Mizukawa is graduating and Serina is not. With the two finally separated, what will happen to their relationship? Will the cracks finally appear? Will they put in the effort? Will I make a surprising proclamation in the next paragraph?
Okay, I was pretty sure before, but now that this series has ended, I definitely am: this is hands down the best high school romance manga I have ever read. This story was about love and it was very rarely about anything but.
These two were always so good together that it was a no-brainer to cheer them on every step of the way. The series lost the plot a couple times by pretending that they were anything but crazy for one another and just pulled out all the stops for this finale.
The graduation is a massive set of stories and romantic gestures both big and small. We see one of the finest denouements to a rival storyline I have ever seen and a lot of people just being friends and palling around that many other books don’t bother with.
It’s terribly sweet. Then it keeps going. We see our leads balancing university and relationships and even as their circumstances change, the utter delight they find in one another is never in question. There’s never been a relationship so believable to me in a manga like this before.
It’s sweet, charming, playful, joyous, sometimes rough, but never less than engaging. The last section is the perfect ending for these two, showing how far they’ve come and how far they can go. There wasn’t half as much artifice as similar stories would conjure up to keep the plot going - the story was allowed to be what it was and what it was was a delight.
The writing is so good and filled with lots of heartwarming sentiment that, yes, might be laid on a little thick, but dammit, this book sells me on every line it puts out there and made me feel stronger about my own relationship. That’s a good love story.
5 stars - from some simple words carved into a desk came one of the all-time greats for me. If you want a series that focuses way more on the joys of a relationship than it does throwing artificial bumps in the road (though it does toss a couple out, admittedly), this one is for you and it delivered the perfect send-off for a perfect couple.
I've had my fair share of experiences with romance novels/manga/manhwa but I would have to say this one is quite unlike the others I've come across.
To begin with, it's not a slow burn or one where the couple take way too long to get together. In fact, our main couple gets together by the end of first chapter. I had my misgivings when I started reading the manga, since things seemed to be moving way too fast.
But as I kept reading, I realised that this manga wasn't about the hardships that come before you start dating but about the ones that come after. It was quite a refreshing take, at least for me, in the romance genre because more often than not, the romance books I have read have been about the pain of an unrequited love and when the couple do get together, it's all a bed of roses. This manga wasn't like that.
It also wasn't one of those where the problems between the couple arose due to their inability to communicate. I was constantly and pleasantly surprised by how mature both of them were when it came to talking about their thoughts and feelings. Of course, they had their moments of jealousy and their arguments but instead of sitting around and brooding, waiting for the other to act/apologise, they did what they were supposed to and took in charge of their relationship, which honestly made it so easy to read.
Another thing that the manga did well and that I briefly talked about before was the 'first time' arc. The mangaka took immense care in showcasing the feelings and anxieties of both Asuma and Serina. And even though there were no explicit scenes, reading that particular volume got my heart racing.
It was my favourite volume in the manga, along with the one where they go through a brief seperation, something I could very much relate to. I've never really had a high school relationship but I have been in a long distance one and it's really painful to both of the people involved. The volume captured that pain and the anxiety that comes along with it quite beautifully.
The final thing that I'd like to talk about is the second love interests. This is one of the few books where I actually didn't abhor the second love interests because for the most part, they didn't act like assholes. In fact, Higuchi was probably one of my favourite characters. And though, I didn't like Nagisa as much (mainly cause some of her advice was just...not advice at all) I still didn't hate her. I like how the mangaka has made the effort to not make the exs and other love interests into complete villains or one dimensional but rather they're perfectly rounded and perfectly human in their actions.
Overall, I would say this is one of my favourite shoujo mangas (though I've only read a few others so idk how much that should count for) and I would really love to visit it again someday.
I rather liked this series. The loose art style wasn't one I usually enjoy, but Azusa Mase has a wonderful command of the human form that makes the sketchy, thin lines feel warm and lively.
The main reason I enjoyed this series was that I couldn't relate to the characters at all. They were so unlike me. Their love was patient and solitary. It grew while they spent time apart, prioritizing responsibilities first. I wasn't like that at all in high school, so I found their romance fascinating to follow.
I usually find a series and binge on it, but now that so much manga is being serialized in America, I had the opportunity to follow this series through ten volumes. I had the sense of time and distance to help me fully appreciate the journey these characters took over ten volumes. It was an enjoyable experience.
It is one of the best shoujo mangas I have ever read, because of its incredibe realism. It perfectly conveys the thrill of being young, with which a very young reader can empathise and for which a slightly older one can feel an incredible nostalgia. However, it also does not neglect to deal with the anxieties of first relationships, such as the fear of novelty and of losing something precious to a mistake. Serina and Mizukawa-senpai's choices, although not always agreeable or perfectly logical, make it all the more realistic, because, ultimately, teenagers need to experiment and it's ok for them to do so. No other manga I have read has ever done such justice to the power of teenage love, for which one is prepared to risk everything. It does not tell the story of a love that blossoms, but of the commitment of two teenagers and then young adults to nurture it over time, even when the elements seem to conspire against it.
I am truly satisfied with this ending, especially how Mase-sensei handled the second-male lead's conclusion. Usual-shoujo usually just puts the second-male's conclusion abruptly; he loves the female lead ➡️ confessed ➡️ getting rejected ➡️ the end. But this manga really takes its time to properly explain to readers how Higuchi took his first steps to move on from Serina, and how everyone involved in this romantic scenario doesn't have any hard feelings for each other, like... they all understand it was not Higuchi's fault or that he meant any harm or that he purposely meddle in Serina and Asuma's relationship, he just simply fall in love... and he couldn't help it. He can't choose who he falls in love with.
Really, I LOVE all three of main characters' characterization so much ((—yeah, especially Asuma [wishper])).
