This was first released as part of the Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret boxed set in October of 2020 and is now being released as a standalone. It is a lovely and fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed – especially when I get two romances within one book! The writing is excellent and the story is interesting and well-plotted. I’m hoping to see more books featuring the Marquess of Reading’s children – particularly the illegitimate ones – all I can say is that he is one fertile dude!
Randall Roderick, the Marquess of Reading has seven – soon to be eight – children. In his younger years, he was a rake extraordinaire. He dropped his seed anywhere and everywhere. While we may dislike him for his indiscriminate fathering of children, he always took responsibility for them, he gave them his name, he saw to their care and upkeep, and he always played a role in their lives as much as he could. He met and fell in love with his marchioness about seven years ago and has given up his rakish ways. Now, in addition to his four illegitimate sons and one illegitimate daughter, he has two legitimate sons and one child on the way.
Randolph Roderick is the oldest of the illegitimate children. He is the spitting image of his father in looks and the exact opposite in the way he conducts his life. He manages one of his father’s breeding/training stables and he also works for the Foreign Office – and that job got him a knighthood. He’s now Sir Randolph Roderick. He is also a widower with a baby. Luckily, he and his father are fairly close and the baby, Charlie, is sharing the nursery with his uncle Robert, who is 2 years old. Everyone except Randolph seems to know he needs a wife and Charlie needs a mother. Little does he know that Juliet Comber, the wife of one of his friends, has decided to do some matchmaking between several of her friends.
Xenobia Dunsworth is the widow of a baron. It wasn’t a love match, but they had been good friends all of their lives. Sadly, that friendship didn’t really translate well into the marriage. Xenobia is just days out of mourning when she is visited by her very good friends – Lady Julia Comber and Lady Caroline Chamberlain. Julia realizes how very lonely and sad Xenobia is – and she decides to do something about it.
Rachel Roderick is the younger illegitimate sister of Randolph, but neither of them knows about the other. Rachel attended finishing school in Zurich with Julia and Xenobia, but she stayed on longer than they did. Now, she is back. Her mother and, unbeknownst to Rachel, her father plan for her to have a season. Rachel has no hopes of finding a good match among the ton even though her father has fully acknowledged her. You see, her mother is a famed courtesan who now owns the very popular and successful gaming hell and brothel called the Queen of Hearts. If the ton ever found out who her mother is, they’d shun her totally. Rachel believes she’ll just remain unmarried and become a spinster. But then fate intervenes, in the guise of Julia Comber.
Mark Merriweather is the younger son of an earl and his older brother has already married and sired an heir. Mark doesn’t have to worry about inheriting the earldom and he plans to lead a productive life. He has an inheritance and doesn’t have to worry about working at anything if he doesn’t want to do so, but he does. He has purchased a public house, The Three Bells, in Westminster and fully plans to run it himself. It never occurs to him that he is in need of a wife – he only knows he’s in need of a bookkeeper and a cook for the public house. Then, there is a visit with Julia Comber and the rest is history.
It was fun to see these two couples come together. Each of them perfectly complemented their partner and filled the voids they each had. In this story, we got two romances, lots of found money, families who loved each other, and a bit of intrigue with counterfeiters. I hope you’ll read this book and enjoy it as much as I did.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Will their birth circumstances impede their future ...
I have read Randolph and Xenobia’s story as a novella released last fall in the anthology Have A Merry Little Secret, so I was surprised to see this book with the same title but, with a more complex summary. In fact it is this novella, reworked and extended to a novel length with the writing style signature of the author, a double romance. So I dug happily in this renewed and lengthier version, happy to see again the first couple and even more to discover the second.
I love how the author keeps me on edge, changing of scenes and characters at each turn of a chapter, it is like watching a soap opera, when something is to be expected, POF, an other place and other protagonists.
Xenobia is a lovely but shy widow and quite lonely since the passing of her late husband, with his death she lost also her best friend even if they were already estranged due to the lack of passion in their marriage. Now fresh out of mourning, she longs for new friendships and companionship. Randolph, while illegitimate is the acknowledged son of a marquess, he never followed his profligate of a sire’s footsteps, only in his love for horses. Instead he married young and became thus a very young widowed father. He also serves the crown and while much occupied, he in some ways wants more than successful businesses. Their chemistry is immediate, striking them like a lightning bolt. Despite Everything moving fast, nothing feels rushed. They are the right answer to one another.
