Ever consider running your own Airbnb? You’ll likely abandon those rosy thoughts after reading this book!

Hannah is a stay at home mom, raising her two kids. Her husband is a cardiac surgeon always busy…lately much too busy for his family.

So to keep herself busy and fulfill a lifelong dream, Hannah converts their barn into a posh vacation rental.

And, oh joy! Enter the renters from hell. Mike, Nadia and their young daughter settle into the rental. By the weeks end they dig in, refusing to vacate.

Soon this dream of Hannah’s quickly descends into a deadly nightmare!

I must admit, my anxiety increased as the visitors' behavior became more bizarre and unsettling. I so wanted to help Hannah, since no one else seemed to want to step in.

Overall a fun, rapid-fire thriller. My second book (audio) by Miranda Rijks and will certainly be keeping an eye out for more of her works!

Audio Book Review

Narrated by: Penelope Rawlins
Length: 8 hrs and 33 mins

The renters from hell have booked Hannah's newly renovated, lovingly decorated, Airbnb. It has always been her dream to run a holiday vacation place of her own. She cringes when Mike and Nadia show up for the stay.

They are loud, rude, untidy and expect to be entirely catered too! Mike especially got on my nerves with his oaf like behavior. Poor Hannah! Her cardiologist hubby, Daniel isn't much help with his snappy attitude. He likes to play the blame game.

Things spiral further when the shenanigans next door get unbearable. Hannah is forced to do some sleuthing of her own. Her detective mode is in high gear! Something is up with these sketchy guests and she needs to uncover their modus operandi.

You go Hannah!

The narration was great! Hannah had me on edge for most of the story. There are some unlikeable characters and tired tropes used, so beware. The twists were pretty predictable for me, But the journey was still a fun and lively ride that I enjoyed!

Recommend for a weekend listen, pair with a bowl of buttered popcorn and beverage of your choice.

Hannah is married to a busy cardiac surgeon, and is often left on her own with her two young children. She’s looking for a project to occupy her time and decides to convert their barn into an Airbnb.

Her tenants, Mike and Nadia, turn out to be the tenants from hell. They are obnoxious, intrusive, demanding, break all the rules, and cause all kinds of trouble for Hannah. She is desperate for a 5-star review, so says nothing, but things soon take a far more sinister turn.

You won’t find any likable characters here, so if that is essential to you, I recommend skipping this one. I grew frustrated with Hannah for her cluelessness and lack of a backbone. The entire situation could have been avoided by having the visitors evicted when they refused to leave. I grew weary over her angst and worry about reviews, as if that is a good reason to tolerate an unbearable situation. Also, the men are all depicted in what has now become a common stereotype, and I’m tired of it.

The prologue was a bit of a head-scratcher. Maybe I missed something, but I didn’t see where it was ever explained?

The narrator of the audiobook did a good job with the character of Hannah, but I didn’t care for her narration of the other characters. There are plenty of 4 & 5 star reviews, so do check them out. A very middle-of-the-road book for me, which isn’t a bad thing. A 3 or 3.5 star review means I liked it but there were a few problem areas for me.

* I received a digital audio copy of the book via NetGalley. All opinions are my own

Hannah is a well-off wife and mother of two children and seemingly doesn't have any problems in her life other than getting her lifelong dream on it's feet which is a high-end holiday rental cottage. She has only rented it out once and now she is fully prepared for her next guests. This is an expensive rental so she is a little caught off guard when the family arrive in an old beat-up car and their appearance leaves a lot to be desired but she knows she shouldn't be judgemental and if they have the money to pay for all this luxury then there shouldn't be any problems. The cottage is rented for a week and then a new party will arrive and Hannah just wants to get good. reviews so this will become a flourishing business especially since her husband considers this a hobby for her and not a real money maker so she wants to prove her business sense to her husband as well as herself. The first day starts a little rocky but when problems keep occurring day after day and the family is turning the cottage into a pigsty, Hannah just wants them gone. Suddenly, an unexpected accident occurs that they are placing the blame on Hannah and they will have to extend their stay and Hannah is just beside herself with anger and anxiety but also trapped by this manipulative couple that are beginning to suffocate the life out of her and the relationship between her husband and herself is getting very strained yet Hannah keeps hoping things will quickly be over and maybe they will but not in the way Hannah ever expected as her life turns into a downward spiral and she wonders if she will ever be free again.

