Scholomance has been saved… for now. But the war with the elder gods is just beginning. Cole and his coven must meet with the High Wicca Court and then prepare their Academy for the next attack. But the elder gods have underestimated just how much Cole wants to see them all dead, and it is a mistake they will pay dearly for.
Alright, Satan's scholars, welcome back to the academy where failure is fatal, homework is hellfire, and Cole is about to graduate from student to warlord. If you've made it this far into Scholomance, you already know the unholy trinity: powerful magic, dark desires, and a protagonist who was over-powered on day one. Scholomance 5 doesn't reinvent the devilish wheel but throws it into overdrive, making it arguably the most action-packed and consequential installment yet. This is where the story shifts from schoolyard survival to cosmic war, and for fans of the series, it's a bloody, sexy, and deeply satisfying escalation. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 stars—it delivers exactly what its loyal audience craves, and then some.
Key Themes The Escalation from Academy to Army: The core theme here is the transition from internal squabbles to external, existential war. The synopsis sets the stage perfectly: "Scholomance has been saved… for now. But the war with the elder gods is just beginning". The entire book explores this by forcing Cole and his coven to think and act like military commanders, preparing the entire academy for an assault and learning spells designed for one purpose: deicide. The personal vendetta becomes a strategic campaign.
Power Through Unity and Expansion: A constant in the series is Cole's growing influence, measured in both magical and carnal conquest. This book continues that theme by adding new, powerful witches to his coven. These aren't just romantic additions; they represent the consolidation of power and the strengthening of his inner circle as a weapon against the gods. As one reader aptly noted, the books excel at showing "the building tension" that makes each new addition meaningful.
The Morality of Absolute Power: The series has always reveled in its inverted morality, where the "good" guys are Satan-worshipping witches. This book tests that framework further. Cole's singular desire to see the elder gods "all dead" and the extreme measures he takes raise the stakes, asking the reader to root for a protagonist whose ruthlessness is his greatest asset in a war against literal deities.
Character Analysis Cole: The amnesiac male witch cements his role not just as the most powerful student, but as the linchpin of the entire academy's defense. His development here is about embracing leadership on a massive scale. He's no longer just surviving; he's strategizing, learning god-killing magic, and positioning himself as the only one with the "willpower and strength" for what's to come. He remains confidently overpowered, which is the entire point of the power fantasy.
The Coven: The existing members of Cole's inner circle continue to grow in power and loyalty, their bonds strengthened by the impending war. The major development is the addition of new witches to the group. Fans enjoy speculating about who will join next, and this book delivers on that anticipation, enriching the group's dynamic and power base.
The Elder Gods: They shift from a distant, ominous threat to an active, invading force. This gives the series a clear, high-stakes antagonist that moves the plot beyond the academy's walls.
Writing Style & Pacing Logan Jacobs's prose remains fast, functional, and focused on forward momentum. The tone is darkly humorous and unapologetically geared toward adult wish-fulfillment. The pacing is the book's standout feature. Multiple reviews highlight it as "more action packed than volumes 1 to 4" and a "page turner". The shift to a war footing means the story moves at a breakneck speed, with political maneuvering before the High Wicca Court giving way to large-scale magical battles. At 461 pages, it's a substantial but incredibly bingeable read.
What I Liked & Disliked Liked:
The Raised Stakes: The full-scale war against the elder gods is a fantastic escalation. It gives the series a renewed sense of purpose and danger that the school-centric plots were starting to lose.
Epic Battle Scenes: Readers praised the large battle at the school, calling it "epic" and one of the best magical battle scenes they've read. The action is creative and satisfyingly large in scale.
Series Payoff: This feels like a turning point. As one fan put it, "Book 5 I feel is the opening to the major plot of the series," which is exciting for long-time readers.
Disliked:
Formula Fatigue: If you're not invested in the very specific harem/power-fantasy formula, this won't win you over. The beats of acquiring new coven members and Cole's unwavering dominance can feel repetitive.
Predictable Victories: With such an overpowered protagonist, the tension often lies in how he'll win, not if. This can lessen the impact of some conflicts for readers seeking more narrative risk.
Conclusion & Recommendation Scholomance 5 is a series-high that proves this dark saga still has potent magic. It successfully trades the classroom for the battlefield, delivering higher stakes, bigger fights, and meaningful progression for its anti-hero.
You should absolutely read this if: You're a fan of the first four books. This is the payoff you've been waiting for, and it sets the stage for an even grander conflict. You love fast-paced dark fantasy where the protagonist's power is the main attraction, and you enjoy the series' particular blend of magic, strategy, and steamy romance. Don't start here. This is Book 5 of 12, and you will be utterly lost. Also, if the harem elements or Cole's brand of arrogant dominance turned you off in earlier books, this installment doubles down on those aspects.
