DUE TO MY PERSONAL AVERSION TO CLONES not her writing or character development. That was on point as always. You could say I am like the "humans" in the book. I don't like clones, I don't like to think of them existing and hugely pray that the technique is never perfected outside of Science Fiction.
This was really a DNF at 50%. I only read the 1st story Big and have not been able to go back to read Blade. When I read, it is for pleasure and to put myself in the place of the heroines and go off on an adventure. Well, that really sucked for me with Emma. It made me constantly think of my mortality and having that happen to me. I know it is inevitable and will happen to all of us one day, but ever since I've been little I go into panic attacks when thinking of it. I'm way to attached to my loved one and simply do not want to leave them. Basically, this plot touched on a sensitive topic for me and although I tried to push through it, I was not able to enjoy it as I normally do a Laurann Dohner book. :-(
I lover her writing and stories that her books are the top on my to re-read list. I've re-read most of them about 5-6 time already. That's how much I love her writing and am constantly on the lookout for her newest publication. So the 3 stars on this book are really for her and her talent.
The last thing Gemma remembered before waking up on a spaceship, was being in hospital after an accident. Suddenly, she’s finding out she’s a clone, and that she’s living in the future! Big was made as a security clone, but escaped servitude. When he discovers Gemma, he is certain she is the answers to all his prayers...
Blade and Hailey
When Hailey is kidnapped from a poor mining colony, she manages to evade her captors temporarily. She is rescued by Blade, a clone who had been captured by pirates. Saving her from pirates puts Blade in a bad situation, promising to get her back to her parents makes it an impossible one. Blade is the best man Hailey has ever known, so how can she choose between him and her family?
These two stories begin a new short series by Laurann. It’s an enjoyable one though, with all the good sci-fi romance topics and tropes fans enjoy, along with the engaging writing style of a seasoned sci-fi romance author. The stories are each interlinked by a background storyline, but each story is individual, with a complete romance and a happily ever after- no cliffhangers! It makes for a fun read, and is an excellent way to while away your weekend or evening. Pull up your reading chair, snuggle under a cozy blanket, and enjoy 😉. Recommended for Laurann Dohner fans and sci-fi romance fans.
While I appreciated reading this book it was too easy. A lot of things were not addressed. And this book has two separate stories, so they were super short and honestly not given enough world and character building that it deserved. Besides that, I found these stories mildly depressing. Other than the advancement of humanity into the stars everything was still really bleak for the majority of individuals be they clone or human. It really wasn’t enjoyable for a romance story in that sense.
So combined with the shortness of each story, the depressing factors of each characters lives, there was also no epilogue to show a HEA for either tale, this was a nice enough book that I wish I had never read. I was left bored because everything was “resolved”, (for lack of a better word), way too easily and then I was left unsatisfied with the somewhat abrupt ending. Considering this author’s other book series’, this one comes off as either really lazy writing or a lack of imagination or a bit of both.
Anyway, it was an okay read, I just felt like I wasted my time. Good luck.
She never stops writing great SyFi. I've read every book she has written an never get disappointed. There are two couples that find themselves together in this first book. Some are cloned and some are not. Some are illegal and some are from a backwater mining planet. The pirates aren't sexy in this world, their nasty humans no one wants to deal with. Earth has made it legal to make androids, robots and clones. Clones may be made on earth but they are not allowed to be activated on planet or retain the memories of the host. Most are shipped to Clone World a human Vacation and amusement destination. Find out how Big Gemma, Blade and Hailey all come to find themselves living in the outskirts of space to be happy. DanaLynn
I started reading this book in March 2021 and only got as far as reading Big's story but cannot bring myself to finishing the rest of the book. I love Laurann Dohner's New Species series and wish she would continue with that series as I find this new series really lacking any driving storyline or plot. It just feels flat and there is nothing that really is pulling me to come back to find out what happens next because nothing really is happening in the story in the first place. I really wanted to love this series but it just did not meet the same level as her New Species series. Giving it 2 stars because the characters were likeable and the storyline had potential but there just was not enough there to keep me interested.
Great start to a new series which I hope will continue with more stories for the other 4 Clones who escaped Clone World. In the first story, Gemma is a clone with her complete memory intact as a human. She is rescued by Big, a clone who escaped from Clone World. They fall fast and hard for each other. Clones do feel emotions. In the second story, Blade, who also escaped from Clone World, rescues Hailey from some evil pirates. Hailey, a human, was kidnapped from her home world. They take their time to get to know each other and fall hard for each other too. Note: the book needs to be reviewed for typos.
4 1/2 stars for me😃 I’m taking off 1/2 star because the two stories here, while very enjoyable, just weren’t long enough (only 10 chapters each). I NEEDED MORE Big and Blade!😍 Great world building; gives us a comprehensive overview of this futuristic world where clones are created for specific “jobs”, with no rights or autonomy and threatened with punishment/death constantly 👀 They’re treated very poorly and with a lot of prejudice by nearly all of the human race, simply because they weren’t born the “usual” way🤬 Six clones manage to escape Clone World (yay!) with the help of a sympathetic human. B Clones is Big and Blade’s stories after that escape. I do recommend👍😍
In this newest book from Laurann Dohner, cloned are slaves and treated like property. If a cloned messes up; then they are dead and replaced with a new one. Big and some of this fellow clones escape from the Clone World resort with the help of a sympathetic human. This book shows how two of the escapees have managed to create a life free of the hatred of humans. I loved it and am looking forward to the next one. Steamy and romantic with hot clones and space pirates. What more can you ask for?
2.5 stars, so I'm being generous with these 3. I love Laurann, but this book felt so weak. Pandemic fodder, I guess. The story began with some good, fast-paced, to-the-point writing, very typical of Dohner, but somehow she just dropped the ball... It was too cheesy. I mean, keep in mind that my husband told me he loved me 3 days after we met 😄 so I'm not really against that. The problem was the over-the-top neediness, especially by the male characters. I'm OK with instalust, developing a crush and even feeling in love (very normal when young) but not the clingy, angsty behavior. It made me cringe, honestly. Also, I thought this was going to be an interesting world, as Laurann is capable of depicting one without too many details, just enough to make you feel in the middle of it... however, again, this wasn't the case here. The world was more of a boring backdrop, felt almost like a gimmick, like "Oh, my life is hard because I'm a clone, believe you me." We experience no real conflict whatsoever, we're just TOLD things are so and so. Meh. Both stories are so basic that I just don't see why they couldn't be merged into one.