Asuma and his words are going to be the end of me. HE MAKES ME SWOON SO HARD AND I CAN'T HELP IT—
Okay back to our serious conversation. Again, I love how this manga have a mature discussion about how to handle a low contact/long distance relationship. The communication between Serina and Asuma are really great. I just really love how much mature conversation there is about their relationship, how they realize that it takes work to stay together, and how they actually think seriously about their education ((this is literally the only shoujo manga i've ever across, where the characters was actually planing to take on student-exchange, internship, and post-grad program, so hats off for that— )).
This shoujo feels a lot more emotionally mature than any other I've read. How everyone involved is eventually thinking seriously about possible consequences. They're having a serious talk about their feelings and their future.
This shoujo also has a unique approach in their plot ((—like, not your usual shoujo)). Sure, it often gets really corny, and it tickles my spines ((—in a good way!)), but I rarely ((or, dare i say, almost never—)) find any overused clichés throughout the story. All of their storylines and interactions feel new, and fresh, and entertaining.
This shoujo is on my top tier list for sure. Please give it a read! ♡
at first i was iffy because i was like “aren’t we moving too fast?” or “why is he being so nonchalant?” but in the end, i turned out to really enjoy the series!
i loved the communication between serina and asuma too. i think them taking a break was such a good addition to the story, it made it all feel a little more real i guess? (not that i’d know… 😒) i just appreciated the fact that the story wasn’t just all a happy love story because of that addition.
i especially loved the side characters! there wasn’t a single person i disliked in this series surprisingly. there were moments where some characters threw me off with something they would say or do but they would make up for it eventually. inoue lowkey the goat though..! i also loved yui and moe a lot! i do wish we got to see serina and asuma’s brother work it all out in the end though.
my favorite chapter would probably be the first graduation one just because i literally teared up (im sry i can’t help it) when the third years all wrote messages on the blackboard for serina.
overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read and im glad i gave it a chance instead of dropping it just because of how fast it all started.
This was my absolute FAVORITE manga! From start to finish it was so engaging and well written and just beautiful. I’m so sad it’s over. I literally joined Instagram so I could follow the author although I’m not sure if that was the official Azusa Mase page. Nevertheless, sigh… I could’ve continued reading this for 4 Years and 4 months more!!! This was the first series I actually bought instead of just reading it for free. I wanted to support the author because Azusa created such a beautiful story. I’m a total fan and wish I could meet Azusa Maze. Thank you for creating the best manga ever!
Very fast paced. I kept wondering how could there possibly be so many volumes when everything happens in the first three volumes.
This series is okay. There's literally nothing that makes it stand out from other romance manga. (Good or bad) I like the main character but I was bored of the guy. He's kind of dull. He doesn't really show emotion. The romance is boring. I started wishing they'd break up for no reason. I almost thought they would at some point but I guess dreams don't come true.
I'm giving this two stars because it's not terrible. I liked some of the advice that was given. Read this if your bored.
this really grew on me as it went and their relationship blossomed. i don't think it does anything necessarily new with its premise but i liked its approach in not just how these two continued to grow in their relationship, separately and apart. i liked that it touched on sex in a fairly realistic way and also the possibility of them growing apart from each other as they moved onto college and their adult lives. it still feels fairly wish fulfillment-y in that everything for the most part turns out for the best but hey, i ain't mad about it. also unrelated but i loved all of serena's outfits. a+, would wear.
Review for the whole series. It was somewhere between a 3.5 and 4☆ read overall.
The storyline is nothing new. A kouhai falling in love with her senpai and then they navigating through their high school years. Both the main characters were too cute. There was no unnecessary drama which a lot of mangas with school romances have. It was cute and real. And the communication in this manga was too good. If you are looking for a nice fluff read which is not too long then you should definitely go for this.
(no salió aquí)
It was ok, but TBH it’s been too long since I read the series, so the chapters seemed very disconnected. Like her taking photos with the other guy that liked her, and then she’s making out with Mizukawa, etc. Their relationship was obviously very strong, but I didn’t really *feel* that through the manga. I was confused about her bringing the box of moments to his house - was she breaking up with him? Why? What was up with her wanting to go overseas? It just seemed a bit weird.

This last volume felt rushed but at the same time, I was glad it was over lol. I did enjoy this series but I did feel secondhand embarrassment a lot. This couple was almost too mushy for me lol. I did like that they were very physically affectionate with each other though.
Overall, I give this series a solid 4/5 stars. It’s def worth the read! If you want a series where the romance is the main focus, here ya go!
I love how they know how to communicate, but I think their romance are pretty boring. I felt really disappointed on the scene where she got into the hot tub with 2nd ML & the part where he confessed but she didnt tell ML about it. That part really make me think that she's a dumb person. I know she handled it well but I think its better to tell your partner about this kind of things.
Ich mochte die ruhige und realistische Art der Beziehung der beiden sehr gerne und es war eine willkommene Abwechslung einen Romance-Manga ohne viel künstliches Drama zu lesen:)
This manga series had a very sweet and wholesome ending. I love that despite Mizukawa and Serina going in different paths in terms of school, they still managed to stay strong as a couple no matter what was thrown at them.
This was a cute manga series. I was a bit disappointed they didn't show what happened with Maezono and Yui. It didn't seem like he was into her, but then he gave her his phone number. But it never showed if things worked out.
Such a good series! While these two might not have much in common, they were so stinking cute together! I wish we had a little preview of like 10 years later, but I’m so happy with how their story ended! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I like this series a lot, and not just because it's cute. I think the relationship is realistic and nuanced, and knowing that they're just teens really makes their dumb decisions add up.
i’m a shoujo girlie at heart! this series surprised me but as i read more i realized how much i enjoyed the main characters and seeing them grow… loved their lil friend group too
