A sexy running back who needs a nanny for his little boy. A waitress trying to hide from her past. Could she be the one to trust with his most precious possession? Could he be the man who makes her believe in love again? Only if they can take down their walls with the same ease that they take off their clothes. But when this single dad finds out the truth about his charming nanny, their sexy slow ride might come to a crashing halt.
Elliot:
My priorities are pretty clear. Take care of my five-year-old son and run that damn ball. But I can't find a nice, qualified nanny to look after him during the season. So when I help out a dazzling blond with her flat tire and she connects with my kid, hiring her to watch Asher seems like a brilliant move.
It's purely coincidental that Jessica Randall happens to be smoking hot, tons of fun, and every time she puts Asher to bed, I want her to get in mine. But that's off the table, because Asher adores her, and she's the first person to bring my boy out of his shell.
Sleeping with Jessica would be a huge mistake, and falling in love is an even bigger risk. But that just might be a risk worth taking.
Jessica:
Elliot Danes is an NFL star dripping with all the wealth and flash I ran away from when I was a teenager. Since then, I've lived a simple life, as far away from that world as possible. But a simple life means money problems, and a job as a rich guy's nanny would solve all of mine.
His kid's a doll, the job's a breeze, and the income is going to help the only person I love. But the sweet and sexy single dad is one big temptation that I can't resist. So when steamy sex turns into something serious, I've got real problems...
I'm falling in love with Elliot, and I'm crazy about his son, but the truth about my past could break both their hearts.
Breezie Bennett has had her fingers on a keyboard since she was a middle-schooler writing sports romances about her brother’s baseball team. A graduate of the University of Florida, she is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, can dance on pointe, and has been known to shotgun a beer in 5.2 seconds. When not writing romance, you’ll find her on a Florida beach with her two dogs, Ginger and Rosemary, and a playlist full of Pink Floyd and Lil Wayne.
A quick fun-to-read sports-related romance between a single super dad, his five-year old son and their new nanny. Nothing out of the ordinary in a story such as this. The characters were a delightful team -- a NFL player, an adorable little boy and his dog, Trash, and a blonde-haired nanny with secrets she hasn't shared.
A cute meet-greet on the side of the road, a trip to the dog shelter, along with lots of laughter and heated chemistry keeps this one on the scoreboard.
I’m going to give this story three stars mostly because I’m a sucker for the happily ever after and this one’s raised my mood to a happier place as I finished reading it. Or maybe it’s because I just finished reading Crazy for Loving You by Pippa Grant from the Bluewater Billionaires series and I so loved that book that comparing only the second book by a new author to possibly the best work by one of my favorite contemporary romance authors seems an unfair standard to hold her to? Whatever the reason I found this book, just okay. This is the story of All Pro and single dad running back Elliott Danes, his young son Asher and Jessica Randall a struggling waitress. Jessica has a secret. She’s the daughter of extremely wealthy parents from Rhode Island who disowned her when she ran away from home with a boy at sixteen and refused to forgive her and take her back when that brief relationship didn’t last. Elliott is desperate to find a suitable nanny for his painfully shy five-year-old son. While preparing to drop off Asher at daycare on his way to a practice Elliot comes across Jessica on the side of a lonely road changing a flat tire. Being the all-around good guy he is, he stops and offers to help her out. Being the strong independent woman Jessica is, she refuses his help. But during their conversation, Asher forms a rare for him bond with Jessica. Elliott is so stunned by his son’s response to the beautiful Jess that he offers her an extremely lucrative salary to be his son’s nanny. Jess, doesn’t trust wealthy people. She assumes Elliott is just another privileged, arrogant professional athlete and his son a spoiled rich kid brat. She doesn’t take his offer seriously. But when Jess gets back to the rundown apartment she shares with her pseudo mother Maria, a seventy—year old Cuban American woman who manages the diner Jess works at and took her in off the streets and gave her a job when she was a homeless sixteen year old, she discovers Maria’s health is declining and she’s not refilling her prescriptions because of the expense. She realizes that if Elliott’s job offer is legitimate it will give her enough money to help pay Maria’s medical bills. Here’s my first problem with this story. Maria is the diner’s manager and Jess is her assistant manager. Maria is bedridden