After her boss fires her on unfounded grounds, twenty-nine-year-old Ashton Price leaves Denver for Cranberry Cove, Washington. She’s inherited her aunt’s B&B and is determined to carry on her legacy. Upon preparing for guests, she learns of a century-old tale of treasure within the inn. Many have searched for the illusive gems but to no avail. She discovers a man working on the inn’s grounds, but is he the gardener Gina Price hired? Perhaps he’s searching for the hidden treasure.
James Atwood, corporate executive, works in the Atwood’s thriving cranberry business. Tragedy strikes, and he’s numb and riddled with guilt. Befriended by Gina Price, he finds solace working evening and weekends in the fresh earth, fescue grass, and aromatic blossoms of the inn’s gardens, helping to divert his mind from his dishonest cousin Robert, bent on destroying the Atwood business. He continues tending the grounds after Gina passes, and the new owner believes he’s a gardener. After she calls late one night upon hearing a prowler, James races to her rescue and discovers his feelings are more than protective.
Ashton’s first guests, the Claxton’s, appear out of nowhere saying they’ve had reservations for a year though she finds no record of a deposit. She chalks the failure up to faulty accounting before she arrived. When an elusive intruder continues to make frightening midnight visits, Ashton fears for her own safety and that of the Claxtons. But then, their odd comings and goings cause Ashton to wonder. Are they really vacationing visitors from California, or do they have other motives for staying at the inn?
Can two people allow the majestic northwest and fragrant coastal air heal their wounded hearts? Will they discover the secret of The Inn at Cranberry Cove?
I began writing in 2010 while sailing down the freeway in our RV. I love to place my characters in unlikely situations where escape is questionable, yet freedom is possible through God's power and His Word. I'm a retired teacher turned author and live with my husband in beautiful Alabama.
What a great mystery. The author kept me guessing through the whole book. I really liked the characters. James drowned his grief in work. Ashton was determined to keep her aunt’s dream going. They both realized they were missing something when they had been away from church for a while and decided to return. Mayor Fernsby and Mrs. Babbage were also great characters. I loved the way this book turned out and would recommend it. I was given a Kindle copy of this book by the author and was under no obligation to write a positive review.
A mystery, hidden gems, a family business that has family problems & God providing comfort & care to those who ask. I enjoyed this book by June Foster, the suspense made me keep reading, and hoping for a book 2 at Cranberry Cove!
An interesting storyline with okay characters and a positive message of forgiveness, justice and hope.
One thing that would have made this book better is another good edit before publication. Some misused words, as well as grammatical and punctuation errors.
Author June Foster writes great stories. With decisions needing to be made after the death of a family member, Ashton must sort through emotions, along with the inn she must now care for. A mystery, a friend and learning to lean on God bring Ashton to a new chapter of her life. Great story.
I have read a handful of June Foster's books, and enjoyed each one. This is her second foray into Christian suspense, and it was a great foray.
The Inn At Cranberry Cove isn't a fast paced nail biting suspense novel with bad guys chasing the hero and heroine, but that doesn't mean it is boring or not suspenseful. There is a mystery, rumors of a hidden treasure, and bad guys. It just leans more toward what is called a cozy mystery...which are awesome also.
I enjoyed the story, and read it in one sitting. The hero and heroine of the story were very likable characters, with James' recent personal tragedy making him all the more endearing to readers. There were also a couple of characters who weren't likable, but then they were the bad guys of the story.
The plot was a great one, and the setting of an old inn made for a terrific setting for the story. The inn and town descriptions made me want to visit what I assume is a fictional town.
I appreciate authors who don't shy away from Christian content, and Foster never does. Both Ashton and James had stopped going to church for their own reasons, and they slowly worked their way through that issue. James had guilt from his actions of 2 months ago, and had to realize that God forgave him and he needed to forgive himself.
This was a romantic suspense novel, so of course there was a romantic angle, and yes, I even enjoyed that.
The Inn At Cranberry Cove was a great read, and is number 1 in a series, and it left me looking forward to reading more in this series.
I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions in this review are my own.
If you are a reader who loves romance, mystery, family, forgiveness, faith and some interesting twists and turns along the way then this is a highly recommended book for you! Ashton Price inherits The Inn at Cranberry Cove from her sweet Aunt Gina who passed away. There is a legend that valuable gems are hidden on the property. James Atwood is employed as the part time gardener at the Inn. He finds it to be a place of peace and solace. The Pacific Cranberry Company is owned by the Atwood family where he works full time. At the company James always finds himself dealing with his difficult cousin Robert. Mrs. Babbage and Mayor Fernsby were my favorite secondary characters. They were both kind and caring in their own special way. The book had some important truths and a satisfying ending that readers will enjoy.
Gina left her inn to her niece when she died. People believed some precious gems were hidden in the place. Many people had tried to find it, even breaking into the inn. After Ashton started living there she started hearing sounds and evidence that someone had broken into her home. The caretaker of the gardens was James and they became friends. James was secretive about where he worked full time and about his life. You've got to read to learn if the gems were really in the inn or not and who was causing so much trouble.
I won this book from the author. This is a delightful story to take our minds off of current happenings and go to the Pacific Northwest to the cozy little town of Cranberry Cove. A cozy little town with a lot of crime all of a sudden. Read to find out why and whodunit. Get to the end and find out there’s a book two coming in May 2021!
I highly commend this author for not using the standard “women gets angry at man over a misunderstanding” plot line. I was expecting that to happen and was prepared to yet again skip a large part of the book. This creative author did not use that plot line and therefore I quite enjoyed this book. I will look for more of her books.
This a refreshing novel without violence, sex or politics. I think the storyline was well developed and characters were perfect. My only concern was the story moved a little slow. The book is a good read.
Ashton inherits the Inn at Cranberry Cove when her aunt dies. Through many mysteries, and getting the Inn ready to reopen Ashton finds her faith in God renewed, and more about her Aunt Gina, and love. Oh did I mention she solves an old tale regarding jewels.
The mysteries of the hidden precious stones, the lost love letters and who kept terrorizing the Inn at Cranberry Cove is a very good read. Of course, the love story between Ashton and James is the highlight of the blessed love and forgiveness of our Lord.
I appreciated the fact that this is a clean Christian fiction audiobook. The story was mediocre but using an AI narrator didn't do it any favors. I probably won't read/listen to anything more from this author, especially if it's AI narrated.
I chose the 5 star rating because it was everything I wanted in a book! I recommend this to everyone that loves a good Christian based book with a little mystery!
After being fired from her job, Aston Price decided to go to the Cranberry Cove Inn located in Washington where she had inherited a Bed and Breakfast from her Grandmother.
This book takes us down the path of a young woman as she builds her life in a new location, with new friends and a few quests that ends up at her Bed and Breakfast. The story includes a tour through the Bed and Breakfast hunting for hidden treasures in the house. There are twists and turns with mysteries throughout, plus love and friendship and more. I recommend this book to everyone. It is a fast, easy to read, a story that I enjoyed reading.
