WITH THE CROCKETTS' IN TOWN, EVERY TWO-BIT GUNSLINGER’S CHANCES OF SURVIVING ARE JUST ABOUT ZERO…
After brothers Will and Gid Crockett deliver several horses to Colonel John Abernathy – a man they knew during the civil war – he hires them to accompany his sixteen-year-old daughter, Julia, on a stagecoach trip for fear she may be kidnapped and held for ransom.
Julia is very highly sought after, and Silas King and his outlaw gang refuse to back down.
The Crockett brothers find themselves in the outlaw town of Jericho with nothing but a shootout standing in the way of justice.
“The Crockett brothers carry a mean punch and wild adventures.”

Robert Vaughan – The Crockett’s Bk 3 – Escape from the Devil – Reviewed 3/23/21 – Read 3/21/21
Silas King has become a “Devil of a Thorn” in the side of the Crockett boys!
Silas King and his men were sitting on their horses overlooking the road. The men were telling Silas that they had spotted two men riding herd over a nice string of horses heading towards them. Indicating that they looked like they were nothin’, they would probably run away scared if’n they said boo! Silas told the men to take care of the riders, they didn’t need anyone around to tell tales, then bring the horses to him. Not understanding, as there was nowhere to ambush from, how the heck was they supposed to do that? Silas told them to stand in the road like they were just interested in looking, then when the men passed to shoot them in the back. Problem solved. Criminals they were, but while not very bright, they did follow orders.
Meanwhile, the Crockett boys are planning to deliver the horses to a friend of theirs, “Colonel” Abernathy. Both had served with him during the war and still referred to him as “Colonel”. They planned to arrive at the ranch about mid-afternoon. Talking while they were riding, they found three men just standing in the road. Of course, Will and Gid had been around the fence post a few times! When the hair on the back of their necks raised after they passed, they looked back drawing their weapons and shot. All three went down holding guns in their hands, but when they dismounted and went back to check them, one was still alive. He told Will and Gid, that Silas King had told them that this would be “easy Pickin’s”!!! What went wrong? And then he died!
Now the story begins…
What did I like? With this book, I have now caught up with the Crockett series. Those boys are a favorite in my house, good looking, fun natured, and full of heart. They never let an injustice get past them, help out those that need help, or let anything happen to women or children. I love the way that Robert spins his tales, they feel so natural. Taking a little history, spinning it around two lovable hunks, and spitting it out for his readers. Well, there is certainly a lot more to it than that, but it was a fun way to say it.
What will you like? Action, shootouts, horse thieves, murder, bank robberies, kidnapping, train holdups, and lots of eating! Wil and Gid are ready for action, always there to help a friend out. Their relationship is amazing, most brothers love each other, but would draw a line on living day and night with them. That is what makes them so special. Each would give their life to save the other. Additionally, you can tell that Robert has researched each and everything that is in his storyline, from the places to the events. I do hope there will be more from Will and Gid in the future and can’t wait to see it.
Don't mess around with Gid and Will unless you're joking, or it could bring the grim reaper for you! Outstanding job of unending excitement, as Mr. Vaughan goes above and beyond in his descriptive renditions of how I perceived our old American West was finally tamed!
Most definitely another outstanding five star masterpiece by the master himself! I have been fortunate enough to having read a multitude of Mr. Vaughan's outstanding western adventures, but this fast moving extravaganza is very well one of his very best transcripts this far! The outstanding descriptive storylines are unsurpassed in their commanding descriptiveness, and his successful selection of characters were unsurpassed in their commanding assignments throughout the entire fast moving extravaganza of realistic old American western folklore adventures! There are some very intense suspenseful episodes that consistently enhances your undivided attention, as Will and God pull no punches in their assigned effort to bring justice to those responsible for their wrong doings! Definitely recommend this compassionately outstanding, and most certainly entertaining, revelations of how the old West was finally tamed. I was unable to put this masterpiece aside until the final paragraph had been read. Regardless of your reading preference, I assure you will be unable to put this compelling story aside until you have finished the final paragraph! Your loss If you don't follow my recommendation!!!😃
I have mixed feelings about this book. What bugs me is authors like this author that either out of ignorance or lazyness put towns in their stories that are hundreds of miles apart and have the outlaw gang traveling between the towns in a matter of a day or two. The events supposedly take place in far west Texas and the outlaw gang rob a bank in Commerce Texas which is well over 500 miles away.
these two guys are great full of adventure really really keeps you occupied even to the point my wife goes ballistic ie: your dinner is ready once your dinner is on the table twice its going into bloody bin I am so into these books already into the next one keep up the good work my friend we all need to get out on to the range way from this lousy pandemic
From page 1 there was never a lack of excitement nor a lack of quality plotting! Despite some strange word choices and randomly placed commas, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Trials and danger, hostages, shooting and wounded, women prisoners, shamefully tied up,where are the heroes, just in time justice prevails guilty are hung for their sins
Exciting and captivating. It was a little long and sometimes predictable. Excellent read. Captivating and interesting. Keeps your attention all through the story
