Accident or Homicide? State Trooper Gabriel Hawke is called to a vehicle on fire. When the steam and smoke clears, a charred body is slumped over the steering wheel. The Muzzleloader Rendezvous has attendees from all over the Pacific Northwest, but it’s the local club that raises Hawke’s suspicions. With the president of the club dead, rumors abound. I have been listening to the audio version of this series with Larry Gorman as the narrator. He's so good and has become the voice of Hawke. If you are lookin for a clean, murder mystery book, this series is for you. The twists and turns have you at the edge of your seat. This murder mystery is about discovering who killed the man in the burnt car, the president of the Muzzleloader club. There are so many characters that could have committed the murder that's it's fun to guess who did it. Hawke's character is so likable. These stories are clean with lots of twists and turns. I've been enjoying the series and the love interest developing between Dani and Hawke.

It amazes me how Ms. Jager can come up with all these twists and turns in each mystery book on how someone was killed. I enjoy reading about Gabriel and all his quirky traits. The subjects and background are so interesting, and I hate to put the book down once I start reading. I will think I have an idea of who killed someone, then a twist will happen in the plot and I an back to square one. I love these books and strongly encourage you to read this one. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

I enjoyed this book. This is the 6th Gabriel Hawke mystery and while Hawke was too busy to show off his tracking skills, like previous books, I still enjoyed it as it was a good and intriguing mystery. He is like a dog with a bone and once he starts an investigation he doesn't stop until it is solved and the bad guy's caught. There was a lot of suspects and a number of twists as the story develops, keeping it entertaining and the listener guessing. The story was all about the investigation, leaving very little room for characters other than suspects, some with some very unusual names that I bet the author had fun coming up with. Even the animals only play a cursory visit. Good job Hawke is such a capable character that can pull it off all on his own. The stories are always unusual and uniquely different but always well crafted to give you a peak into life as a Fish and Wildlife State Trooper, especially as the author backs up her stories by doing her research. The series can be read or listened to as a standalone but I would recommend you get to know the mysterious Hawke by enjoying them all.
Fish and Wildlife State Trooper Gabriel Hawke is called in to help out at a vehicle fire at a local camp ground. There he discovers The Muzzleloader Rendezvous, a re-enactment group and a murder. The club president is found in the burnt out car. Everybody in the group seemed to have a motive for wanting him dead and it's up to Hawke to work out who is responsible. He was a ladies man leaving behind a long list of jilted woman and jealous husbands but his work life was just as messy as his personal life. Hawke will have to work out the motive before he can find the killer.
I like the narrator. He helps keep the story entertaining by providing different voices for the characters.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Turkey's Fiery Demise, by Paty Jager, is the sixth book in the Gabriel Hawke series. Having read the previous books in the series, I was looking forward to reading this one and was not disappointed. State Trooper Hawke of Native American heritage is a man who has a good eye for what isn't normal. While on a routine assignment, looking for turkey poachers, he becomes involved in investigating a burning car and its dead occupant. And voilà, a good murder mystery that keeps the reader guessing to the end as to who the murderer is. Few clues, so many suspects, and plenty of twists to the plot, and the pages almost turn themselves. Muzzleloaders' rendezvous, murders, many motives, and much misdirection all make for an intriguing story. I like how Hawke doesn't give up. He relentlessly keeps at the task to fill in the blanks and find the killer. I am looking forward to reading more about Trooper Hawke and his friends. The narrator, Larry Gorman, does a great job giving voice to the characters as he reads the story, making for an enjoyable listening experience. I love how he actually whistles when Hawke signals his dog, Dog. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Started to try to read the Kindle of book 7 that I bought, when I realized that I missed this one. So I got the audio while it was on sale. We've been American Rev War re-enactors and had considered doing French/Indian War, so we are familiar with the period personas and similar things in the story.
State Trooper Gabriel Hawke is a called, committed, and driven man working for the Oregon State Police primarily as in the Fish and Wildlife division but gets drawn into a homicide. The witnesses/suspects are all Blackpowder re-enactors, and this makes the interviews a bit interesting. The apparent victim is both liked and hated because of the ways he uses people, especially other men's wives. And then there's his auto sales business run by his mother. And his wife. And other illegal ventures. Makes for a very involved and twisty investigation filled with red herrings! Loved it!
Larry Gorman (narrator) gives a good performance in the sense that I felt that he WAS Trooper Hawke, but it was easy to differentiate other characters as well.

