When night falls upon Ditchfield Juvenile Detention Facility in the Maryland foothills, whatever the watch tower lights don’t touch is taken by the shadows. Inside are young men the state calls lost causes and future convicts. The violent. The mentally ill. The forgotten.

Gordon Pope hates Ditchfield. Rumors have swirled about the place for years. Whispers of beatings. Mental abuse. Even experiments. Every patient he’s had that ended up there took a chunk of his heart with them.

One of those patients is a young man named Charlie Cunningham. He knows all too well that the rumors are true. That’s why Charlie has a plan. By the time the crooked guards do nighttime rounds, he’ll be long gone.

Charlie has unfinished business with the dark side of Baltimore. And with Gordon Pope. He made a promise to his sister. One he intends to keep, no matter what.

The Baltimore City Police are about to go on high alert. And when they do, Detective Dana Frisco and Marty Cicero are all that stands between Gordon Pope and the oncoming storm.

Count on Griffith to Rip His Stories From the Headlines

Whenever I get bogged down in research and need to take a quick break, I grab one of B.B. Griffith’s always thrilling-never-a-dull-moment rides. While many books can be said to be ‘unputdownable,’ Griffith’s books truly ARE hard to put down.

This particular book is the 3rd in a series of books which follows child psychiatrist, Gordon Pope through a continually twisting morass through the legal system in an attempt to save the lives of several young people who have become sacrificial lambs to the child protective system.

Griffith addresses a particularly heinous and unfortunately all too prevalent subject in our society and legal system today. Would that it were as ‘easy’ to save our young ones from these evils as Gordon Pope and company have done.

Not an easy subject to read, but, as usual, a very well-written book.

What a wild ride! Dark and gritty mixed with hopeful and idealistic. The good guy characters were endearing, and the reader couldn't help but root for them against the impossible odds they faced. I especially liked Charlie, who the author painted as someone who would have been an unblemished hero if circumstances hadn't set him up for a life that offered him no good options. Despite the evidence of a happily-ever-after for the Gordon Pope main character, I am hoping that there will be more in this series.

Better and better

I loved the first two books and this one wraps it all up brilliantly. I’ve been up since 4am so I could finish the book before going to work.
I won’t get into the plot and characters etc. Just read it and judge for yourself. Awesome stuff!

Gordon Pope's life and career seem to finally getting back to where once they had been; but dark places still hold secrets Gordon needs to lay to rest before he truly be at peace. Once more, Gordon finds himself fighting to save those that he cares about; a young man in need of protecting from the darkness that terrifies him and a city that would rather keep hold of its secrets at any cost. A wonderful and haunting journey, highly recommended.

Forgiven

A definite spinetingler! Dr. Gordon Pope has a new client, one who reaches out to him through the crimes he commits. Charlie Cunningham has it out for the people who have wronged him in life, but with Dr. Pope, Charlie doesn't want revenge, he wants help from Dr. Pope to find his lost sister. The actions that take place in this thriller demands the reader's full attention. Another "on-the-edge-of-your-seat story by this talented author!

Touching yarn filled with grit and unexpected connections

Another excellent novel my BB Griffith, bringing a satisfying close to the Pope series. Loved the growth of the protagonist, and the social empathy of the story—so many of our kids deserve so much more than our broken mental health and justice system currently provides. Good on the author for placing needed light on these shameful shadows.

Evil men do evil things!

Gordon Pope is an unlikely hero! And in this book, he’s joined by a repentant lawyer and an escapee from a correctional facility in addition to cops Dana and Marty. Will this unlikely “crew” be able to rescue trafficked girls and uncover the corruption in the police department and correctional facility?

Loved Reading this Series

Loved everything about the three books in this series. Of course, all of the books I've read by the author are good. Maybe someday there will be a book 4 about Dr. Gordon Pope and friends, I hope so.

Very excellent series.

I read the whole series in 4 days. I like the way Me. Griffith writes. His characters have faults, as we all do but we're still able to rise up and do the unimaginable GOOD that good people CAN do. Kudos Mr. Griffith, well done!

Twists and Turns

I found it fascinating that the author found ways to weave his story and tie everything together.
Unfortunately, although thus is fiction, there are people and places in this world still doing child trafficking.

If only it was so easy to get the bad guys and right the wrongs. Charlie Cunningham escapes from a terrible juvenile detention facility to rescue his sister. It takes Gordon, Dana, Marty, and a retired attorney to save the day. Exciting and most of the bad guys go down.
