Those responsible for the taming of America encountered circumstances that would break the average person living today. There were some whom had to fight the elements and Indians, and others who had to fight so much worse. The settlers who challenged the land known as the northern Louisiana Territory had to fight the weather, the natives and monsters. Monsters that have been lost to antiquity, but all too alive and well during their conquest of the area. Known as forest devils, these beasts were responsible for more death and misery than any other challenge, in the region known as the Ozarks. They have been forgotten to history, but at one time required an armed military response from Washington. The army, along with the settlers, fought to bring them under control at great cost. Lest we never forget what is hidden in the darkest regions of our country. Nature has a way of getting even.
Jeffrey wrote an interesting tale of folklore and big monsters in the early colonial period before the Louisiana Purchase. This book is easy to read and follow with excellent action scenes and realistic, period accurate descriptions of people, equipment and mindsets. Throw into their struggles to survive, giant manlike creatures with an attitude and the strength to tear a man in half, now you have a story. An American military detachment is sent into then occupied Spanish territory to investigate the situation and destroy the monsters if there were any. Things went downhill fast when they discovered the townspeople had actually captured one of the fearsome beasts in a pit. They got to see what they were up against and soon got up close and personal. Luckily for the Army commander, he had a group of Rangers who were able to track the beasts to their lair. It doesn't end like you think it will. I won't ruin it for you.
As you can see, our government has been bought by the Rich since day one so nothing new under the sun as they say. I believe it will always be us choosing the lesser of two or three evils to be spokesperson. Course they think they own everything which they do, and we are nothing more than slaves to them, ignorant, illiterate morons that they can control, they have through our schools by not teaching respect, history, culture etc.
This novel was a interesting tale of yesteryear and the times of a young country struggling to be born. As with the previous books it was a well delivered story up until the ending. The ending seemed rushed and disconnected. The author should have spent a little more time completing the tale and cleaning up the story line. Other than that it was a good read.
great read.. it was interesting to see the way the Indians.. chief and medicine men manipulate the sasquatch.. too bad about the spaniards and the predjiudice going on.
A village is battling sasquatch. The American battalion is helping, the Spanish troops come by. With so many people helping with the stop the Indians and sasquatch?