Rachel is Randolph half sister, the only daughter of her womanizer of a sire. Yet like her brother, she is acknowledged but bears two crosses, on top of being illegitimate, her mother is a courtesan turned madam. Why she believes marriage is not in her future. Mark is the spare of an earldom, so he never has the same demands put on him as his elder brother. Instead he was emancipated and since invested his inheritance in a burgeoning but successful enterprise. Mark is immediately drawn to Rachel, and nothing not even her birth circumstances will make him deviate of his path to convince her she is the one for him.
Like in all the books I have read so far by the author, the span of time between the first to the last chapter is very short. Her heroes are most of the time struck immediately and rarely doubt their feelings. We follow them as they realize then accept their change of heart to see how they will make it come to fruition. Here the author intertwines her characters immediate circumstances around the same background plot, each having its own say in the resolution of it, it was quite fun. 5 stars

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
The Knot of a Knight. Well for me this was a uniquely written story. I say this because the book was written with two couples finding romance at the same time. There is Randolph and Xenobia and the other couple is Mark and Rachel. Of course their love affairs were experienced separately from the other couple. I did like reading the story. The characters I found very enjoyable. Each had their quirky little ways, but they all had a caring heart and loved their family and friends dearly. I must admit in the beginning, I had to get my mind wrapped to who was who and was related to whom. By the time I was at least a chapter in, I was able to get the just. I enjoyed the light hearted drama that transpires in the love story. I enjoyed the sentiments in the story, where not only just the growing romance was looked at importantly, but getting to know family. Not only that, but the family appreciates that they have someone to turn to when they need them. This had me stepping back and loving the inspirational thoughts that comes to my mind while reading it. The romance between the couples was an added plus. Until next time my fellow readers... read on! Each couple was so sweet and wonderful. This book was a delight to read.
The Knot of a Knight is heart-warming and tender laced with wit and humour. Coming out of mourning after a miserable and lonely year for a man who had been her best friend, but made a miserable husband, Lady Xenobia Dunsworth is excited to wear bright colours and to join her friends in entertainment again. A mischievous friend sets Xenobia and Sir Randolph up with deliberate misinformation, but they ultimately sort through the layers of chicanery and discover that they have more in common than they would have anticipated. Sir Randolph is tasked by the Foreign Office to uncover a plot and when by chance he discovers that Xenobia may be part of it, he has to tread carefully. When the truth comes out, they both win and discover that they are of one mind. This well-written and delightful romance is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Now this is what I call entertaining! I originally read a version of this delightful story in the boxset, 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Secret' and enjoyed it very much but this version is so much better! It is back to two divine romances in one book, has been pulled together very neatly and is more engaging and entertaining than the original. Blessed with a caring father and step-mother, Sir Randolph Roderick immerses himself in his work rather than setting out to find himself a wife or a lover having lost his wife shortly after the birth of his son. Lady Xenobia Dunsworth is widowed and has become a bit of a recluse until someone decides to meddle in their lives. I loved these two characters who hide away from life in their own ways until they meet and then there is a spark between them which soon flares into full-blown and passionate love. Then we have the second story involving Rachel, daughter to an ex-courtesan and Mark, the son of an Earl, and this quickly becomes the other swoony love at first sight story. Rachel has returned from her overseas schooling as a knowledgable and intelligent lady who has resigned herself to a quiet life and Mark is having trouble with his business. Can she help? Both of these stories, which run side by side, are written with so much compassion for these four love filled souls that a bit of naughtiness can't help but rear its head every now and then. I think Linda Rae Sande has the ability to bring out the hopeless romantic in all of us and I for one am not complaining! I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) and my voluntary review above is based on my thoughts about this story.
I finished this book a few hours and I enjoyed reading it. As it was about a man named Randall who had several sons by different women but also acknowledged them as well. One was a Knight named Randolph and had a son named Charlie. He was a Widower and remarried a Widow name Xenobia. Finding and meeting his long, lost sister as well.
A steamy story read as part of ‘The Holidays of the Aristocracy’ box set. The second in this set. An entertaining story, but as with the first book I was initially bemused by all the characters, and, at least for me, it not being initially clear who was who. Often writers make this clear at the start. Given the Queen wishes to keep Rachel being her daughter a secret, it seems odd that the dining room is the one used by the club and its members. She would have attracted a lot of attention from them. And then it seems it was easy for people to observe them using the secret doors, ie Mark. That just did not seem right. The willingness of the ladies to immediately jump into bed with someone they have literally just met was also a little startling. I think they might have been a little more reserved initially. And the men ( or ladies) seemed to have no thoughts as to trying to prevent possible outcomes. I think Lady X might have had a worry on that score, if not before certainly after her night, and Rachel’s mother would have very well aware of consequences and be counselling her accordingly. Then we get to the leap year tradition. The tradition is that women may propose marriage, but on the leap day, ie 29th Feb. Obviously a woman could propose at any time but would be very unlikely to in that era, and again in that era would have been far more likely to adhere to tradition and propose on the 29th. However it is a pleasant if not demanding story so I have given 4 stars.