State Trooper Gabriel Hawke is on the scene of a suspicious fire at a Rendezvous reenactment site set in the 1800’s. What he finds is a Jeep that has been rolled over a campfire and has burst into flames killing the occupant. Hawke begins his investigation by interviewing the participants in the Rendezvous to find out who was in the fire and what happened. What Hawke determines is the person in the fire isn’t who it seems to be. As he goes through his process of elimination he learns that the leader of the Rendezvous, James Pruss, is actually the one who set the fire and killed the person in the Jeep to cover up his embezzlement of around $200,000. But when James is also found dead, it is up to Hawke to sort out the mess and find the real killer which turns out to be a surprise. I really enjoyed this book and all the different characters. Hawke is a man of few words and says it like it is. He is such a great character! Read and enjoy!

I was a bit reluctant to start listening to this, as the last Gabriel Hawke mystery (Fox Goes Hunting) was a bit disappointing, but I adore Gabriel Hawke, and he was back in the Wallowas doing his job as a fish and game warden... so I figured that it would be a safe bet, and that I was gonna have fun with this one! And Yup, I did! It doesn't take long before Hawke finds a body and becomes embroiled in a twisted up murder mystery...
I really like Larry Gorman as the voice of Gabriel Hawke too. He's great at setting the stage with his voice and words... he gives credence to Hawke's dogged determination to follow the investigation all the way through to its end, even if it's his weekend off! LOL

I really, really, really like this series especially Trooper Hawke. Hawke incorporates his Native American culture into solving crimes. His tracking ability is superb and coupled with his image abilities, such as patience, places him head and shoulders above his fellow troopers!

I have always had to pay attention while reading this series to keep the subjects straight. This story was even harder as each suspect had two names one their reenactment name and the other their daily name. If you are into murder mystery, this is a series for you

Audiobook: I was entertained by book 6 of the "Gabriel Hawke" series. State Trooper Gabriel Hawke was called to the site of a burning truck where there were several troubling issues that made Hawke question whether it was an accident or a murder. This was a very convoluted mystery with many possible suspects. I liked how the plot unfolded to eventually reveal everything. I'm looking forward to more stories in this series. Larry Gorman's narration was entertaining, and his performance kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Turkeys Fiery Demise is an interesting story about a murdered man burned in his car during a historical reenactment get together. This is part of a series with a Native American tracker and investigator.

The narrator is the same one who does the whole series. He does a decent job though his telling is not as lively as I would like.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Faced with a dead man that nobody misses and too many suspects that could have killed him, Hawke may be on his most challenging trail ever. The mystery was filled with tempting red herrings that kept me guessing for the whole length of the book. Every time I thought I had a handle of who the villain was, Hawke would turn up a new puzzle piece that tore my theory to shreds. I’m loving Hawke and all the quirky individuals in his life. This is a series that I hope goes on for a long time to come.

Turkey's fiery demise, another story about state trooper Gabriel Hawk from Paty Jager, narrated by Larry Gorman.
Hawk seems to be obsessed to find the solution to another murder case.
But will he be able to find the killer before someone else has to die? And how comes it, that more or less all woman fell for one man regardless their age?
With a lot of twists and turns it's a fast paced story which surprises with each new obstacle.
Have fun!

Once again a compelling read!

I have read all the books in the series. Each has its own unique plot with familiar characters. They twist and turn enough to make it a challenge for the reader to figure out the "whodunit" . Always anticipating the next book in the series.

Not bad!

The author seems to be more detailed in describing things in this story to help fill up pages. Her first four books were more suspenseful. This one is more a who done it? Hawke is still Hawke. Not much rest till he solves the mystery.

Fascinating twists and turns

A really convoluted plot that falls into place at the end. A fun read. Hawke has become an excellent detective using his tracking skills to solve mysteries.

I love this series. State Trooper Fish and Game Warden Gabriel Hawke is called to a historical reenactment site in the Wallowa’s where he finds a murdered reenactor. I especially enjoy the Nez Perce tribal and cultural information introduced in each book. Eagerly looking forward to book #7.

Very slow

I enjoy this series, but this one was not up to snuff. It was a long way from the outdoors that makes the series work.

Hawke novel #6

Turkey's Fiery Demise is a very good book. The ending sets you up to read the next book in the series. Can't wait to read the next book in the series😀.

I love how you have to follow the evidence in this book to figure out who did it rather than have the criminals pop out at first and then find the evidence to fit them.

I always look forward to the release of the next Hawke book, and this book did not disappoint.

Hawke is on patrol looking for poachers shooting deer out of season, when he's called to a vehicle fire at a nearby camp ground. A group of people are camping 1800's style and somehow an SUV has found its way onto the campfire and has caught alight. Once the smoke clears, a body is found!

There follows the investigation into the fire, who the body is and why he was in the car. Murder or misadventure?

Of course, there are the usual characters mentioned in this book along with Hawkes animals Jack, Dog and new horse Polka Dot.

Always an enjoyable read, I can't wait for the next book to be released.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. State Trooper Gabriel Hawke investigates another murder. The book was fast-paced and held my interest. It can be read as a standalone story, though it is #6 in the Gabriel Hawke series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.
