Bailey Spade #3

Dream Chaser

The god of nightmares is real? How fun.

A mystery dreamwalker is trying to turn me homicidally insane? Business as usual.

But when a legendary seer gets involved, we end up on a world populated by necromancers. Oops. I’ll have to put on my big dreamwalker panties and learn to forgive Valerian’s betrayal before we’re all killed by Icelus… or zombies… or a deadly virus.

Dima Zales is a full-time science fiction and fantasy author residing in Palm Coast, Florida. Prior to becoming a writer, he worked in the software development industry in New York as both a programmer and an executive. From high-frequency trading software for big banks to mobile apps for popular magazines, Dima has done it all. In 2013, he left the software industry in order to concentrate on his writing career.

Dima holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from NYU and a dual undergraduate degree in Computer Science / Psychology from Brooklyn College. He also has a number of hobbies and interests, the most unusual of which might be professional-level mentalism. He simulates mind-reading on stage and close-up, and has done shows for corporations, wealthy individuals, and friends.

He is also into healthy eating and fitness, so he should live long enough to finish all the book projects he starts. In fact, he very much hopes to catch the technological advancements that might let him live forever (biologically or otherwise). Aside from that, he also enjoys learning about current and future technologies that might enhance our lives, including artificial intelligence, biofeedback, brain-to-computer interfaces, and brain-enhancing implants.

In addition to his own works, Dima has collaborated on a number of romance novels with his wife, Anna Zaires. The Krinar Chronicles, an erotic science fiction series, has been a bestseller in its categories and has been recognized by the likes of Marie Claire and Woman’s Day. If you like erotic romance with a unique plot, please feel free to check it out, especially since the first book in the series (Close Liaisons) is available for free everywhere. Keep in mind, though, Dima Zales's books are going to be much more PG 13 . . . at least that’s the plan for now.

Anna Zaires is the love of his life and a huge inspiration in every aspect of his writing. She definitely adds her magic touch to anything Dima creates, and the books would not be the same without her. Bailey and Valerian continue to try to get the help that Bailey's mom desperately needs. I love how Bailey and Valerian's relationship grows and develops in this book. And Felix is still one of my favorite characters.

I usually lose motivation writing reviews of the rest of the books in a series - one hopes and often finds that the first one breaks or makes the series and, if anything, in the rest of the books, there is very simple review to be made: is it as good as the first one? So a review for those books could actually be made of that one sentence and I would feel it justified and okay.

But I can do the thing I do - My Thing, I guess, where I just compose the review of one issue I noticed and just write about that cause if you read the first Bailey and didn't like it, you're probably never gonna see this and if you liked it you might also never bother to read it.

My issue for this book is: authority. Or maybe it should be plot devices. Or character motivation? Hmmm...

To put it in terms you actually will understand, these authors have this funny, kind of annoying habit of making up these group of annoying people you usually despise and these people are people in power and make important decisions that shapes in a large amount the destiny of the MC. Sasha, (is it spoiler if it's for the second series - it's not really a spoiler, I am going to be vague) so my fav babe Sasha was in that first book put in front of council which is the ruling body of these paranormal, you know and well, we all have some opinions about government and such but these authors obviously like them homicidal, selfish and staggeringly arrogant. Basically, the role of the council in Sasha and the role of similar ruling bodies as can be seen in Bailey as well is they are pretty much a band of powerful children who have million agendas and plots and likes and dislikes and if someone hates politics, this is what that politics would look like in their head - an absolute nightmare to see, much less deal with. It's not unlike that Red Heart Queen or what's her name, with that "beahead them!" phrase - that is what the councils here seems to do, react poorly to everything happening. And I am making this point now because the council on Earth dared to be nice and give them money and resources and like, gosh, we're in serious trouble people, let us give you some help so you can risk your lives and save us! So now the Earth council is actually "good" so of course, that could not have gone unpunished and here, guess what, we get another council, just as bad, maybe even worse than the first one. So yes, that is why I think these authors like them and use them and no... I don't really like it. And if I was really uncharitable or truthful, I'd say they apply the same to the love interests. Yup, heard that right, the boyfriends (future ones) both do the same in the books and manipulate the situation in the same way so that's second someone they can use to be like "but he wanted it so that's why this and this happened".

Which may point to the second, more technical side. I try to pretend/believe I am a writer and these particular issues point out to be actually some poor writing choices, you know. They use the council as a means to steer the plot in very crude way because I would hope they could do it better than by putting someone in power and because they are hated and in power they can make decisions that do not make as much sense and in turn lets the authors "get away" with not really having to find reasons for some stuff to happen because the council can just force the MC's hand. They also provide some antagonism, especially in those two first books. Council wants way too many things and the girls are a possible problem and since their first instinct is, as I mentioned, killing the problem, that makes the council a problem to overcome.

