I have never been able to read a Shakespeare play through, but this novelization makes the story accessible. My only wish has nothing to do with the writing; I wish the book was titled Shakespeare's Macbeth: A Novel, or something that doesn't ignore Shakespeare's contribution to the story. I like that I now know the story of Macbeth and Hamlet (from another novelization by the same author), something that would never have happened without such novelizations.
Of course it is a great story, it's Shakespeare! But very well written adaptation of the play to a novel. I enjoyed listening to this and understood the story and the complexities of the characters so much better. I'd definitely read more of Shakespeare redone by this author. Only 4 stars because the story wasn't original.

This took me a while to get into, but once I did, I found it compelling. It seems to have added some elements from the original Shakespeare, but mostly backstory - not necessarily anything changed.
