Supernatural Speakeasy #5

Hex, Drugs & Rock and Roll

Rate this book
There’s a dark shadow hanging over the French Quarter, and Ofelia Archer is constantly looking over her shoulder because of it, waiting for the enemy to strike. While searching for one enemy, however, she finds another.

On what was supposed to be a relaxing day on the riverwalk, a knife-wielding man tries to take out a street performer and chaos ensues. Ofelia manages to disarm the assailant, but when he’s being loaded into a police cruiser he explodes – literally – releasing a wave of magic that knocks down everybody in Jackson Square.

Upon waking up, Ofelia is convinced it was some sort of surgical attack. When some of the people present at the event start tracking her down with murder on their minds, she becomes more convinced than ever that she was right.

Tourists, police officers, and locals are becoming possessed. The one thing they all seem to have in common is a need to track down Ofelia … and end her.

Zacharias Sully vowed to protect Ofelia no matter what. The odds this time feel longer than ever.

Ofelia and Sully are a team. Working together, they must find a hidden enemy while another stalks their every move. It’s going to take both of them together to come out safely on the other side.

What’s waiting for them there might be even more terrifying.

Griffins, Golems and Girlfriends!

As they wind down after the Hexential Oils debacle Ofelia and Sully have only one plan in mind and that's spending some precious time relaxing and trying not to talk about the griffin in the room who they are well aware will want revenge for the loss of his daughter.

A meander along the Riverwalk up to Jackson Square and they bump into Felix working as a statue. He's decided that it's time to settle down and find a permanent girlfriend although settling into permanent work is still an unlikely prospect!

When an attack comes out of nowhere, aimed at another street entertainer, singer Bruce Payne, Ofelia and Sully do their thing but the assailant explodes with a magical burst that knocks the entire audience flat. The only thing it could be to leave no trace is a Golem, but why would someone create such a thing to attack Bruce? And why are some of the people knocked flat in the blast now coming for Ofelia?

With her father and brother adding to her woes can Ofelia work out what is going on in time to save the city she loves and the people who make it special.

New Orleans magic

I loved visiting New Orleans again and what a supernatural mystery this one was... That Griffin has become a pain but Ofelia and Sully are on it... well in between cuddles, walks and magical baths that is...lol
I really love how laid back these two characters are, until they aren’t, it’s funny and endearing it also makes this series pop for me. Fe’s dad is a trip and sometimes I wish he would trip and knock himself out but Fe is amazing with him and Sully is freaking awesome. As for Felix he is a great brother and I hope he finds the ‘one’ soon just not another homicidal blonde...

Extraordinary paranormal urban fantasy cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal urban fantasy/cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Ophelia is a bar owner in New Orleans Louisiana. She took over the bar after her father retired. She lives in an apartment above the bar and her father helps her run it. Her boyfriend is in New Orleans police detective. Her brother does odd jobs around town. Her mother is a minor socialite about town.
Ophelia also happens to be a powerful witch and her police officer boyfriend is a panther shifter. Ophelia is well known in the quarter in New Orleans and helps protect it’s citizens from evil from all sides. Including supernatural sides as well as mundane sides. Along with her boyfriend family and friends they search out and stop or destroy supernatural evil doers. In this particular story a bit of the past comes back to Hunt/haunt her. Read on and enjoy the mystery the intrigue and see if you can figure out who it is and where they are and what you’re doing. Have fun.

LOVED IT!!! REALLY REALLY good mystery!!! Unique paranormals involved this time. MANY of the characters from previous books are in this one also. My fav. is Pascal!! the Vampire pretending to be a human pretending to be a vampire!!! AND he likes to slip a gossip magazine into a big ole TOME of a book to look impressive while he reads dirt on celeb.s. He's also a very nice "person" as well.
OHHH the MYSTERY!!! can't tell much without ruining it for you though. It's a MOST EXCELLENT mystery though. The romance between Sully and Ofelia is AWESOME and AWESOMER!!! LOVE THEM!! LOVE the dialogue throughout the entire SERIES!!! I love snark with a bit of intelligence to back it up. OOOOH and best of all on of the most detestable characters gets what's coming to him!! a bit anyway. It wears off... eventually. LOVED that part!! and many many more.
There are several quote worthy passages throughout the series too. I always like it when the author lets the characters demonstrate their depth of character and humanity so eloquently.

Following on from book 4

The griffin is still out there waiting to strike. Seeing as Fe killed his Daughter he’s not going to be all too pleased with her.

They have bigger problems when there’s aftershock.

Who or what is behind it?

There is an open air attack in Jackson Square and a supernatural force explosion 💥

The characters as always are a hoot and when Felix decides he wants to find “the one” Fe and Sully have no choice but to be supportive.

Oscar’s mental health is a running issue and as much as I love the laughs I do appreciate the Lily is including this subplot about mental health.
Having dealt with someone who has bipolar and whom the Doctors actually took a long time to diagnose it’s refreshing to see it put it in a way people understand.