This was a fast and enjoyable read with some really terrific twists and suspenseful moments. The first half of the book was a crazy nightmare and I just couldn't read fast enough. The second half brought in many other other unexpected aspects to the storyline which made for a a clever well-plotted story. I highly recommend this book to any mystery or suspense reader who enjoys a really good psychological mystery.

I want to thank the publisher "Incubator Books" and Net galley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have given this story a rating of 4 Clever and Exciting 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

Hannah is a stay at home mum with two children she has a perfect life except she has always wanted to have something for herself, she decides to open a holiday cottage with its views over Manchester.
She is so happy to rent her holiday cottage out to Mike & Nadia & daughter Kayleigh Jones, BUT WAS THIS THE WORST MISTAKE SHE COULD EVER MAKE!!

Hannah soon discovers that her rental is not hers anymore Mike changes the locks gets a dog for their daughter when knowing fully that there is no pets allowed, but things start to spiral out of control as Mike ends up dead, Hannah's husband Daniel who is a cardio thoracic surgeon is taken into custody for the murder, Hannah is beside herself with worry she knows that Daniel would never kill anyone as he saves lives everyday in his job.

As the plot thickens we find out that all is not what it seems, there are twists & turns at every corner in this book i could not put this down i could have yelled at Hannah sometimes as Daniel was belittling her all the time i would scream leave woman! but no she stayed. a good psychological thriller that was enjoyable yet creepy at times.

Hannah, SAHM to Rosa and Joel, is looking for something more to occupy her time as the kids get older. Husband, Daniel, is a prominent cardio-thoracic surgeon and travels frequently. Hannah decides she wants to convert their barn into a holiday rental to keep her busy. Daniel isn't really feeling this plan, but goes along with it.

They get some interesting tenants, Mike, Nadia and daughter, Kayleigh. They make a mess of the place, throw loud parties, are always dropping off Kayleigh to play with Rosa, and they even change the locks. What nerve! When Mike trips and breaks his leg they threaten to sue if Hannah doesn't allow them to stay longer than the week they paid for. I could smell the set up from a mile away. Hannah has no choice but to agree, but soon she finds out she should've kicked them out as she learns more and more about why they're really there.
Then there's a murder that really amps up the story. How far will Hannah go to find out who the murderer is? And will what she uncovers be what she expected?

This is my 3rd book by Miranda. I do enjoy her writing style, but it seems she has a theme of writing the wives as somewhat scared of their powerful, career oriented, older husbands.
All in all, a great fast paced, psychological thriller that will make you think twice about becoming a landlord.

8 hours and 33 minutes and Penelope Rawlins was an alright narrator. I didn't enjoy all of her voices, but her main one for Hannah was spot on. I might have enjoyed this slightly better as a read.

QUESTION:
What happens when "tenants from hell" rent a newly renovated holiday cottage?

ANSWER:
A hellishly suspenseful thriller, with many ultra-compelling twists and turns.

"The Visitors" is a classic Miranda Rijks thriller:
intricately plotted with strong characterizations and gasp-worthy misdirections.

(I gasped twice when the book ended.)

The book was unputdownable and unpredictable -- providing readers with a wild ride from beginning to end.

I listened to the audiobook and the narration was superb.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm obviously in the minority here, but this book was not for me! I went in mostly blind after seeing so many 4 and 5 star ratings. It's as if I read a completely different book! It started out interesting enough, but soon I wanted to DNF but stuck with it. I don't like to leave poor reviews,  but obviously this author has a following who felt differently. The prologue was so distasteful and didn't even seem to make sense with the rest of the book. So many unlikeable, stereotypical characters except for the protagonist, who was clueless and naive. I felt for her and was rooting for her, but the story was improbable, convoluted and extremely frustrating to read. Rijks seems like a good writer, I would check out other books that are of a different vein.