I hope that actually made sense and you realize I am not hating on council cause I have very specific and reasonable and justified reasons instead of something as basic as "dislike".

Also, I do like Bailey but I liked Sasha better and these books have only some of what I liked the most about Sasha so I recommend Sasha more but I do still recommend Bailey as well. Hope that won't change. We only have one more book.

Things are heating up in book 3. There is much to say as Bailey continues to try to save her mum, it will be difficult to review without giving any spoilers away as there are important reveals in this book. Here I go.

Bailey and her crew are leading a cross world defence against Icelus, the God of nightmares. We are introduced to some new characters and a new world Necronia, populated by necromancers, as you would expect on a world where its population reanimates the dead there are a few squeamish moments.
The group are trying to save the worlds from a deadly spreading virus, drawing similarities to the current pandemic. All of this while Bailey has uncovered some devastating news about Valerian leaving her feeling utterly betrayed.

We have some fantastic fight scenes both in the real and dread world in this book along with some events which are described bit too well and in great detail ...... Involving the reanimated dead and some zombies!I

There are constant attacks by the overtaken ..... Can they be cured?
Will Bailey move the romance along with valerian?
Where is Soma and missing her family members?
Will her mum rise from her coma?
What about the prophecy ?
Will we see more of the helpful necormancer and could there be romance in her future?
All things I would like to find out ..... If only Nostradamus were here to give us a few pointers!

EXCEPTIONAL Fantasy Series, full of action, mystery and romance... 5+ Stars!!!
This is the third book of the new series Bailey Spade (Dream Chaser) by Dima Zales and Anna Zaires . It just keeps getting better and better! The story continues, where Bailey, Valerian and a group of Cognizant, embark yet again in a dangerous mission to uncover the people from a group called Icelus, involved in spreading a deadly virus in order to gain power. From start to finish, this book is an emotional roller coaster, filled with some many twists and turns, surprises, discoveries and gut-wrenching scenes, that you won't be able to put it down, YOU JUST WON'T! We also get to see Valerian trying his best to make Bailey forgive him for his screw-up. This is a spin-off of the Urban Fantasy Series "Sasha Urban", and even though it can be read as a standalone, I do recommend you read the Sasha Urban Series, as it can enrich your reading experience of this new series. It does end on a Cliffhanger since there are 4 books, but the authors are releasing each book every two weeks, so the waiting time is almost non-existent. A MUST READ!

A flurry of action

Book 3 in the Bailey Spade series starts with a flurry of action that doesn’t abate throughout. After having gotten some cryptic advise from a famous seer (on what not to do), Bailey and her friends find themselves traveling to Necronia in an attempt to stop Phobetor, the "god" of nightmares and his minions from destroying not only Earth, but all the other worlds where the Cognizant live.
What Bailey most of all lacks is information: about her past, about how her power works and about who has been attacking her in her dreams when she is dreamwalking. As she slowly comes to forgive Valerian, she also learns more about her past and why Valerian seemed strangely familiar when they first met…

As previous installments this one draws heavily on game design and that feeling that as soon as you have defeated an enemy, solved a mystery, completed a quest there is yet another task - more difficult than the ones before – that needs to be completed. That and all the cool pop culture references make for an exciting and diverting read. Can’t wait to read the conclusion to the Bailey Spade saga!

I didn't think I'd love another series as much as the Sasha Urban series but this one is equally brilliant.
Bailey still hasn't woken her mother from her coma and she broke her mother's rule and dreamwalked in her mothers dreams. But what she sees leaves her shaken.
Meanwhile Icelus is working with a team of terrorists to release a virus. Bailey and her friends must risk their lives to try and stop them but that means travelling through the gates to another world that's not particularly friendly. But hey not many worlds are as nice as Earth and Gommorah. Prepare for a roller-coaster read as we follow Bailey and friends as they risk everything to save lives but it could prove fatal.
I absolutely love this series. Its a spin off from the Sasha Urban books and if you haven't read them where have you been living... Under a rock? You need these books in your life. Brilliantly written and full of suspense.

This is the third book in the Bailey Spade Series, an Urban Fantasy, and a spin-off of the Sasha Urban Series. You have to listen to this Series in order. Bailey's journey continues where the last book ended. Bailey is a Dreamwalker, and an amazing character, strong and smart. Valerian is handsome, powerful, and protective. I like their slow burn story, and how their relationship evolves. The cast of supporting characters is great. I like Bailey's friends. The storyline is fast-paced, action packed, entertaining, and filled with unpredictable twists and turns. The world building is original, complex, and intriguing. The story ends with a big cliffhanger and I can't wait to listen to Dream Ender, the next installment in the series. If you like Urban Fantasy, this series is for you!

