Espectacular y emocionante.

«Solo podemos vivir mientras perdemos.»

Juzo’s backstory was a lot more tragic than I expected (I can confidently say I love him now). This volume definitely kept me entertained, but it felt like a lot of build-up to the grand finale, leaving me wanting for more. Nothing can happen to precious Kaneki—ever—but I have a hard time believing this series won’t end in tragedy.

....Arima's lack of presence has me feeling nervous. I just know that man can ruin everything

This story remains balanced between story, action, growth, and progression. Another enjoyable read! Thanks!

finally. EVERYONE is going in. 🍿🍿🍿 the hype is real.
besides the badass fight sequences we get:
- the heartbreaking backstory of juuzou
- THAT amon/akira scene
- tsukiyama groveling at kaneki’s feet (this hurts so much more now that I know it’s the turning point for his character)
- koma and irimi’s backstory
- touka’s breakdown
- the cliffhanger: the amon/kaneki clash of LEGEND is about to begin

overall: 5/5. I’m fucking obsessed with series.

*ATTENZIONE SPOILERS INSIDE*

In po' sociopatico Jūzō rimane.

This was so intense! The slow build with Juzo's backstory and Seido visiting his mum was incredible. I've never known a series that has so many strong male characters who are all equally important and all have so much depth in entirely different ways. And for such a huge cast, with three opposing sides, how is it possible that I have no hard feelings towards a single one of them?! I want them all to win and most importantly, I don't want anybody to get hurt.

AHHHHHHHHHH! Only one more volume left and I don’t have the words atm...

This volume was incredibly action packed and you know how I feel about these action scenes :/ (they are a bit messy and I’m not always sure what’s exactly happening) plus there were tonnes of investigators *clutches head*

However, I had serious goosebumps reading this volume - the stakes are at their highest and we have the biggest battle between the CCG and Antieku and Aogiri Tree! There will be deaths and I am terrified some of my favourites will be fatalities *cries*

Yoshimura is such a great character but I’m scared about his ending and I’m loving the ghoul Kaneki!! I’m definitely rooting for Team Ghoul :D but Suzuya has a special place in my heart especially after learning about his traumatic childhood :(

Probably closer to a 3.5 because the action was *confusing* and there were too many investigators to keep track of with everything going on rapid fire. However, the Juzo backstory, PHEW. Praying for an S-tier finale.

Battle scenes were not that interesting to me. What is interesting was Seido 's words in testament. "I don't want to die." Who wants tough?
Also, I felt sorry for Juuzo. Such a terrible past. (

A volume with tremendous balance in all of its ambitions — tragic and humanizing backstories, understandable and commendable motivations, tense and satisfying conflict, and strong and well-timed cliffhangers. The stakes have coalesced beautifully and the artwork is stunning to behold.

While some moments might be read as trite (Akira and Amon... it could have been worse, but it also could have been better), there's much happening, so I suppose a cliche or two isn't damning when used sparingly. Juzo is still a highlight among the CCG crew, but the Last Will & Testament bit gave me a bit more for everyone and was a still sort of moment that had an impact. Seeing more from Koma and Irimi had poignance, and I am waiting with bated breath to see more of Arima. We've had too much build-up for it to end in temperance, right?

While I do wish there was a little more buildup to the Doves deciding to hit Anteiku, there were some crumbs, which I suppose could be ✨️good enough✨️ in retrospect.

This penultimate volume is in many ways a bit of a return to form, with some ripe musings on the nature of humanity and the duality inherent within all of us. There's still something more I am hoping to glean from this series; here's to hopefully finding it in the end.

"All acts of taking are equally evil; we take from the moment we are dropped into life. We take from those around us, even from our own blood; we butcher, kill, and take as long as we live. Life is a continuous commission of sins. Life is evil itself. I recognize I am evil. You are, too. Now come kill me. I shall do the same."

4.3 stars.

And so the final moments of Tokyo Ghoul are upon us. This is the end, and all hell breaks loose.

This is the moment the cafe is under attack by the Doves. They have come to take out the one eyed ghoul. The first half is the build up, all the pieces moving into play, and getting a deeper meaning of why each character is doing what they are doing. The 2nd half is the fight, and oh my is it a bloody fucking warfare.

Good: I loved the hell out of the last few chapters. The fights, this time holding a ton of emotional weight, and you see the side of both the Doves and the Ghouls. It also has plenty of "oh shit" moment, including Kankei coming in to the picture the last minute to do some saving.

Bad: The slow build up might be hard to wade through knowing something big is brewing.

Overall this was a lot of fun. We know some people are about to die, forever, and that's scary but also exciting. The war has begun, who will survive!?

TOKYO GHOUL vol. 13

I nodi vengono al pettine e ormai ci siamo. Non si può evitare. E io sto male.

This review is going to be a mess because this volume was messy. So, you’ve been warned.

Everything I learn about Juzo breaks my heart 😭 I adore my freaky boy so much 💖 He could kill anyone he wants. I don’t care. That’s his right after what he’s been put through!

As an avid romance reader…my one response to Akira kissing Amon was: Oh but of course! Naturally. This was bound to happen. Do I ship it? Not particularly. Did I see it coming from a mile away? Of course.

I don’t have much else to say about this volume. I think the big fight that starts in this volume feels a bit random. Like, this moment has been hinted at for a bit (as the doves were interested in Anteiku), but it felt like the full force of it appeared nearly out of nowhere. Sure, I ended up being engaged while reading the fight scenes to see what would happen, but it doesn’t change the fact that there was a lack of flow and cohesion to this volume.

What's what in the story so far: The hunt for the One-Eyed Owl intensified as the CCG investigators threw their full weight into the 20th Ward. They would show mercy to any Ghoul and human getting in their way. Meanwhile, Kaneki rushed to 20th Ward despite the personal risk he must take to go up against CCG and its force. Investigator Amon v.s. Kaneki ensured!

More to come.