This is the second book I have read by this author having enjoyed 'The Arrangement' earlier this year. I really enjoyed this from start to finish and didn't want to put the book down. Great characters that were frustrating, horrible human beings but great to read about. Well paced addictive plot that certainly gripped me. I found the authors note at the end of the book explaining her situation very interesting.

Hannah and Daniel have a great life, Daniel is a successful cardiologist and Hannah is a full-time mother to two young children and recently taken on her own project. They have converted the barn into a top of the range holiday rental. Everything is going smoothly until the new visitors Mike and Nadia come to stay at the holiday home. They are the family from hell, loud, filthy and disrespectful, certainly not the ideal guests Hannah had in mind and she is concerned what state they will leave her dream home in when they leave.

The problem is their untidiness is not the only problem they have and signs are that there are other things Hannah needs to worry about. Her family and all her dreams are under threat while the visitors remain. With no sign of the end of this torment Hannah feels the need to take action and fight back.
A really enjoyable and addictive read.

We all have a favourite author where you are guaranteed a great story and for me this author is one of mine. I have loved all of her other books!!

Hannah’s husband Daniel is a successful surgeon. She has converted their unused barn into a luxury holiday let and is hoping this new enterprise and her 2 children will keep her occupied, whilst her husband spends many nights working from home.

Along comes the Jones family. Mike, Nadia and Kayleigh who is nine. They have booked to stay in the barn, but all is not well, let’s just say that they are not people you would want as your neighbours!!

Without giving anything away the Jones’s complaints spiral into something more threatening and Hannah realises that her life will never be the same again!! To think at the beginning she was worried about a bad review from this obnoxious family and now she just wants them to leave!!

I was completely enthralled with this book and would highly recommend reading it.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

The Visitors is the latest standalone psychological thriller from bestselling author Miranda Rijks. and while her books can often be hit and miss for me, I felt this was her most accomplished and nerve-wracking to date. The prologue lands you right in the middle of the drama and details the thoughts of an unidentified murder suspect handcuffed in a holding cell. We then rewind to two weeks earlier and the lead up to the arrest. The story follows married couple Hannah and Daniel Pieters and their two children: eight-year-old Rosa and six-year-old Joel. Daniel works long hours as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon and is an arrogant, narcissistic guy, while stay-at-home mum Hannah has been busying herself with a renovation project. Best View Barn, a disused building on their stunning rural Cheshire property, has taken seven years of blood, sweat and tears to bring up to the Pieters’ exacting standards. Hannah had taken this on almost single-handedly, along with her family obligations and job as a piano teacher, as Daniel works away in Manchester and London for the majority of the week. With the intention of turning it into a successful business venture, Hannah has equipped it with a country-style kitchen with handmade tiles, fresh lilies and fragrant sweet peas adorning the rooms and beautiful furniture; all top quality and stylish yet hard-wearing.

The last couple to rent had been older and kept to themselves, but Hannah hopes the next visitors will be more interactive. Nadia and Mike Jones and their daughter Kayleigh, from Sussex, have paid in advance to spend a week in this idyllic Peak District location. Mike makes some unkind comments and she notices they have more luggage than they need for their short break. Hannah does her best to accommodate the couple, even baking them a Victoria sponge cake to welcome them, but nothing is ever enough for them and then she works out who they are. Is a terrible secret from her past finally coming back to haunt her? Well, this is enough to put me off wanting to rent out our second home as a holiday let, that's for sure. It's a terrifyingly realistic story with intense drama and palpable tension running throughout, and I enjoyed the slow-burn nature of it. The cast is mostly full of detestable characters but they are memorable, and I felt sorry for Hannah who feels trapped in an unhealthy, abusive marriage. Rijks has once again created a thoroughly gripping and compulsive psychological thriller, which had me quickly under its spell. From the very beginning, I was engrossed in the story and it's evident that the author is learning more and more about how to scintillate her readership with each new book she publishes. Undoubtedly, her best so far. Highly recommended.