It’s literally how it affects the person. Right down to what they say. So I applaud her for that.

Loved this addition to series.

I loved this addition to the series. I don't wanna give away any spoilers in this summary covers what the book is about. Ophelia and Sully are closer than ever, And I think that's so lea's actually making headway with her dad. Felix is Felix and he's awesome and hilarious even if directionless. Glad everyone stayed relatively safe in this book, although a lot of people were hurt. Fun and sassy. Love Ophelias magic. She's pretty awesome. Sully is great book boyfriend material. Looking forward to the next in series.

Fun and witty but predictable

It's good to get the griffin story line wrapped up properly. And we have both the vacation and oil rig stories to anticipate. It is a bit hard to keep the two worlds Lee and Hart straight when you read as many of the author's books as you can; I keep hoping Felix will run into Izzy's bruja grandfather. It's hard to keep track of whether the rules in both of her worlds work the same (although they may understand them differently, or use different vocabulary), or if the worlds actually have different rules but use the same words.

I Put A Spell On You

This one is another home run for Lily Harper Hart. The Supernatural Speakeasy is the only series I read by Ms Hart, and I promise it’s worth every minute of your time. Ofelia killed a Griffin’s daughter in the last book, and now daddy wants revenge. Will Ofelia figure out his new appearance in time to save herself and those she loves? Buy the book and find out!

As a bonus, there are some amazing cocktail recipes at the end.

A magical bomb?

A disturbing action in Jackson Square has police there to take the man into custody. Unfortunately, this is not a normal arrest. The man exploded! And a wave of magic erupts across the square. The officers were the closest to the blast, but seem to recover. Until later that night, when they attacked Ofelia. The really strange thing was that there were no remains of the thing that exploded with magic!

I’m done with this series. It started out good, but each book gets more and more sickly sweet with all the flirting and back-and-forth between the two main characters. Enough with him and all his lovey-dovey reassurances and her inability to accept what he’s offering. So, I am done with this series.

Oh, and when is he going to shift? I feel like I’ve missed out on half the excitement of having a shifter in the story…why bother if he never shifts?

Great

The griffin story has ended. Some interesting magical mayhem and character development. Nice to see some of the Paranormal unit bits. I think more of Pascal would have been fun but still an entertaining and enjoyable read. Recommended series and author. I also recommend her works under Amanda M Lee.

Fun with heart.

Anyone who likes strong female characters, a bit of magick, and romance has found their author. This particular series is like a fun guide to New Orleans and surrounding area. I love the history that is gently blended with the ambiance and personalities - you can really see the story and city unfold.

A really good series - I anxiously await each new book release. Great characters, interesting paranormal adventures. I did note a few references to bacon - that shouldn't even enter into this series - that belongs to Bay and Landon! :)

I am grateful that this author is such a prolific writer - gives me something new to read all the time in many great series that I highly recommend.

Hex, Drugs & Rock and Roll

I really love this series! The description of the locations, development of characters and excitement of reading the strong characters deal with the plot crisis guarantees a read in one sitting. Hard to call a book a page turned when it's in my kindle but that what this was!!

Book 5

Jackson Square, full of locals and tourists listening to music, until Ofelia notices someone strange sneaking up and takes him down. Sully is near the Police car as the "perp" is being loaded in and "Fe" sees something and calls to Sully right before the man EXPLODES! Of course neither Ofelia or Sully can stay out of it, so they are off on their next adventure!

Snark, sarcasm and paranormal the best combination

I have read all books by this author. The sarcasm, the snark, the romance and the plot is all combined to make the book a must read! Each character is well thought out and the plot is so well written so you will have trouble putting this book down.

Excellent

Ofelia and Sully are trying to have some down time after their fight with Montgomery Hall's daughter and once again, the French Quarter is a happening place! The fight will be on to get to the bottom of this mystery! Of course we have to add Felix and Oscar into the mix of chaos. Looking forward to the next, Great job!

Better than most

This was a good but is there a reason a girl who knows about the paranormal doesn't know any thing about some of the creatures, even if there dead, alive or myth. She an zach needs to stop with the annoying crap too. If you gonna talk about the case do so why stop and then start flirt and start back up again.

Not my favorite of the series so far. Maybe it's just becoming a little predictable? Also, they can't keep their hands off each other and every other word is either about how wonderful they are or the father/brother/mother fussing that they are perverts. I mean, find another complaint why can't you? It felt like the same conversations were just being recycled in the next chapter.

This is a fun series set in New Orleans with an emphasis on the paranormal. The characters are fun and the conversations are humorous. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. I can't wait for the next book!

This was another fun read

This was another fun read for a lazy day of reading! I can always count on a good read by this author! If this is the first book for you in this series, I would recommend reading book 4 of you haven't, or it could be a bit confusing. Happy reading!!!
