Deep below the waters of a world covered in ice, the key to Dark Metal awaits.
Along with it, a new threat that brings the war ever closer.
In order to stop it, the Messenger and his team must confront a familiar enemy in a new place, but now the stakes are higher, and the battle's results will echo across the galaxy for ages to come.
To cap it all off, ships are being stolen from unSpace with no explanation as to why.
The Messenger has his work cut out for him, here in this dangerous new galaxy.
In the sixth entry of J.N. Chaney and Terry Maggert’s The Messenger series, the key to the critical material known as Dark Metal deep below the seas of a frozen world, along with a new threat that could critically affect the war between Newton “Dash” Sawyer’s Cygnus Realm and the “enemies of life” against humanity. The space station Forge is the center of his alliance, and they continue to seek Dark Metal to increase the station’s weapons output, with an alliance with the alien alliance known as the Aquarian Collective, spearheaded by Al’Bijea, very well augmenting the forces of the Cygnus Realm.
When the sixth story begins, Dash is battling a distortion cannon, visiting the frozen world Burrow with his mech, the Archetype, with his alliance dealing with saboteurs in the meantime. Several battles with the Verity occur throughout the novel, with a mysterious three-ringed construct eventually titled the Greenbelt encountered, and the cultivation of a plant-based Park within the Forge allows the station to sustain greater amounts of life. A secret about the leadership of one of the Cygnus Realms major components, the so-called Gentle Friends, becomes known as well, and more climactic battles end the book, with a few minor events afterward.
Ultimately, I found the sixth entry of The Messenger series to be largely on par with its predecessors, which is definitely a good thing as the various battles throughout the narrative contain excellent description and action, and there are hints at the end of the future possibly depicted in the following stories, to which I am consequentially looking forward. There are some occasional errors within the text, although these luckily don’t detract much from the literary experience. Furthermore, I have a few issues with imagining the appearances of the various luminaries that play part in the plotline, although I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this story to those who enjoyed its precursors.
This series had some promise at first, and I read thru to #6. But I just can't be bothered to continue. The characters are flat and decidedly one-note. It feels as if most of them are placeholders, with an "NPC" feel - as if they are just waiting for the "player character" to trigger some preset action.
The aliens are unimaginative, 1-dimensional, and the few attempts at moral relativism don't really work. The tech is interesting in a few places, but also fails to actually be imaginative. The plot falls into a lot of repetition, and inconsequential filler side quests. The various factions that are incorporated into "The Domain" are not particularly detailed, and don't seem to have any motivation of their own. And the worst part for me is that it depends on paragraph after paragraph of expository narration.
Best I can say is that they're easy, non-challenging reads, and giant space mecha are cool.
Dash and his crew are on a roll. They can now start to see the other side of the street. They have taken heavy losses, good friends, fighting for their freedom from the Golden and the species that fight in the Golden's behalf. There goal total submission or annihilation of all humans and anyone who fights with them. The followers of Dash, the Messenger? Freedom. Another excellent read in this series!! Enjoyed!!!
Yup! I really enjoy this series. Yes, it is good versus bad, but well scripted and thought out. Strong characters and their struggles to defend humanity, Be it humans gone sour or aliens determined to wipe out humanity. Of course out heroes are the underdog both in strength and equipment/technology. But our heroes are driven and adaptable!
So, The Messenger, Dash and his team are going to take the war to The Golden. But first they have to defeat The Verity. Lots of action and the rescuing of more humans held by the Verity. Hopefully some of those rescued will join the Cygnus forces and help the fight against The Golden.
Another excellent installment in the series. There is always something that's needed in war, but warm bodies willing to fight. Is a precious commodity. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure.I look forward to more from this series 😁
Book 6 surges forward with the same sense of purpose and intensity of the previous books. The reader is introduced to new technologies, and new allies. I like that the answer is not always easy or linear, and that characters continue to be developed. This book ends positively, looking to the future and with a promise for the reader.
Have a read. You may find you will enjoy though I say start at the beginning you will be glad you did. As for those that already have then if you enjoy dash and his crew then you won't be disappointed I am hoping the covid stuff has not delayed the launch of the next books. Read and enjoy
I'm not on the payroll of the authors, but this book has a sublime mix of the storyline (with added twists and turns), humour (essential) and character development required to keep the reader involved.
Book 6 done in a day, now onto book 7. This one might take a few days as back to real life...
It’s quite the achievement that the authors have managed in ensuring each new book carries the story but is still interesting enough to stand alone... if you’ve read the rest this one will not disappoint.
Well you have done it again lol another great storyline with plenty of action and banter.. Good job they know how to fight or they would be very short stories lol... 😁😁😁
The characters haven't changed for the last few books, they just say and do the same types of things over and over again. The plotline and world building aren't interesting enough to continue. Very boring, I'm done with the series.
The war rages on continuing in the battles against the golden and their allies Dash (the Messenger) and his other person's of the Cygnus realm, rescue prisoners, salvage ships etc from epic battles and continue to build their Force against the Golden.
JN Chaney and Terry Maggert write amazing books. Can't tell you enough about these. Highly recommend them. Each one of the messenger series so far has been outstanding and a page turner.
The more I am reading this series the more I like it. It so funny the way the gentile friends have changer their whole outlook on life. Looking forward to the next book.