THE VISITORS is a standalone psychological thriller by from the best-selling author, Miranda Rijks, author of Roses are Red and The Arrangement.

Hannah has it all being married to a successful cardiologist Daniel, and mother to two young children: eight-year-old Rosa and six-year-old Joel. As Daniel, recently promoted consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, travels frequently to London or Manchester a few nights a week and away from home, Hannah decided to take on a project of her own, so she occupied her spare time with a renovation project, converting their stone barn into a beautiful holiday rental. She had to juggle her duties as a mother, wife and job as a piano teacher. It took seven years to complete the renovation of the barn, with the intention of turning it into a successful business.

Things turn bad when the new visitors Mike and Nadia come to stay for just a week with lots of baggage. They are noisy, dirty and disrespectful. Hannah is worried they may wreck her restored barn.

Hannah tries to accommodate her visitors…but nothing pleases them! She soon realizes that Nadia and Mike aren’t here just for a holiday - they have a deeper, darker purpose, one that threatens to destroy Hannah’s entire life.

A shocking secret from her past coming back to haunt her…

But now, Hannah has to find the courage to fight back.

My heart went out to Hannah and all her struggles and drama. While having to deal with a husband who was rarely around, who put her down all the time, and having to deal with these ungrateful threatening visitors, life was not easy.

The Visitors was a really enjoyable and addictive read. I was gripped from beginning to end.

Many thanks to the author, Inkubator books and Netgalley for my digital copy.

The Visitors by Miranda Rijks is the perfect read if you are looking for a twisty thriller that will hold you in its grasp until the final page. For me, this author is one who can do no wrong, and this latest offering proves no exception.

Hannah is married to surgeon Daniel, and decides to convert an unused barn on their property to a holiday cottage to let. Daniel spends many nights working away, and it will be nice to have some company from time to time on the property, both for herself and her young children. But the enterprise is off to an unexpected start when the Jones family arrive, beginning with the litany of complaints that Hannah does everything in her power to remedy and appease. As the guests continue to make things increasingly miserable, Hannah realizes that things are spiralling out of control and that her life as she knows it might never again be the same.

This is my favourite type of thriller, and it ticks all of the boxes for a truly unputdownable read. I cannot wait to see what the clever Ms Rijks offers up next. 4.5 stars

Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my ARC. This is a fast paced thriller that had me hooked from the start. Hannah’s second set of guests to her holiday cottage has her anxiously awaiting their arrival. She has put in time and care, not missing a detail of the perfect experience at her welcoming cottage, Best View Barn. From the onset there is something strange about her new guests. Demanding and rude, Nadia and Mike prove to be more than she bargained for. How can you escape danger when it’s right outside your front door?⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

THE VISITORS is a page-turning cracker!

A dazzling hall-of-mirrors psychological suspense thriller: intelligent, furiously paced, with Miranda Rijks signature jaw-dropping plot twists.

If you LOVE the fast-paced, pulse-pounding, thrill ride of a novel with heart and relatable, flawed characters, look no further!

As the novel opens via the PROLOGUE, someone is being charged with MURDER. The question is, whom? You must wait until the end to discover.

Two weeks earlier, we begin and end 18 months later.

Hannah is married to Daniel, a cardiologist (consultant cardiothoracic surgeon), and works away more often. Hannah's parents moved closer to them and helps out with the kids, Rosa and Joel. He has been married previously.

Life is grand. Hannah has been undergoing her newest project, renovating their barn for a luxury vacation HOLIDAY rental. This way, she has company when Daniel is out of town for work in London or Manchester at least two nights a week. He was not keen on having people on their property but finally agreed.