Although I first read Randolph and Xenobia's story as a novella in the boxed set of Have Yourself a Merry Little Secret, I still found the expanded version of The Knot of a Knight just as entertaining. This updated and longer Regency romance also features Rachel Roderick and Mark Merriweather's love story. Rachel is Sir Randolph Roderick's half sister, and Lady Xenobia Dunsworth's is a close friend of Rachel. The whole book is sweet and enjoyable, and Linda Rae Sande has deftly pulled all the parts and pieces together into an smile-worthy and satisfying read with a cute ending.
Content 411: This well-written book contains just a bit of mild swearing, some flirting and kisses, as well as a mildly described sexually intimate scene.
A shorter version of this story was one of the few highlights in the less than memorable anthology Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret. The story has been expanded and we are again treated to two pairs finding their happy ever after aided by a little matchmaking by Julia Comber. It's a case of "you just know s/he is the one" for both romances, which develop in parallel as the Marquess of Reading's eldest son, Randolph, and only daughter, Rachel, both find their fitting match - while finally meeting each other, no less! I found this to be a well-told and very entertaining story. I read an advance copy and voluntarily post this review.
What a wonderful story! From the first page to the last you will be spellbound by The Knot Of A Knight. Linda Rae Sande spins a heart-warming love story between two couples that unfolds beautifully which is full of strong emotions, matchmaking cousin and counterfeiters. The characters are well thought out and each one comes across clearly as their individual personalities become more than just part of the tale they become embedded in your heart, witty dialogue and with a strong plot. As the two couples find the path to love with one another in this romance that will keep you entralled from the beginning to the end in this outstanding story!
Have yourself a merry little secret-box set Wedding her Christmas duke-4 The knot of knight-4 The marquess is mine-3 A yuletide miracle-not into it, not finished The lady who stole Christmas-4 steamy Christmas with a czar-2 (childish, fake historical, rude people, lacking editing) A scot most wanted-2 Secretly marvelous -3 Yuletide secrets-4 steamy (would have been better with editing) Our scandalous Christmas-3 The rogue’s secret-2 (redundant, not well written, tedious, needs editing) The secret he keeps-3 (not into the story)
Xenobia and Randolf find themselves in a pickle of how they met. Pushed together by Cousin Julia in a ways of miscommunication and quite funny how they figure it out. At Christmas time in London, coming out of widow's weeds, back into society can be a bit difficult, especially with the background both of these two have come from, and yet they are of London's finest as well. Isn't it interesting how so much drama can lead to such fascinating exploits that can happen. Read this one and be prepared to laugh. Great job Linda Rae Sande, I'm a new fan for sure.
Lady Julia thinks to matchmake her cousin Xenobia, a young widow who has just finished her period of mourning by telling her husband’s friend that Xenobia has a timid filly in need of training! As you can guess when they meet, this is a source of misunderstanding and then when they understand the truth, embarrassment. However from this unpromising start, a friendship and more is born. Read this story in the Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret anthology.
I wasn't crazy about the way the story kept switching from one couple to another. Also hard to believe that 2 couples met and fell in love over the course of 2 days. That being said i love historical romance and will read just about anything from that time frame.

I listened on Audible and couldn’t stand the Narrator. I also didn’t enjoy the way the story jumped around between characters and locations constantly, with nothing actually happening. Not for me
Randolph and Xenobia story. Randolph eldest son of Randall the Marquess of Reading is illegitimate, widowed, a single father, he works with horses and has been knighted for services to the crown and is an all round decent chap. Wary of women after his wife turned against him, he's tricked into meeting Lady Xenobia by Julia Conner who tells him that Xenobia has a fully to be trained. Xenobia is widowed after a disappointing marriage and is not sure what to do with the rest of her life, and is annoyed when she learns Julia has invited a man to visit her.
But nothing goes quite as expected. But Julia also spoke to Mark Merriweather younger son of an earl, suggesting he visits Rachel - who happens to be Randophs unknown sister.
Lovely to meet so many characters again, its what's held this whole series together, and what makes it so readable.
This was part of Have Yourself a Merry Little Secret (Book 1) but Goodreads doesn't count the books individually so I manually entered them so they would could as books read.
