** A Christmas Short Story ** Carmen's emotional wall has held firm, thus far. Certainly a force to be reckoned with. It's Christmas in a heartbeat, and just when the downs spell 'out', for Carmen and Tray, just ... 'maybe' ... this is a refreshing slide into something new.** Dear Reader, this is an adult love story, utilizing graphic language at times with adult sexual content and themes. L.S. Bergman is a British-Caribbean writer of woman-centered adult Afro-Caribbean romantic fiction. Her writing has dipped into multicultural historical fiction, with her release 'Becoming Bessy', but remains focused upon the diversity of the black diasporic experience.
“I took that ‘love at first sight’ ting to be some BS, you know what I’m sayin’? But then I met you, Carmen Drey. A woman who rocked my word completely. I fell in love with you then and I’ve been fallin’ deeper ever since.”
This little gem is for you if you believe in love at first sight. If you don’t, read it, and you will. Before U Go teaches us that love is not black and white or an on-off switch, but as with most things (even more so), it comes in different sizes and shapes, a plethora of hues, a myriad of intoxicating scents, and an endless array of sights and sounds. Add to that, over the course of time, love evolves into things not even the most emotionally gifted of us can imagine. L.S. Bergman delivers this message via her deeply complex characters, Carmen Drey and Tray Simmons … and I must throw sweet Mel in for good measure. Before U Go is a literary Pretty Woman of sorts that digs deeper in a shorter amount of time.
Written from Tray’s (Noir-like) and Carmen’s perspectives, Berman gets right at the hearts of two people at new lows during the Christmas season and gifts them the gift of love in a gigantic way. Highly recommended during any season.
I did not want this lovely story to end. Tray Simmons needed an assistant and a fake girlfriend to get his family off his back. His new business venture needed beautiful female dancers. Carmen came to dance for Tray and left with a new outlook on life. Carmen's daughter was ill, and most of the time was spent alone. I wanted to know more about her. Mel was an adorable child with a debilitating condition. Over time, Carmen and Tray became more than the business arrangement, and Mel would be an integral part of their family dynamics. I need a little more from this family; I wasn't ready for the story to end.