This is HER holiday cottage project and little business. She is proud of all the work and can call it her own. She has spent seven years with the building out and fitting it. She has put so much love into it, down to the best linens, furnishings, and flowers, to make it an inviting home away from home. The property is there adjacent to her house.

Her first guests just left, and all went well. Now she is preparing for the next. She is hoping guests will leave an excellent review on Trip Advisor.

However, the next GUESTS will be a NIGHTMARE from HELL!

Mike, Nadia, and Kayleigh (daughter) Jones from Sussex. They are THE VISITORS. They are weird, loud, dirty, rude, obnoxious, complain about everything, and want the opposite of luxury. From the time they arrive, it is one problem after another. She finds herself jumping through so many hoops but keeping her cool, so they do not write a bad review.

This will be the LEAST OF HER PROBLEMS.

However, things escalate, and Mike takes a fall and then threatens to sue them. They will not leave when the time to CHECK OUT since this is a one-level cottage and their home is multi-level.

She has another booking checking in, and now she cannot get rid of them. Now she is forced to pay for a costly last-minute hotel accommodation for the next guests since she cannot get rid of THE VISITORS. She is going to so much expense due to these people.

Who are these crazy people?

If that is not enough, the woman tries to befriend her and her daughter and throws themselves into their lives with no boundaries for privacy. They are nosy and crude. They also get a dog. They do not allow pets. These people follow no rules. They even change the locks! One thing after another. Mike also keeps talking about how much money Daniel probably makes and is brass and crude.

What do these people want, and is something more sinister?

Hannah finds Daniel is not supportive and wants her to get rid of the holiday cottage. Nothing is worth this. Hannah is not ready to give up. Something is not correct. She is determined to get to the bottom of this with a little sleuthing. These nightmarish guests are wreaking havoc on their lives.

The problems escalate to a showdown, and someone winds up dead.

WOW!! Leave it to Miranda Rijks to pull out her signature jaw-dropping plot twists. (more than one).

There is a complex backstory and connection. These people have a plan and history and want blackmail. Another hidden agenda changes the course of Hannah and Daniel's perfect facade of a marriage. Do you know your spouse and your relationship's past and present?

From the first page to the explosive emotional conclusion, the author grabs you with vivid settings, riveting tension, and suspense. You feel the fear and pain. You can be ruined in a world of social media in the hospitality business.

Those looking for a modern-day "Hitchcock-esque" thriller will find a winner!

Thank you to #DreamscapeMedia and #Netgalley for an ALC audiobook to listen to, enjoy, and review.

Miranda writes about strong women that face insurmountable challenges to overcome better on the other side. Again, as I have mentioned most recently, I have just discovered this UK author (living in the US), and this is my fourth book recently read, and highly impressed with each. I am making my way thru her back list. If you have not read this author, get on board!

My MR Reviews thus far:
THE INSOMNIAC (NEW)
WHAT SHE KNEW
THE NEW NEIGHBOUR
THE VISITORS

On a side note:
What I adore about the author's books —her special notes (letters from the author). I wish more authors would include this. It makes for a nice personal touch to connect you with the book. (why I created the #AuthorElevatorSeries)—To learn the inspiration behind the book and what sparked the story. Some audiobooks do this, or there is a separate PDF to download.

In this case, I listened to the audiobook (no letter). While I loved the audiobook narrated by Penelope Rawlins for an outstanding performance for all voices, the audio mostly never gives you a letter or inspiration from the author. I wish more would do this. I was curious since I enjoy this so much—so I downloaded the e-book, and there it was!

What a powerful letter about her experience renovating a holiday barn (not the same outcome), but I was saddened by the author's emotional account of having to move after her holiday project and her diagnosis with Ewing's Sarcoma cancer. Thank you for sharing your personal moving story and all you do to inspire others through your beautiful writing and storytelling!

