Feral Shifters #1

Rejected Mate

Rate this book
Hell hath no fury like a shifter scorned.

Three years ago, a darkly handsome stranger stole my heart. After one night together, I was certain I’d found my fated mate—until he rejected me and disappeared like a shadow.

I never told anyone about that night. I shoved the shattered pieces of my soul into a locked box and pretended I'd never met Kian.

But when a witch whispers a dire warning in my ear one day, everything changes.

Because I don’t just have one mate. I have three.

Feral shifters, she calls them.

Wild, untamed, and fueled by darkness, created by a magic no one has ever seen before.

These three dangerous, psychotic monsters could tear apart the world as we know it, unless I hunt them down and stop them first.

They say all's fair in love and war... but sometimes love is war.

Rejected Mate is the first book in the Feral Shifters series, a reverse harem paranormal shifter romance. It contains cursing, violence, anti-hero alpha males, steamy sex, and a badass heroine who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

Slow pacing.
Superficial characters.
Minimal world building.
Cliffhanger ending.
No I wouldn’t recommend this series.
1 it’s best to abort star. This is a case of do as I say not as I do.

Details:
The pacing was slow. I wanted to DNF this multiple times & I’m guilty of skipping several pages of the FMC guilt ridden insta-lust.
The FMC comes across as ill equipped, shortsighted, & TSTL.
The MMC(s) could use more depth & I would’ve preferred this book include some chapters from the MMC(s) POV.
This is a spin-off & it seems the author relies on the original series’ world building. That’s shortsighted being there is no guarantee all readers interested in this book are previous fans. This also leaves new readers with very little understanding & lots of guessing when it comes to the world building.
I would’ve DNF this if it wasn’t for a friend who pressured me into promising I finish book 1 & attempt to read book 2. She claims as the series progresses the author improves. So again I’ll reiterate do as I say not as I do.

Slow start but if you keep reading the storyline picks up and gives you a hell of an ending.

You’ll find your basic MC rejects FMC which still is not a favorite of mine. I miss the good old days where the man does the chasing but alas those days are not popular at the moment. World build is typical for a shifter read. Storyline started out very slow but became intriguing about 60% through. Would have rated higher for me if the timeline had moved a little faster.

Ending freaking peeved me off and was also freaking awesome! Didn’t see it coming!

Bummed the next book isn’t available 💔

Happy reading,
DD💕

be prepared to give this book ONE STAR. i cannot express how bad this book is. everything in this book is mid. it took place in the midwest BECAUSE IT’S MID. the main character MID. the love interests MID. her getting on a motorcycle naked M-M-M-MID. not the mention there is incest ?? My one mutual who has this book in their tbr, DO NOT READ THIS. the main character is so annoying too. not to mention how much unnecessary cursing there is. like the Amora literally talks like this, “fucking keian is so hot. but he’s so motherfucking stupid but he is so fucking hot. “ like did the author just learn how to curse ? LOL. take your expectations and lower them , raise them again, and lower them once more. Horrible book, not reading the rest in the series unless i feel like putting myself through hell and back.