with C.O.P.D. so Jess has been handling most of her managerial responsibilities. If Maria is too sick to work and Jess becomes a full-time nanny, who is managing the diner? Jess takes the job and moves in to Elliott’s and Asher’s home. In one of their very first get to know you conversations Jess tells Elliott her parents died when she was a teenager because that what she’s been telling everyone for ten years since they’re dead to her and it’s simpler than going into the whole story about how her parents were unloving, superficial assholes who turned their back on her after her youthful mistake. But couldn’t she as just as easily have said, “my parents and I have been estranged for the past ten years and we don’t talk.” without going into the details? Also, we’re told that her parents do send her a Christmas card every year and call her on her birthday. Which makes no sense to me if they’ve disowned her. From that point on it’s clear that this lie is going to become the issue that drives a wedge between Elliott and Jess. So, we know it’s going to happen and Maria tells Jess several times she has to fess up to Elliott about her lie. It just becomes a ticking time bomb throughout the story as to when. But then if you’re a veteran C.R. reader you know it will happen somewhere around the 70%-80% point in the story because it always does in this genre. Which also means there are really no real surprises in this story. You know exactly how the story arc is going to go. As expected as Jess spends more time with Asher and Elliott she becomes more attached to them both and they to her. Elliott and Jess spend time trying to fight their physical attraction to one another because Jess works for him and if something goes wrong in their relationship it will negatively impact Asher and Jess could lose the income she needs to help Maria out. But this is a romance novel and we couldn’t have a romance if these two keep fighting their attraction. My problem is Elliott whom in all other ways is just the perfect man, more or less seduces Jess to ignore their better judgement and have sex with him. Not that he has to coerce or twist her arm. She wants him as badly as he wants her. My problem is, he is her boss. And if it were framed in the context that he wanted a relationship with her and not just a hook up I think I would have still been alright with it. But whether he's lying to himself or not, he’s telling himself and her that it’s just a need for them both to scratch an itch. So convincing his attractive nanny to get naked with him definitely took some of the polish off of his shiny white knight armor for me. Once these two have crossed the line into a sexual relationship they both realize they’re sharing more than their bodies. So of course, at the most inopportune time the other shoe drops putting a temporary end to their relationship. After some tears, some soul searching and wisdom from the mouth of babes, they make up and live happily ever after. Hey this is a C.R. so we know this is all going to happen. And to be fair to Breezie even though it’s all very predictable she still manages to write entertaining scenes to get us from Point A. to Point B. It’s just the predictability of everything even for a C.R. story along with the other issues I mentioned made me only sort of like but not love this story. Decent but not great effort for this new author for her second time out of the gate. She did manage to make Chase Kennedy a little less of an ass in this book which is a good thing since he’s the male lead in her third book.
Y'all this is like all the best worlds coming together hello Hot single dad who is also a famous football player. This book was fun to read I truly enjoyed getting to know Jessie and Elliot throw in a adorable Asher and it gets even better. I didnt read book 1 but had no problem with book 2. Jessie hiding her truth from Elliot is rough and you keep cheering her own hoping she will but she doesn't. I was super surprised that Elliot didn't give her chance to explain but hello we all know the 5 year old has the best advice and realizes he made a mistake. I really enjoyed this book.
Between his career as a running back and being a single father to his son Asher, Eric has his hands full. He knows that he needs to hire a nanny but finding the right fit for both him and his son has been a challenge and he certainly didn’t expect to find the perfect person stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire.
As a teenager Jessica turned her back on the life she was leading and has created a new one for herself where she has found happiness even if it can be a financial struggle. Being offered the opportunity to be Asher’s nanny seems like the perfect solution as not only does it allow her to spend time with Asher, who has touched her heart from their first meeting, but it also allows her to help the one person who was there for her when she needed it the most.
The three of them become close but when her past is exposed will it bring them closer or tear them apart?
