I'm in a battle of wits with the powerful Potestas organization. Potestas is determined to steal unimaginable powers for its members, and I hold the key to unlocking this ambition. In exchange, Potestas promises to reveal crucial information about the source of my magic and immortality. I’ve been desperate for those answers for centuries.
But knowledge comes with a price. Potestas plans a human sacrifice to bring about their new world order. If I’m slow to act, they will slaughter an innocent woman and thrust a destructive new reality upon an unsuspecting world. If I do save her, I will never know my truth.
Emma Shelford feels that life is only complete with healthy doses of magic, history, and science. Since these aren't often found in the same place, she created her own worlds where they happily coexist. If you catch her in person, she will eagerly discuss Lord of the Rings ad nauseam, why the ancient Sumerians are so cool, and the important role of phytoplankton in the ocean.
Emma is the author of the Nautilus Legends (a marine biologist discovers that mythical sea creatures are real), the Musings of Merlin Series (Merlin is immortal, forever young, and living in the modern day), and the Breenan Series (a young woman follows a mysterious stranger into an enchanting Otherworld).
I didn't review the first three books in this series, waiting I guess,to see if Merlin ever got a clue. For someone who has lived so long he seems a little slow on the uptake, not to mention he has the emotional range of a teenage girl.Think I'll take a break from the Series but I recommend you read the first book. Always fun to read a "Arthurian" tale
While I really enjoyed this book, and the preceding books, I have to mark it down for the obviousness of some of the plot points. They’ve been signposted from very early on and I refuse to believe that a being of Merlin/Merry’s age and experience wouldn’t see things that are so glaringly obvious. The stubborn refusal to believe in anything, from someone with supernatural powers, is just so far past ridiculous that it’s becoming difficult to continue believing in the universe, or thinking that he has any intelligence whatsoever.
I’ll keep reading the series because I have enjoyed a lot of the elements, plus, now the not-so-secret-but glaringly-obvious secret is out, I’m intrigued to see what happens next.
Intending to discover the Potestas’s goals, Merlin attends their meeting and discovers another of their heartless and selfish plans. This time, it’s the earth spirits that contact Merlin, and he has choices to make- both personally and romantically.
I love all the dream insights into Merlin’s history.
Fave scenes: the white mouse, healing the queen, dealing with the guards, and Guinevere meeting a friend.
Another great installment in the Musings of Merlin series! Good action, more revelations and background explored. As always, leaves one both satisfied and wanting more!
