The Last Ultimatum

When Iraq’s interim Prime Minister goes missing, an ultimatum is made and an unsuspecting American gets caught right in the middle of it. Michael Buchanan is assigned as special security detail for the man who would replace the current corrupt Prime Minister of Iraq. En route to his swearing in, the convoy is attacked and the would-be Prime Minister is taken hostage. The Iraqi government is given 48 hours to comply with the captor’s demands but negotiating with terrorists is not an option. With no room for error, Iraq’s president reaches out to United States President, Clark Williams, to plan a daring rescue. After narrowly surviving the attack himself, Buchanan is willing to do whatever it takes to get the future Prime Minister back before it is too late.

Action packed - Cussler meets Clancy

There are a few lags where the story seems to drag, but it's an action packed thrill ride face off between the CIA/Navy SEALs and ISIS set in Baghdad around a political kidnapping. Clive Cussler meets Tom Clancy in this clandestine war on terror pulp hero novel. If you have a few hours and an interest in the US's military involvement in Iraq, it's a good read.