This is a sweet and sexy story about love, romance and family which includes a cute little matchmaker who is the smartest of them all when it comes to love.
Elliot and Jessica’s love story in Slow Ride by Breezie Bennett, book two in her South Florida Riders series, was a wonderful, sexy, and enjoyable tale. Take one hot and sexy running back in need of a nanny and give him a waitress who was trying to hide from her past. Elliot might be a rich, sexy, single dad, but his main priority was his five-year old son, Asher. Elliot needed someone who could help shy Asher come out of his shell and who treat him as a normal kid; no rich, spoiled brats please. Encountering Jessica on the side of the road with a flat tire was Elliot’s biggest piece of luck. Plus, Asher connected with her immediately, something he never did before. Offering the nanny job to Jessica was the best time to happen to either of them. Except, no matter how hot and sexy Elliot found Jessica to be, he could not sleep with her. Jessica has lived a simple life since she ran away from her wealthy family at age sixteen which meant she now had money problems; taking this nanny job could solve Jessica’s problems. Jessica never expected to be tempted by Elliot, and worried that the truth about her past would break everyone’s heart. Overall, Jessica was amazing with Asher and Elliot could have been “Dad of the Year” with the way he was raising Asher.
I loved the interaction between Elliot and Jessica’s as they spent time with each other. The sparks were flying as their shared chemistry defined their attraction. Neither Elliot nor Jessica could resist the temptation in front of them. Once these two start sleeping together, their steamy sex turns into something more serious, feelings of love, scaring both of them. These feeling might just be worth the risk, at least until Elliot learns Jessica’s secret. When he learns the truth about his charming nanny’s secrets, Elliot intends to stop their sexy, slow ride. Elliot then needs to decide if this is the lesson he wants to teach his son about life, family, and love.
Ms. Bennett wrote a fun, flirty, sexy sports rom-com that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, sexual chemistry, humor, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Elliot and Jessica a chance to discover they were truly each other’s soul mate and that they were meant to have a future together. I highly recommend Slow Ride to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Eric Dane, South Florida Rider running back and single father is ready to start the new football season but it has been difficult to find the right nanny for 5 yrs. old Asher. He is looking for a person who will teach his son real life lessons while making him overcome his shyness. As the only single dad in his team he feels like he is living and maybe missing some milestones of his own but it all changes one evening while driving toward work. A young woman was changing a flat tire and he stopped to help her, also hoping to start those life lessons for his son. For their surprise, Jessica totally managed to do the task on her own while breaking some of the little boy reserve and then and there a job offer is handed to her, no questions asked.
Jessica Randall works in a diner near the Fort Lauderdale area, she is a transplant from New Hampshire and has the coolest of roommates, Maria, owner of the diner and COPD patient. She helped Jessie when she moved to FL, offered a job and the feisty/nonsense kind of friendship/mentorship she needed. Unfortunately, COPD is serious business and she needed more medical care that proved to be $$$. Jessie can’t fathom not having her and accept the nanny job never mind the risk of losing her heart to the father– son duo. And so, the football season begins, young Asher starts kindergarten and Jessie gets on working for those who soon become the center of her life. The romance is magical, Elliot is the perfect gentleman and Jessie shine doing what she does best, bringing the best of others to the surface. She is not perfect, had some issues and inner angst to deal with but with the sound advice of her Mami, she will be able to tackle her demons.
In this second installment of the SFL Riders, Breezie Bennett goes for the slow burn and all the feelings big time. I fell in love with Elliot and Asher, Elliot and Jessie, the Riders, Maria and the diner’s crew. I fell head over heals over Asher and his talent show partner (cameos in future books, please?) As the series progresses, FL becomes a character in itself, so glad to see it thru the eyes of a young author who realistic showcase the Floridian experience.
💋💋💋💋💋 for this one!
ARC was provided, but these are my most sincere thoughts.
Slow Ride is the Second book in the South Florida Riders Series. While it's part of a series, this can definitely be read as a standalone book.
This new author writes like someone who has been writing for a long time. Loved the interactions of the main characters, as well as some of the interactions from characters introduced in the first book (but like I mentioned above - you do not need to have read the first book in order to read this one).