WARNING - I'M ABOUT TO UNLEASH A BIT OF RANTING, SO BE PREPARED. 😉 OH, AND I'LL TRY TO NOT REALLY SPOIL ANYTHING, NO PROMISES THOUGH. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Oh, HELL NO!! How those jerk faces going to go and do my girl like that, without even a second of hesitation?! At first, I was sweating over here while reading Amora and Kian's first encounter. It was combustible. Too bad that it didn't last. At least Sable's mates all wanted her, was desperate to claim her right from the beginning, but Amora got dealt a crappy hand by fate. Seriously, if there was a customer service representative within the fated mates department, I'd be demanding an exchange. I had hope in them, especially Frost, and then after what happened between her and Malix on the beach, I actually had a tiny bit of hope. How naive of me. I wanted to junk punch Kian for almost the entire book, and in the end, I wanted Amora to cut his heart out with her blade. Frost had me expecting better from him, but he let me down. Malix, ohhh....if I was Amora, I'd be cutting something else off him before carving out his heart. He knew what they planned to do the next day, he knew the pain he'd cause, yet he still did that on the beach. I wish we would have had POVs from the guys, because as of right now, it feels impossible to redeem them. Shifters are supposed to be blessed with mates that make them the center of their universe. They are supposed to love them until the end of days, not repeatedly rip their mate's heart out. Not put themselves before their mate. I could understand why she felt she had to do what she intended to. I had faith in her that she would find another way before she'd have to do so though. But them, they seem to only care about helping themselves, not her, or the world. I want to know if they even care what may become of her if they succeed in their plan. It's hard not to feel the heartache right along with Amora. It has to kill pieces of her heart and soul to go through what she has, and if I was her, I don't believe I could ever forgive. Is it wrong that I'm almost hoping she'll be graced with a new mate/mates? That I want them to hurt with the knowledge that they lost the best thing ever. I want them tortured knowing someone else is getting everything they could have had. I know, I know, I'm a vindictive bitch. Anyway, as you can clearly see by reading this, the book sparked some serious feelings and emotions in me. I love when that happens. Good books should bring out feelings, should have you invested in the characters. And, if you're anything like me, after reading the book, you will be mentally pacing while waiting for the next one, hoping Amora gets to kick some serious ass. I think I need to go work off some of this aggression now. 🤣🥊🥊

~ Until next time, happy reading friends!

Confusing! BUT good all the same-

SPOILERS!!! Kind of-

Poor Amora! I’m pissed for her, but also angry at her like WTF?! I just don’t want these men to be redeemable either in the next books. Amora, was suppose to be this bad ass main character, but I saw her as weak. As if she was pretending because the mate bond was so strong, but also aside from a couple of references about the men’s nostrils flaring and pupils dilating around her it didn’t seem as the bond was nearly as strong from the men’s side. I hate when the main character is suppose to be this bad ass bitch, only to turn into some love/lust struck girl who at the very end is completely shocked when she’s betrayed?! Like chick, did you not see that coming because I sure did and it was predictable asf!!! I hate a predictable outcome, honestly! I want another man or men added to the mix who absolutely adore her!!! This is the first rejected mate reverse harem I read that didn’t sit well with me. The men had no redeeming qualities like not even a smidge! There was just nothing likable side from the description of their looks. This book was very vague as well we really didn’t get much answers to any of Amora’s questions... I definitely thinks those series would benefit from a multi POV from the characters!!! I mean who doesn’t love a multi POV?! Especially in this case because I just could not connect with the men at all!!! I hated the end too! it literally ended exactly how it began a lot of blah, blah I’ll kill you now that, that happened. The sex scene with Malek was BLEH city!!! I would like to see how this turns out, but with more steam!!! Multi POV for sure!!! And different men for sure as her mates!!! Please Callie I’m begging you to not let book two turn out like all the other rejected mate reverse harems! Where the main character just caves and now they’re so easily on the same team just like that. These men need to BEG for mercy!!! or not!!! maybe just give Amora some real LOVE with other mates and give her more grit/backbone when it comes to these assholes. PLEASE!!!

The smut in this book was very good! It actually had somewhat of a “good” story line (way better than what I have read in the past). This book ended on a cliff hanger, so of course I will probably have to go and read the next one. Overall, pretty decent!

Let down

At no time did I ever think the FMC could complete her task. Her three mates are awful, no redeeming qualities and with the FMC’s lack of ability to deal with them the storyline is a dud. There are a few other silly things, a 3 year break in time where there is a witch war that we just are told to not worry about. Nope, big no on this book. Bummer