Final Verdict: For its target audience, this is a near-perfect sequel. It's a wicked, action-packed, and immensely satisfying read that had me plowing through it in a couple of days. The community ratings don't lie—with nearly 60% of readers giving it 5 stars, this is a fan-favorite for a reason. The war is on, and I, for one, am enlisted for the duration.
Cole has to save his Coven, his school, and all the witches from a fight against the Elder Gods. He needs to learn what spells are best for killing God's because only he has the willpower and strength for these spells. His coven also gains 2 more beautiful witches, whom he has great sex with as well as each of the other coven too.
Another fun read that I couldn't put down and I can't wait for more.
I have ready a few of this authors series, and this one is by far my favorite. The characters are intriguing, I am eager to learn more about Cole’s history as the story unfolds. I am also eager to learn who will be the next to join the coven and I hope that we’ll continue to see building tension between Cole and Vanessa. It will make the inevitable event of her becoming a part of the group so much sweeter. I’d like Cole to use the power he holds over his coven to pull the truth of how Vanessa feels about him from her, similar to how he did to akira in the earlier books. This series is one that I definitely look for regularly when I’m searching for a new book to read!
I'll be the first to admit when I started this series, it was with trepidation at such an unusual setting and plot. But boy was I glad I have this series a chance, as it has quickly become one of my favorite series by Logan Jacobs. And this latest installment in the series, with new and deadly spells, monsters and enemies... Not to mention the gorgeous coven of witches, is the best one yet!
To 100 reviews as soon as possible, so we can get the next one!
This is an amazing series, with well written characters that continue to grow with each other. Cole continues to increase in his powers, gaining internal strength as well as from his Coven! Tested by the High Council Witches, and in a large battle at the school he continues to prevail! His coven grows again with the addition of another hot sexy witch! I'm all this has been a great series so far! You should read the Series while we wait for book six!
War comes to Scholomance in book 5. More action, more violence and more romance (Cole style) in this volume.the Elder Gods are not happy and they plan to take out Cole, his coven, all the witches at Scholomance and the school itself. It's up to Cole to save the day and is it epic. If you hs ent started this series yet, get on it now!
So I thought that maybe some of the action went to fast, but then I realized that the deeper writing of Logan Jacobs is focused on the buildup and consequences, decisions and relationships that bring this episode to its inevitable conclusion - and I liked it. Scholooking forward to the next one
Once again LJ has spun a wonderful tale. I do wonder at the lack of physical punishment. It is, after all, a school and a strict one. Death cannot be the only punishment! And they are Satan's witches. One might think that witches were a tad more feral. This is not a complaint at all. Merely a suggestion.
This book continues the adventures of Cole and his coven of witches at the Scholomance school for magic. It takes a different approach then most magic stories as the “good guys” are the Satan worshipers and the “god worshippers” are the bad guys. There is plenty of action and romance. The story is exciting and it is very easy to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, so much so that I practically tore through it. Cole and the ladies of Scholomance must protect themselves and the school from obliteration. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.
The story continues with more battles and more challenges and we have to wait and see what happens to our main characters and if they can overcome the challenges that are heading their way. I think it does a pretty good job with the battles and stuff and it's an enjoyable read I will definitely get the next book hope it comes out soon.
This is truly a dark fantasy without equal and just an all around epic story! The detail and vibrancy of the world and the incredible characters is absolutely amazing!
Mr. Jacobs start writing the next book. This series has become my favorite of all. It has everything you could ask for its perfection. The only thing missing is Cole saying kill them all and let Satan sort them out!!
I’m not really sure what is next here.. I feel like the dynamic/ formula has changed. This is obviously risky, but I have enough faith in the author and the premise of the story, to see it paid off. 9/10
This author has easily become one of my favorites in this genre. The characters and worlds he creates are truly amazing. I'm anxiously looking forward to the next book and seeing how he develops the MC and his group. Keep up the good work Mr Jacobs!
Did not see that fight coming. Not the sweet new spells. The fallout from some of the deaths will be fun to read about and I really want to learn more about the ancient witches that are back.
This is one of my favorite series and I would highly recommend reading it. Book 5 I feel is the opening to the major plot of the series and I'm excited to see where book 6 takes us.
I like some of Logan Jacob's other books, so I gave this series a try - it's a mystical school harem book, which I'm fine with. The pacing is good, the writing is fine, the sex is palatable, the developments are predictable but I'm into it. Let's see where he takes me.
I'm surprised how this series keeps getting better. This one had an epic battle with Cole on the front lines. Hopefully Cole can turn his eyes toward his professors.