Elliott Danes is in urgent need of a nanny to take care of his painfully shy 5-year old son, Asher, after his nanny decided to retire and move back home to be closer to her family. After pulling over to help someone in need on the roadside, he happens upon Jessica, and immediately offers her the position after seeing how his son interacted with her so well. She is a waitress and at first declines but is in need of money to help out a woman she considers her surrogate mother after running away from home at 16. Jessica comes from a wealthy background, but her parents rejected a decision she made and kick her out and she wants no part of that life and her story has always been that she is an orphan.
The attraction between Elliott and Jessica is very strong, and they fight it because of Asher. Asher is so charming and it was so great to see how Jessica was able to help him with his shyness with a little help from a puppy that they named Trash after they got him from a shelter.
Enjoyed this very much. Loved how the story evolved and seeing how the chance meeting on the side of a road lead to 3 people becoming a family. I think it's something everyone will enjoy as well.
Slow Ride is a cute story about Elliot, a sexy single dad professional football player, his adorable, precocious, extraordinarily shy son Asher, and a feisty heroine, Jessie. Elliot is having trouble finding a nanny for Asher because he is so timid around other people. When he’s rushing to practice, Elliot stops to help a girl with a flat tire and is so surprised that Asher actually speaks to her that he spontaneously offers her a job as the nanny. (He also notices her attractive curves and sexy body.) Jessie is the damsel in distress that demonstrates she is fully capable of changing her own tire. She initially laughs off the offer, but later realizes the money that Elliot is offering would help with the health care costs of her older roommate who rescued Jessie when she was sixteen with no apparent place to go. Jessie and Elliott quickly fall in lust with one another. The relationship between Jessie and Asher is precious and she emotionally bonds with the youngster to Elliot’s delight. This book was an entertaining read, but the story had a few disconnects for me. Elliott states numerous times that Asher is the most important thing in his life, yet he hires a nanny without doing any kind of check on who she is. There are some great sex scenes in the book – well written, but I would like to have seen some additional scenes where the emotional relationship between Elliott and Jessie was explored a little more deeply. I felt I was missing a few chapters that would have helped better explain Jessie’s background with her parents and that showed Elliot and Jessie together (not in bed) without the other characters around to make for a stronger emotional ending as they found their happily ever after.
Slow Ride is the second book in the South Florida Riders series from Breezie Bennett, and I have to say I loved it even more than the first book. Seriously, sexy single dad football player who will do anything for his son?!?! I'm all in!!!
I wanted Elliot's story from the moment we met him in Wild Ride. I love he always puts his son Asher at the top of his priority list. Elliot is super protective of his son and needs just the right person to be a live in nanny after his former one moves away to be closer to her own grandchildren. As Asher is super shy and doesn't warm up to strangers very quickly, Elliot was shocked at how fast he connected with Jessica Randall when they pull over to help her with a flat tire, and offers her a job as his son's nanny on the spot.
Jessica is such a strong, independent, and loving woman. She has been on her own since she was 16, with the exception of Maria, who took her in, and is the only person who knows about Jessica's past. Jessica and Maria have become their own little family, and Jessica will do anything to help take care of Maria, even become a nanny so she can afford all the medical bills.
I had mad love for Jessica and how she seemed to just get Asher pretty much from the moment they met. Yes there was major chemistry between Jessica and Elliot, but as she was hired to take care of Asher, their time together was so sweet. Asher was such an important part of this story, and I absolutely fell in love with this little boy right along with Jessica.
Elliot and Jessica had a mutual attraction from the very beginning, and I loved they took their time before acting on their attraction. I won't lie, I had to laugh out loud at a couple of the times they were interrupted along the way, as it is was so spot on with a young child and just life in general. I love them together so very much. Their chemistry was off the charts hot and yet there were so many tender moments along the way as well. All the happy sighs from me.
Slow Ride was a fun, sexy, and emotional read. I highly recommend Slow Ride to everyone! While this is only the second book from Breezie Bennett, she is the read deal and absolutely is one of my auto-buy authors.
