J. R. Tomlin is the author of nineteen historical novels.

She has close ties with Scotland since her father was a native Scot, and she spent substantial time in Edinburgh whilst growing up. Her historical novels are set for the most part in Scotland. Her love of that nation is traced from the stories of the Bruce and Sir James her grandmother read to her when she was small, to hillwalking through the Cairngorms where the granite hills have a gorgeous red glow under the setting sun. Later, her writing was influenced by the work of authors such as Alexander Dumas and Victor Hugo.

When JR isn't writing, she enjoys hiking, playing with her Westie, and killing monsters in computer games. In addition to spending time in Scotland, she has traveled in the US, Europe and the Pacific Rim. She now lives in Oregon.

The typos and grammatical errors are gone and the excitement is gripping, page after page. The author takes the fighting out of Scotland, down into England, and then over to Ireland as Robert the Bruce's younger brother (Thomas's uncle again) Edward, eager for his own fiefdom, sets out to make himself High King of Ireland. Thomas, as always, is central to the Scots' military strategy planning and a fearsome warrior on the battlefield. Best in the series so far!

Great history!

I’m a huge fan of historical fiction because it really opens my fancy to that portion of history. Of course I watched Braveheart but it’s wonderful to see how much of Scots history was yet to be made after Wallace’s death.

Graphic, but excellent descriptions...

Scottish History and England’s part of it is a hard read. I believe history does repeat itself and if we do not learn from our past mistakes, we are likely to repeat them. Knowing history helps us move forward. This book is great!