Imagine a female, fantasy version of MONK... that's Bailey. Wipe carrying, germ avoiding, almost-detective. Tony Shalhoub would be proud😊.

Book 3 of the Bailey Spade series checks ALL the cozy-mystery-read boxes. You get a complex action packed story without the heart-wrenching devastation. It's a fun, world traveling, quirky, story with a small dash of romance.

If urban fantasy is your usual genre then you'll pretty much expect who the bad guys will be. You also wont be surprised by what is meant to be a shocking plot twist. However,  expecting the results doesnt stop the story from being entertaining. And there is one small detail that caught me off guard. Good Job, Mr. Dima! Keep me on my toes.

Beautiful cover.

Narration by Emily Durante is perfect.

Page turner

This was an absolute page turner. I could hardly stop reading. Bailey learned a whole freaking lot about her past and a bit about her enemy. I don’t think she told Valerian about the ‘person behind the mask’ but I’m curious about his reaction. Loved how everyone reacted and I’m excited to see what happens with the group of characters we know and love.

It was also nice to learn what princess peach and bowser are up to. Though I hope she at least tried her luck to help them behind the scenes. I also don’t know how she’ll react to the new necromancer with her nature and all that. Or bowser for that matter. I hope they pop up in the next book maybe. That’d be cool.

In Dream Chaser Bailey Spade realises that the god of nightmares is real, and set on destroying her! Her quest to save her mom has taken an unexpected turn, and now she and her loyal friends are in danger of being killed by a dangerous dream walker, crazy cultists, zombies or a deadly virus. Can she forgive Valerian's betrayal and come to terms with the fact that her mom kept secrets from her, and those secrets can have a huge impact on her future? Bailey has become stronger and more resourceful, and she understands that if she wants to survive she must lower her defenses and overcome her fear of intimacy and being emotionally vulnerable. A gripping and fun adventure!

Bailey and her companions went on another action-packed adventure across parallel universes in book three of this well-written and fast-paced series. They encountered some dangers that hit a little too close for home right now but that had a side effect of the stakes being all the more impactful during the reading experience. A new character was introduced that I enjoyed immensely, and a few more things I've been waiting for were revealed as well. With them came the excitement to see how things all wrap up in the final book, making me all the more grateful this series has been a rapid release.

Bailey Spade #3, spin off from Sasha Urban. Icelus has created a deadly virus and is going to release it on Necronia. Bailey, Valerian and a horde of Cognizant make their way there. The trip is filled with battles against Overtaken, and the reception they receive is anything but cordial.

Like the first two books, fast and fun, filled with action. Bailey is mad at Valerian, will she stay mad at him? A few new characters are introduced. We have our old faithfuls, and a few return from the Sasha series. Some more reveals. A nice conclusion to make it feel like a full story. Five stars. The god of nightmares is still lurking, and maybe some more secrets, so on to Dream Ender.

And Bailey and friends continue their quest to help Bailey discover how to help her mom out of her coma. Being a dream walker is dangerous business, more dangerous than Bailey ever realized. Also of note is her growing attraction to Valerin. Looking forward to next book of series. I really enjoy all the different supernatural creatures in this book even though I really do not like zombie stories. Hopefully the quest ends happily.

This was a great continuation to Bailey's story. The pacing was fast, like the rest of the books, so there was always something going on. There are some new characters introduced, at least one of which I hope stays around for a while. There is a quick cameo from someone in the previous series. The Dream Walker that goes into Bailey's dreams was predictable, but I didn't mind because the rest of the story was interesting. The twist at the end was surprising. I definitely can't wait for the next book. I am voluntarily reviewing this book, gifted to me by the author with no obligation.

Dream Chaser is unpredictable, unputdownable, heart-stopping, captivating, romantic, and emotional. This fabulous series will absolutely blow your mind.

I hate spoilers, especially when a story is worth reading, so I won't go into detail, just know that this phenomenal series is getting better and better, and in this third installment Bailey's journey is filled with action, mystery, suspense, revelations, and flabbergasting twists and turns that will keep you on edge and turning the pages until the very end.

I can't wait for the conclusion!!

Loved getting transported to Bailey’s world yet again. As well as discovering the reality of myths and continuing her search for her mother, Bailey came across some old friends and met some new ones. I am definitely enjoying her adventures and the interaction between herself and Valerian. Can’t wait for the next in the series!

I think this is the best book in this series so far. I love the fast- paced action with so many twists you don’t see coming. Bailey’s germ phobia continues to crack me up throughout the book. I can’t say enough about this series and of the authors. They never disappoint.