Rating: 5 Stars (A) Review copy provided by publisher
Breezie Bennett has once again proved that she is an AMAZING storyteller! I had the privilege of reading an ARC of Slow Ride by Breezie Bennett for an honest review. I can honestly say that Slow Ride is an extremely sexy and sentimental rom-com. I could not put it down, it was a true page turner, and I loved every minute of it. Slow Ride is the second book in the South Florida Riders series. I love the series, the characters, and the setting! It was an outstanding story. Slow Ride is the story of Elliott Danes, running back for the South Florida Riders and single parent of Asher, his five year-old son and Jessica Randall, a waitress who is hiding her past. I love Elliott! He is a wonderful single dad, he always puts Asher's needs and welfare before his own needs and desires. Elliott does not date much, because he does not want random women parading around Asher. Elliott and Jessica meet accidentally on the side of the road, where Jessica's car has a flat tire. Elliott and Asher get out of the car so that Elliott can help Jessica change her tire, but Jessie does not need his help. Jessie does enlist the help of Asher, and Elliott is surprised how his normally shy show relates to Jessie. Elliott is immediately smitten with Jessie and her sarcastic mouth. Elliott surprisingly offers Jessie the job as Asher's nanny since his last nanny has retired and the football season is about to start. Jessie does not immediately accept the job. After she eventually accepts the job, she and Asher get along wonderfully, I love the interaction between the two of them. Jessie has lied to Elliot about an important aspect of her life, as she and Elliott become romantically involved, Jessie knows that she needs to tell him the truth, at the risk of losing her job and her lover. With a plot twist you knew was coming, Elliott discovers her lie and asks Jessie to leave without giving her a chance to explain the circumstances. Once again this proves to Jessie, that all love is conditional. From the mouths of babes, Elliott realizes the error in his ways with some great advice from Asher. Love the happily ever that Elliott and Jessie share. Slow Ride is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments.
I never knew how sexy the single-dad troupe could be. Elliott Danes is one hot, sexy, swoon-worthy dad and NFL running back in Breezie Bennett’s second novel, Slow Ride. Elliott has a 5yr old son, Asher. Asher is the sweetest and shyest little man. By chance Elliott and Asher meet Jessica while she is having car trouble. Amazingly, Jessica makes a connection with Asher that no one else has. Elliott recognizes that he must capitalize on that connection, so he hires Jessica to be Asher’s nanny. The connection between Jessica and Asher is super sweet. Asher and Trash(his rescue dog) just completely ran away with my heart. Jessica keeps some important information from Elliott. Knowing she is on borrowed time, will Jessica ever tell Elliott the truth? Will Elliott and Jessica be able to resist their insane attraction to each other or will Jessica’s lies be a deal breaker? This story is amazingly sweet, HOT between the sheets, with super characters who will leave you laughing, fanning your face, and just maybe a few tears. You don’t have to love football to enjoy this awesome story of a single-dad with a heart-of-gold. Will Elliott finally be able to give his son the one-thing he wants most, a family? Pro-athetes….hot stuff!! Highly recommend this Wild Ride by Breezie Bennett. 5 stars*****
Elliot Danes is a football player with the South Florida Riders and also is the single dad of a 5-year-old little boy. Trying to balance his son and his job leaves Elliot a bit stressed. When Asher’s nanny leaves to go be with her grandchildren Elliot desperately tries to find a new nanny that would be perfect for his very shy little son. After meeting Jessica Randall, Elliot thinks he has found the right person for the job.
I’m a sucker for a single dad with a sweet little boy and this one didn’t disappoint. Slow Ride is the second in this series by a new author whose mother’s books I’ve read for years and have thoroughly loved. After reading Wild Ride and now Slow Ride I do believe this young author has this writing thing down pat. She has done a great job with book two as the plot is strong, and the author has written a hero and heroine who are well balanced; there is lot of heat, laughter and fun throughout this entire story. The secondary characters of Elliot’s teammates, Chase and Leo, and Maria, Jessica’s elderly roommate are such hoot and add such fun to the story. I loved going on the journey with Elliot and Jessica as they get their HEA. I look forward to book three in this series!