Hannah and her husband, Daniel Pieters, live in a lovely home in the midst of a rural farm property on the outskirts of London. He's a cardiothoracic surgeon and works long hours in town, so Hannah and their two children are fairly isolated. Hannah decides to renovate a dilapidated barn and turn it into a holiday rental both as a project and to make a little extra money. She finally has everything redecorated and has opened to visitors. Unfortunately, the visitors -- Mike, Nadia, and their daughter Kayleigh, are anything but good customers. Things go from bad to worse as they wreak havoc on both the property and on Hannah's family. NO SPOILERS.

This was a difficult read for me and I almost DNF a couple of times. I can't tolerate characters who have no backbone and who make such horrible decisions that allow bad situations to become even worse. I did not like ANY of the characters in this novel nor could I relate to any of the various situations where Hannah is meant to be courageous and stand up for herself but doesn't. Although the ending and resolution were a bit of a surprise (came out of nowhere), I wasn't gripped by curiosity nor did I find much of it believable. Sorry, this was just not my cup of tea.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this e-book ARC to read and review.

It is amazing to me how all good intentions go out the window with this story.

Hannah is a wife And mom married to a cardiovascular surgeon and they are well off. They’ve restored a barn in the countryside and with it is another building in the property turned into a rental unit. This is Hannah’s “project” and she hopes to earn good money from it. Not that they need it, mind you. So while her husband was supportive of it and her, this all changes soon thereafter and he verbally degrades her later on about it. He is a self centered, cold, verbally abusive man who is hardly ever at home. Rarely calls home to “check in” or say hey, how is your day going. So I immediately did not care for him as I felt he had something to hide/something to prove. He is a world renowned cardiovascular surgeon and so all of you, don’t you forget it! Hannah continually drops any thought of confronting him; she is always making things nice and comfortable when he does come home. That includes a nice gourmet type dinner, keeping the kids clean and quiet and the house clean. No disruptions or problems for your highness, when he gets home!

Hannah, on the other hand, means well, but does not have the backbone to address any issues either pertaining to her husband, her family or these new renters who are on her property. And they all know she is a pushover and they all take amazingly advantage of her and continue to manipulate her throughout the book. It actually is quite insane what all goes on. Throughout the book I caught myself saying aloud, “Are you kidding me?”

What is to blame for Hannah’s personality is truly unknown, is it her upbringing? Her remote home life? Giving up her life for her husbands hopes and dreams? Her loss of having a backbone and not making waves? Having only a few friends? Always being a yes person even if it means putting yourself, your family, your property, your life - in jeopardy?
And that she certainly does.

And so it all begins with the arrival of Nadia and Mike and their young daughter, renters of the property Hannah had put together and posted in ads. And more than once in
the story, she is totally obsessed with getting good reviews from the people who stay at her property. And that’s why she is afraid to confront them and their idiotic goings on. They even took it upon themselves to change the lock without asking/telling her, the property owner! Who does that? Well these people do and they do so much more. It is absolutely insane what they do. They are the guests from hell.

From the get go, you know this is not going to go well or end well, so you must read to the end to find out what transpires.

3.5 stars for what I think is rather an outlandish tale but in today’s world this could very well be a true story.

This was a fast paced read where I could fully empathize with the frustration and fear that the protagonist was experiencing. The story centers on Hannah, who turns her barn into a holiday rental and ends up with the tenants from hell only the 2nd time she rents it out.

This is one of those books where there was always a feeling that something bad was just getting ready to happen, which kept the pacing high. The visitors, Nadia and Mike, were so out of line through a lot of the book that it set my teeth on edge. Poor Hannah had an unsupportive husband and no real idea of how to handle the issues that arose from these guests. While Hannah was a little naive, I could empathize with her for the most part.

The end of the book felt a little rushed and was pretty unrealistic in my opinion, but I still found it mostly satisfying.

Overall, I enjoyed this read and felt it was engaging and action-pack with a few surprises thrown in along the way. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Not gonna lie, I LOVE a good domestic thriller. I didn’t even know this genre existed until the world shut down and I was desperate for any audio book I could get my hands on quickly. So, that’s one good thing that came out of the timeline in which we live.