DNF - quit at 32%
I really didn’t understand the premise of this story. Another reviewer said it was splintered off another series, and that the world building is in that series. I read the first 2 books from that series, & wasn’t impressed enough to finish the series or learn enough to help with this series. The plot wasn’t really worked out coherently to follow. You can’t throw in that in the 3 year gap from the prologue to where the story starts, there was a war of sorts & a witch whispers to her a horrible thing about her 3 mates. No explanation of who the witch is, if it’s a friend or random stranger. Suddenly she’s traveling on a motorcycle (& apparently has money to own a Ducati but no explanation for having money) to kill the 3 mates whom she’s only met & been rejected by 1 of them. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be near that particular one since he rejected her. It’s just to messed up that it pulled me right out of the story. Apparently she’s too stupid to live (TSTL). Without the POV for the guys or what their plan is, to even understand why the first one rejected her in the first place, they aren’t worth her time. Her chasing them could be a catalyst to them doing whatever evil they are supposed to do according to the witch that may have set her on this path to start trouble. She's idiot enough to believe a few whispered words from a random witch in a scene that’s just a recap of the words whispered, with no context to give it or the witch credibility. I’m done, not sure I want to try any more books from this author.

At my age (approaching 60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

I was pleasantly surprised that this story is about Amora who we met in the Claimed by Wolves series. I thought she was an awesome friend to Ridge and Sable so it's great that she gets her own story.

I enjoyed the start to this series, but will have to say it's not as good of a start relative to her other series. I will say what happened in the end made it intriguing enough (talk about damnnnnn) to want to know what will happen next, so I look forward to the next book.

Frost is my favorite so far and I can't wait for Kian to be brought to his knees. I think Malix is the most open thus far, and is the much needed light-hearted one of the group. However, I think there wasn't enough insight/development for the three Hs, while Amora's rumination of the guys were a bit repetitive. For now, it seems like other than the mate attraction, there's no reason for any of them to be remotely interested in each other. I think that's the part that bothered me. The lack of any type of real connection. There might have been a moment or two of something 'real', which leaves me to believe that the relationship will grow as things progress and it will be glorious.

I don't think this will be a series dud as Ms. Rose is far too talented based on her other works. I think the primary story line is unique and interesting; definitely interested to see what will happen if the Hs will succeed in their mission. I do feel a bit bad for the lower than usual rating, but I want to be honest with what I thought. I definitely will continue this series and recommend giving this a try.

Nearly a 4 star

It's an interesting premise, but the world building is just too thin in the first couple of chapters. There's a _massive_ chunk of time missing, apparently with a war and a sort of prophecy happening in that time that is barely explained, it gets about a paragraph. And then there's apparently at least one other realm, but that isn't explained either. You get tiny snippets of information later in the book, but never enough to truly feel like you know what this world is about. It feels like the book is a spin off, with the expectation that you've read the parent series, but I've no idea if that's the case.
On the other hand, I like the FMC (beyond the fact that I never really understood her mission) and the MMCs are interesting, with a strong thread of alpha-hole mixed with an undercurrent of vulnerability.

You know how sometimes when you read a book as a reader you have no idea what the heck is going on because it's only in one person's narrative and they have no idea, and you know there is obviously this huge storyline coming that will eventually enlighten you, but you're impatient and you just want to know what the heck the deal is with the storyline and it drags you on and on continuing to read to try and find out? Yeah that's what this story does, but as a reader I'm just unsure if I care enough about these characters to get dragged along in the dark any longer than one book. I might give it one more book since I've already got the next book, but this book certainly didn't wow me into wanting to read the next book. I'm more annoyed than enjoying the storyline.

For me the story was just okay. I did enjoy the elements of the Shadow realm I thought that was interesting and I would love to have heard more about that. Some parts of the story just did not work for me. Like why does she have to kill them. And who all of a sudden wakes up one day and decides to kill three people? Why did she spend like years looking for one of the guys and then is surprised and mad would he walks into the bar that she's at? You were looking for him right? That just didn't work for me. The rest of the story was pretty good it was just a little too out there for me to believe.

Amora meets a wolf shifter one night when she was out in town. However, he rejected her and she spent 3 years looking for him, after a witch told her that her 3 mates were destined to destroy the world. Amora couldn't allow it and she was willing to put an end to them. But when she meets him again, and her two new mates too, Amora realises that things are more complicated that she thought. Forced to travel together to find a cure for a poison, Amora and her 3 mates need to find what they really want.