Slow Ride is book 2 in the series South Florida Riders by new up and coming author Breezie Bennett and boy does she know how you draw you in from the first page...until the last!
Elliot Danes, NFL running back, millionaire, single dad of a five year old, needs a nanny for his son before football season starts, when he stops to help a lady with a flat tire his son Asher seems to connect with her. This just doesn’t happen with Asher so he offers her the job of being his son’s nanny..
Jessica Randall has known the life of wealth and all it entails but she left that life behind and now leads a much simpler life. When this hot, sexy man stops to help her change her flat tire sparks fly...not only with the dad but his son too. When he offers her a job as his son’s nanny she refuses but then reconsiders for personal reasons...but she is determined to just be the nanny, keep her secrets and stay out of his bed...hopefully...
What happens next will keep you turning the pages, waiting for the shoe to drop on the secrets, friends become lovers and to see if love really does conquer all or is it conditional??
Elliot Danes is a single dad who plays football for the South Florida Riders and is looking for a nanny for his son Asher before the start of the season. Only problem Asher is very shy and doesn’t take well too strangers but when he spots Jessica Randall on the side of the road changing a flat tire Elliot stops to help to teach Asher life lesson. But Elliot is the one who soon learns that Jessica will teach them both about love!
Slow Ride is such an enjoyable read that I couldn’t put it down! With this being the second book of The South Rider series I’m definitely looking forward to more.
I was blessed with an advanced copy for my honest review.
Breezie Bennett is a phenomenal new author!! She will be at the top of the best seller list with this new series!!! Do yourself a favor and check her out!! You will not be disappointed!!
Who doesn’t love a sexy, sweet NFL player that is an amazing single father? Seriously? Who? Because let me tell you this girl is a complete sucker for that so it ain’t me. Breezie Bennett brings allllllll the swoon with Slow Ride! Heat, sweet, humor and heartfelt emotion all packed into one adorable story that you can’t help but fall in love with. Elliot is the most swoon worthy single dad ever. The guy takes sweet to a whole new level with how much he loves his son, then goes and cranks that up even further with how perfect he is for Jessica. I was completely head over heels for him in approximately two seconds!
This is the second in Ms. Bennett’s South Florida Riders series. However, it completely stands alone.
Elliot Danes is the most popular Rider. He is “the dad”, a single parent, and everyone just loves how devoted he is to his 5-year-old son. The running back is important to the Rider’s game, but he is adamant that his son comes before his career. Then his nanny, an older woman, plans to quit and go back home to be with family. He needs a nanny immediately. The problem is that Asher is painfully shy and won’t interact with any of the prospective nannies he brings in.
Then they run into Jessica changing a tire on the side of the road. She talks to Asher and he talks back. Elliot immediately wants to hire her. It has to be better than a waitressing job, right?
Unfortunately Jessica grew up rich and rejected that lifestyle when her parents rejected her. However, she needs the money so she decides to try. She falls in love with Asher. Asher and Trash are so cute! Asher does so well with her encouragement.
The characters seem real, their motivations are clear, and Ms. Bennett obviously understands children as well as adult behavior. This is a fun book! I recommend it.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.
Breezie Bennett is an exciting new author who has written the second book in her South Florida Riders Series, “Slow Ride.” We met Elliott in her debut novel and I immediately had a soft spot for the hunky, single father and I wondered what lucky woman would catch his eye and warm his heart. Elliott is such a great father and his son is his pride and joy. I love how Elliott uses “life lessons” to teach Asher about the world because it shows how compassionate and down to earth he is. He doesn’t let fame and fortune cloud his judgement.
“Slow Ride” is a sweet and romantic story about finding the one person who will make your family complete. Who knew that stopping to help someone in distress would change your life forever? Elliott was immediately attracted to Jessica, and so was his painfully shy son, Asher. He was amazed how quickly her beautiful smile and soft voice, made his son open up to her. She radiated kindness and love towards Asher, and he was in awe of her and not afraid. Elliott knew when he saw the smile on his son’s face that Jessica was the answer to his prayers. She was gentle and very nurturing, and he knew without a doubt, that he needed her in their lives.