I have seen Miranda Rijks name a lot on Instagram and was excited at the chance to listen to her soon to be released The Visitors. I went in cold only knowing only the author and loving the cover, and this review will not reveal much because all readers should go into a book without expectations or hints at too much of the plot.

In brief, Hannah enjoys a countryside life with a posh cardiothoracic surgeon, two lovely kids and a lifestyle which allows her to start her own business running the equivalent of an AirBnb in converted barn space adjoining her home. The reader gets to see what that experience is like as she welcomes only her second booking of a family of three who can be described as sketchy at best.

I loved this book. The narrator, Penelope Rawlins, did an excellent job voicing all the characters and her style was perfect to keep me invested. This was a one day listen because I wanted to hear everything.

I won’t give away more but I will say at this point: if you are considering joining the short term rental program as a host, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen in advance of the August 2, 2022 release date.

Hannah, once a teacher, is now a stay-at-home mom. She is married to Daniel, a thoracic surgeon. She decides to turn their barn into a holiday vacation house to have something to do. Daniel is not really happy about it and, to me, is not a great husband. Their new tenants move in, Mike and Nadia, with their daughter and let's just say their stay is a nightmare for Hannah. She even ends up having to deal with a murder. What is happening here? Can Hannah figure out what to do?

Overall this was a great book. I have read several books by Miranda Rijks and they are always an enjoyable read. I basically know I am going to get a good story. Pick this one up if you enjoy a fast-paced psychological thrillers. I am looking forward to her next book!

This review will be posted on my Instagram blog (@coffee.break.book.reviews) in the near future.

Oh my goodness what a gripping read to start 2023. From the first chapter I was hooked in to the story line and just had to keep reading to see how it would all pan out. I had a love/hate for the Jones’ and their behaviour did make me cringe especially Mick. I did feel sorry for Hannah at times but really wanted her to be stronger. There was a few twists that I loved. My first book by @mirandarijksauthor and I can’t wait to read more of her books in the future. Thanks for recommendation @whatkelreads 😘 Also ticked off V for the A-Z challenge 🙌🏼

Another great read by a superior author!

Open your door to strangers - you never know WHO will be there!. A sure hit for Miranda Rijks!'

An unusual family stays at Alison's holiday cottage - rented for a week. Although the husband is a bit shady the wife and child seem to be OK (?). Then, it all starts with a sponge cake...

Gripping from the beginning -never lets you down!!!

HIGHLY recommend.

Many Thanks to Inkubator Books and NetGalley for a superb read.

Went in blind. Saw the high rating and decided to give this novel a go.
Unfortunately, there's too many unlikable characters. It's hard to root for an ignorant and naïve protagonist. I wanted to face palm myself so many times. The only thing I like was the ending, when everything was revealed. Just didn't care too much for the journey to get there.
All in all, not the best but also not the worst.

Interesting

I found this book to be interesting and it kept my attention all the way through. I felt it to be very well written and not as predictable as some books.

Hannah is hosting her second group of guests in her new vacation rental barn. She's a busy woman with two kids, a surgical doctor husband, and a sweet Labrador. The rental barn was just meant to keep her from being so alone at their in-the-sticks home while her husband is gone in London working. This new group of guests quickly proves to be much more of a handful.

Hannah came off as a bit hypocritical. She hates being so alone but yet when her guests engage her at any time she acts like it's the worst thing in the world. From the moment her guests got out of their car she had pegged them negatively too--not hospital. And she's so overprotective of them doing anything with her family. It was strange and made me wonder what her problem was.

Her husband, Daniel, was a total douche. Period. Full stop.

Nadia seemed like a woman in a tough spot. Her daughter was a brat and her husband, Mike, was a bigger douche than Daniel. Full stop.

This was a twisty ride that had no end of shocking sharp turns that kept me at the edge of my seat. I couldn't put this down, dying to know what would come in the end.