For me this was more a 3.5 star read. I felt at times that the characters were pretty superficial, and some information weren't clear. Events happened in another series and characters are mentioned, and without having the information from there, it can be found confusing. I haven't read the other series, so I do not know who the witch who told Amora her future is or why Amora should trust her. I'll wait and see how it goes for book 2.

I really did not expect this to be a good read. Just a quick palate cleanser in between reads. My last RH and “bOnDeD” mates read ruined it for me big time, so expectations were lower than low . . .
But this was actually wicked GOOD. I was hooked within the first 50 pages. Our FMC Amora is a spitfire and she was fun to read. The men of this book are giving Heirs from ZA vibes, but less brutal… for now. My only complaint is FROST! What kind of name is that 😩 I hope this stays consistently good because I am RUNNING TO THE NEXT BOOK! The cliff hanger!!! Holy molyyyyyy!

If you are wanting a werewolf RH romance where you really don't have to concentrate much while reading it then I recommend this book to you. I just wanted a quick easy read and this book was great for that. I think this is a pretty typical rejected mates book, but we do add in the fact that Amora now wants to kill those mates that rejected her. Not as a scorned lover, but as someone trying to save the world. I think its interesting and it held my attention. I also didn't see the ending coming and I can't wait to see what happens next.

2.5 rounded up.

It would have been a 2 but the ending was great and unexpected so I’m bumping it up. Apparently a nice shock will help me to forget all the issues, who’d of thunk?!? 🤣🙈I wasn’t going to continue on but now I’ll at least try book two just to see how this all pans out.

read this on impulse and its a good thing because I liked it so much. I can't stop reading, just finished the first book now I'm getting the second. My only issue is that I hope in the succeeding books all "t h r e e" mates get equal attention. I just noticed that when Kian does something she gets very descriptive and words overflowing whilst the others were just in the sidelines. Kian basically gets the whole loaf, Malix gets half and my favourite which is Frost only gets breadcrumbs (that's why I'm a little bit annoyed). But I'm still going to read the series because I can't get enough and hopefully all of them gets equal attention.

I literally want to flaming swear or punch someone after that ending!! lol. What the bloody hell was that? That completely threw me but i cant deny that it was a cracking cliffhanger. You get lulled into a false sense of security only to have the rug pulled out from under you. Or should i say Amora (FMC) does because its her that goes through all of that but you go through all of it with her.

One night of passion with Kian and finding out hes her mate for him only to do a runner would make anyone a little bit annoyed. Which leads her to find out that hes more dangerous than she first thought from a witch and that your the only one to stop him. That kinda gives Amora the incentive to find out who he was and to stop him or try too. The only problem is hes not alone. Hes with Malix and Frost. Just when i was starting to like at least Malix and Frost they all p**d me the hell off!!! I cant even complain that much because this book was a bloody brilliant read. My only annoyance is that book 2 isnt out now so Ill just have to growl in the corner until it comes out, lol

quick PNR fun. kinda wish we got a bit more backstory and world building because i still don't really understand whats going on, but the interpersonal relationships are hella interesting and the snippets of the world that we've gotten so far are intriguing. I didn't realize that this was a spinoff series else I would have started with that first and that would probably have alleviated some of my world-building woes.

Without getting too much into it, this book is creepy and bad. It reads like a porno script. I’m not into multiple mates and the fact they are brothers trying to fuck with each other is just gross. And the main character is bland and unlikable. The cliff hanger was underwhelming and predictable to say the least. This is by far the worst fantasy romance novel I have ever read. If you feel like watching a bad 90’s porno, you’ll love it.

Well I love Amora- she is tough. The guys - well I was liking Frost and kind of Malix, but Kian was a jerk. Then that ending - not sure if I can forgive them for that. The story hooked me and I couldn’t put it down. Luckily book 2 is out so I can go see what happens next :)