New author Breezie Bennett has hit her stride with her new book “Slow Ride.” I was hooked by the end of chapter one and was enthralled with the story from there on. Slow Ride is about a professional football player, Elliot, who has a young son he is raising alone. In need of a nanny, he meets Jessica who clicks with his young son, Asher. Jessica has a way about her that brings out the shy Asher that no one else can do, so she is hired. But Jessica has a secret and every time she wants to tell Elliot about her past, something gets in the way. I really liked this book a lot. Breezie has a way of making us care deeply for her characters. I definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I liked but not loved. The dad was speeding and child called him on it. Lol
Elliot was a good dad otherwise but there was insta-love...he really didn't know her. Then he promised not to fire her and well, the communication was poor. Still not sure about the "hell" she left in Newport??
All other elements...like setting and bits of football... adequate.
Slow Ride, the second book in Breezie Bennett's outstanding new South Florida Riders series, did NOT disappoint. Faaar from it. In fact, I probably buzzed through it even faster than Wild Ride and was just thinking to myself the whole time: My god, she did it AGAIN. Again!! (You go, Breezie! I'm your biggest new fan 💕)
Slow Ride features a new cast of main characters (with cameos from the ones we love from before), following the blooming and unexpected romance of Jessica Randall, a low-wage waitress, and Elliot Danes, an NFL running back desperately looking for a nanny for his painfully shy son Asher. And it's the cutest thing ever: from the start at the side of the road where their two worlds collide, all the way through the heartwarming adventure that follows.
Breezie writes about people with such natural ease and familiarity, and it's such a fun journey through the pages, learning about the characters that you grow to care SO.MUCH.ABOUT. during the ride. I've never encountered a writer before who so skillfully manages to make me giggle like a fool on one page and then make my heart ache on the next - without any contrivance. It's all genuine, all due to her really special way of making characters that feel as real as your own friends.
All in all, if you want to be delighted by a strong & brilliant (and yet totally tender and hilarious) narrative, this is the book for you.
Jessica is my idol (in a different way than Frankie was before, in the previous book) - she's compassionate as hell, yet also so fun and sarcastic and always know the right thing to say - and do, for the people she deeply cares about. Elliot is THE IDEAL MAN AND FATHER and reading about him is like reading about 100% of your guy dreams come true. Just trust me on this one. And some of the other characters who light up the story: Asher Danes, the sweetest boy who’s like a sparkling miniature version of his dad, and who has to overcome so much of his own fear during the book. Trash, the adorable ratty pup who brought the family together in the best of all ways. Maria, the sassy Cuban queen of my heart. Jensen, the insentient stuffed animal otter (who nevertheless helps save the day in the end!)
Breezie writes the sweetest quirks into her characters that snag right into your soul and linger there forever. Me? – I'm utterly happy to keep faithfully reading EVERYTHING she puts out, because I'm dazzled by this new force in the romance industry and the way she's infusing the genre with her special, inimitable touch.
Worried that Slow Ride might be too "sporty" as a romance if you don't normally read in the sports romance genre? No worries. The team and Elliot's profession function mainly as a backdrop for the larger plot. What really matters here is a damn good story: sizzling with hot chemistry (I die for the pool scene), diverse characters you can reach out and FEEL and experience, and a journey that’s as warm as a really, really good hug.
Slow Ride is the second installment in the South Florida Riders Series written by Breezie Bennett, a new author who writes in the same manner as that of an experienced writer.
Elliott Danes is an NFL running back for the South Florida Riders. He is also a single dad of a five-year-old boy, Asher. Asher is a painfully shy yet charming little boy. Asher is always Elliott’s top priority, fighting desperately to get his son to break out of his shell.
Elliott and Asher happen to meet Jessica when to stop to help her with a flat tire. Elliott observes that Asher is willing to communicate with Jessica despite his shyness. Because of this, Elliott decides to hire Jessica as a new nanny for Asher.
The relationship between Jessica and Asher is a welcome and fun secondary plot. Asher and Trash, his rescue puppy, steal the show with their antics. It was a joy to read about Jessica’s efforts taken to give Asher the confidence he needs to be a brave boy. Ms. Bennett obviously understands children as well as adult behavior.
Slow Ride was a fun, sexy, and emotional read. I highly recommend Slow Ride to everyone. I also predict that Slow Ride will soon become a fan favorite. I can’t wait read the next book written by Ms. Bennett.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Elliott has been on the Nanny search for his son Asher. Sweet, shy Asher who is the poster boy for shy kids. It's the first day of practice and he's running late. Asher needs to get to school and he needs to get to the facility with the rest of the Riders. Asher spots her before Elliot does. A golden haired goddess on the side of the rode changing her tire. Elliot, always the remodel to his son says this is a teachable moment, no matter if they are late. So he stops to help. Jessica Randall can't believe Elliot Danes is helping her, Elliot Danes can't believe his son just goes to this woman on his own! He needs her, she has to be his new Nanny. There, on the side of the rode, he propositions her and the offer comes at a time that she definitely needs it. Asher has a new Nanny, Jessica has a new job, and both Jess and Elliott can't keep their eyes or their hands to themselves. Plus Jess has a secret that only the woman she calls Mami knows, a 75 year old Cuban who she loves dearly and has Bee encouraging her to tell Elliott her real truth. Will their budding relationship survive a lie?
This was a great second book in the South Florida Riders series. I really enjoyed Elliot, Jessica, Maria and of course how could you not fall in love with Asher and Trash. The story was great with the developing relationship with not only Elliot and Jessica but Jessica and Asher as well. I liked how Jessica helped Asher gain more confidence and come out of his shell. I have to say I wasn’t a fan when Jessica’s parents made their appearance, but I do think in the end that it’s time they all put the past where it belongs and start anew. This was a really good story and I enjoyed not only the talent show and all the moments in between, but the way this book ended was perfect. My favorite line from this book was, ‘Enjoy every second with all your awesome families and keep love as a priority in your life, no matter what’. Can’t wait to read what Breezie Bennett has for us next.
*I received an ARC from Breezie Bennett for my honest review*. This is the second book in the Wild Ride series featuring single Dad Elliot & his adorable son Asher. Elliot needs a new nanny & hires Jessica. Elliot & Jessica have instant chemistry from the beginning & try to fight their attraction. You will fall in love with all three of them & rescue dog Trash too! This book is an entertaining, funny, quick enjoyable read with all the feels. I loved the story, the characters including the supporting characters including Leo from the first book. I highly recommend this book & Leo’s book, you won’t be disappointed!! 💙📚💙
I have a new favorite book with Slow Ride! Seriously, who doesn't love a single dad romance! Elliot's relationship with little Asher was so adorable. Jessie didn't stand a chance with the duo. Jessie and Elliot together were on fire! I loved her first book in the series and had high hopes for this second book. Breezie Bennett has just shown us that she isn't a one hit wonder and will be around for a very long time. I look forward to seeing where her writing takes us. I totally recommend her as a new and upcoming author.
I am liking how the single guys on the team are finding their HEA even if they don't know they are looking for something permanent. Elliot is all about his son and football. No time for anything else. In a chance meeting, he meets Jessica. When his overly shy son takes an instant liking to Jessica, he knows she has to be Asher's new nanny. Even if he is attracted to her, Asher comes first. As they try not to act on the attraction, they become closer. But, Jessica has a secret that could tear them apart.
This is the second novel by newcomer Breezie Bennett. Much like her debut novel this is an enjoyable sexy read with relatable and endearing characters. I loved the father-son relationship where Elliot does his best to set a good example for his son. Inspirational. Jessica’s riches to rags story was reminiscent of the Gilmore Girls storyline. I would have liked a bit more insight of her relationship with her parents. That part was left unresolved for me. I am looking forward to future works from this author.
